My niece got a new HP laptop..and I installed Imgeburn.
Turns out the author integrated Opencandy for few quint..
It was a mess..keep having windows pop up to install crapwares.
do not use Imageburn
-
I've been using ImgBurn for years now with no ill effects whatsoever.
Where have you downloaded it from? -
I can't recall where the last place I've downloaded ImgBurn, but I think some sites will bundle it with malware crap (I got a search page malware once).

I've known this for a long time. I never come near this crapware

ImgBurn is actually decent software. It's just that versions with malware are crap (for obvious reasons).

Trust no other source than software maker itself.S.Prime, killkenny1, Jarhead and 1 other person like this. -
It is from Maker's site.
after spending hours fixing the craps...
I went to their forum..maker himself indicated it was bundled in installer.....by maker... -
There's nothing wrong with ImgBurn itself, and it does not come with a "virus". But, yes, the installer will load various pieces of crapware for you if you don't read the instruction screens, that is. If you had ever actually looked at those, you would have seen that you can opt out of any and all of the crap.

^^^Yep. The software that is optional is most likely what helps to finance the software one wishes to install. Even Adobe has that little option for antivirus software when downloading their Flash player. As Pirx suggests it is best to pay attention to each step of the install and refrain from blindly clicking through 'Install' or 'Install Now.'

Install Unchecky if you afraid to miss crapware checkboxes. I WILL NEVER COME CLOSE TO IMGBURN SINCE NOW.

there is no check box...however, the option to opt is hidden in custom install page. Most decent software will have the opt out option in open...
I guess I will go through every page...from now on.. -
If by any chance you get infected with crapware again, I would recommend using Revo uninstaller w/ safe mode to remove them.

I used Malwarebyte...

Sounds like a scamware version of Malwarebytes. :laugh:James D likes this.

That happened to me some time ago, bloatware, adware, ect downloading with imgburn, took some time to get rid of it, I use windows 8.1 to burn iso to cd/dvd, there are other stand alones that are just as good or even better, research before downloading. CNET is better than taking a chance at downloading from mystery sites, they do screen more or less downloads before they list them by category, ect.

Yes.
I just had to install ImgBurn on a pc last week and the installer did not have any checkboxes to opt out of the crapware. After installing I had to uninstall the two "bonus" programs, wipe the registry, and run Malwarebytes just in case. All is well now. -
take your time when installing stuff, don't rush like you may usually do cos you get this stupid crap installed.

ImgBurn is my favorite free burning software it just works so well and has all the features I need.
There was a period of time I think when they first introduced the malware (harshly named so I think its just a pup.advertisment not something destructive) that they had a version that you could not uncheck the install of the 3rd party junk.
They got a lot of heat for it and rectified it, now you can not install it as long as you follow the installer carefully.
I personally as an IT person work on a lot of computers so I use the older portable version. It's under 2MB in size, has no malware, and does not even have to install so I just can keep it on a flash drive or share. -
Just reinstalled imgburn, replacing a version that came on the laptop. My virus scanner detected OpenCandy durring installation and immediately my computer began acting weird, locking up when opening files and folders and desktop crashing occasionally. I disabled the virus software and installed anyway, unchecking the option to install the extra adware. Computer continued to act weird after install. After install I ran a full scan and it detected opencandy even though i marked it to not install. As soon as the scan quarantined OpenCandy and the imgburn setup exe my computer began behaving normally.
Somehow the installer is getting the program on your computer one way or another. The scan hasn't actually detected anything wrong with the imgburn program, just the setup and the related opencandy software.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

Jusy stay away from virusware. If a developers ethics allows him to infect people's computers I wouldn't trust installing any thing from himajkula66 likes this.
Beware of Imgburn with virus inside
