I recently clicked on a website I frequent that got hacked. Can the hacked page cause infection if scripts is allowed to run? Did NoScripts save the day?

Javascript CAN install malware. But nowadays you have to click on confirmation boxes for that to happen. So if you didn't see a box that said "Click OK to win 1 MILLION dollars" then you are ok.

With NoScirpt I didn't see (or hear) anything but others have said it wanted to download something. Real audio pluin? Some heard a song..

Its a song probably.. Imagine the internet if people could just place stuff on a website, which would thne just automatically spread into your pc as you visited that site.. Kinda obvious that it doesnt work like that (anymore?) if you ask me.
-
It use to work like that, thanks to vulnerabilities of ActiveX and JavaScript.
Downloading Audio Codecs from unknown sources will also potentially violate your virgin system.
