So I've decided to change my current setup (below) again.
Current Setup:
Avira AntiVir 8
SUPERAntispyware
Comodo Firewall Pro with Defense+ off
Threatfire
Which of these should I get?
Future Setup #1:
Avira AntiVir 8
Windows Defender (Secondary Scanner with Active Protection and HIPS)
SUPERAntispyware (Primary Scanner, but off until needed)
Comodo Firewall Pro with Defense+ off
Future Setup #2
Avast 4.8
SUPERAntispyware (Primary Scanner, but off until needed)
Comodo Firewall Pro with Defense+ off
Future Setup #3
Kaspersky Internet Security
Which setup (Current, Future #1 or Future #2) provides the most protection?
Which setup uses the least resources?
Which setup is the best overall?
Thanks,
Leon

Good thread, Leon. I'm on the same boat, so I'm curious about what people have to say about this.
-
wow nearly 4 third-party programs just for security. Isnt that abit overkill?
or am i naive and being hacked as we speak?
right now im only using
-AVG8
-Spybot S&D
-Windows Defender/Firewall
It hasnt failed me so far.. well as far as i know... not that i have much to protect anyway
Arkit3kt: Have you tried AVG8 without the linkscanner and email scanner? I removed both and its as good as AVG 7.5 -
I want to, but I want to disable the update manager as well.
I'm actually on the brink of just using Avira Antivir 8 and SUPERantispyware as on-demand scanners. I don't even think I'm going to use any active protection or real-time scanners. Maybe Windows Defender, but maybe not. After a couple years with it, it hasn't done anything for me. Come to think of it, it's been about four years and none of my security programs have done anything for me. They're just bums residing in my computer and not paying rent!
-
Lol... Avira just caught 2 viruses for me yesterday.
-
I say that you should stick with your current setup as it is, it's the best one i can think of.
-
Well, will turning off SUPERantispyware while not scanning help resources?
It doesn't have Active Protection. -
It should, that would be perfectly fine.
-
I agree with Calvin (assuming you've had good luck with your set up), with one exception: I'd add a second antispyware app, probably a-squared.
-
Avira 8 still has lots of false positives. It caught the exe file of the jellybean keyfinder as a trojan.
-
maybe it is a trojan
-
I dont think one program qualifies saying Avira has a lot of false positives. And given the behavior of Jellybean Keyfinder, Im not surprised it was classified as a trojan
-
I too think so. But what was annoying avira won't stop me notifying even I ignore the warning.
-
Well, if it is a trojan, why are you ignoring it?
-
Any program that allows you to change your entire registry hive (keys & subkeys) with a version/set of another machine/installation is bound to trigger any decent AV program.
By ignoring, do you mean you just ignored the warning or did you instruct Avira to 'ignore' Jellybean' and this didn't work out? -
No it's not a real trojan.
-
I agree with you. I just ignored the warning. I could only stop the warning after I deleted the temp exe file for that program. I used to have AVG 7.5 before and didn't get those warnings.
Is the jellybean jeyfinder program a real trojan? I wanted to extract the OEM product key in my laptop. -
No, the program is not a trojan. Because of its capability, it's bound to cause false positives though.
Just make sure to download the program only from reputable sites. -
jellybeans program code is invasive to the system thus triggering a false positive
OR
jellybean is really stealing your serial key =)
