Does anyone else notice that Comodo Firewall is causing a very slow shutdown? I have pinpointed this program because I was having fast shutdown speeds until I installed it and then I was getting slow shutdowns.
Is there a way to improve this?
-
I haven't noticed a slow shutdown with it installed but then again, I've had it for a very long time so i guess i wouldn't remember.
-
I have Comodo FW and my pc is off within 10 seconds. Maybe it's messing with your av. I know when I had Kaspersky and Comodo, it slowed my pc to a crawl.
-
Shoot...I had slow boot ups...slower than Norton. Uninstalled it.
-
Well im using Comodo Firewal and Avira. Im going to uninstall Comodo to confirm my theory
-
I'm using Comodo and NOD32 here, two top of the line light weight security programs. It might be program incompatibility as a previous poster said, so maybe uninstalling Avira Antivir would be a better test.
-
Yup it was my Comodo. Went from 90+ second shutdowns to less than 15 seconds.
One problem is, after I uninstalled it (using the Uninstall Icon) it still shows up on my firewall list. I turned back Windows Firewall on and it is showing that both Comodo and Windows Firewall are both running at the same time. I thought I deleted Comodo, why is it still showing? I ran CCcleaner as well and rebooted, 2 times. -
Try the regristry cleaner in ccleaner
-
Just tried it then rebooted and still shows Comodo is being run along with Windows Firewall.
-
That is a very slow shutdown, i suggest you try one of the other free firewalls in that case. There is a nice list by Baserk in this sub-forum.
-
Thanks I will. There seem to be other similar cases such as mine when Comodo has decreased shutdown performance. But some people are not experiencing this. I noticed the same slow shutdown before i reformated my laptop, at the time I did not know what was causing the slow shutdown. I guess now I do.
Anyways, do you know how to remove the entry that still shows Comodo as a firewall being used? -
I don't remember how to do it. Though I'm sure another forum member will be able to guide you at this time.
-
Before starting, make SURE you actually uninstalled the previous firewall just in case. Also, if your computer/laptop blows up or something I take no responsibility. This is what I did to fix the problem and it worked for me. I don't see why it wouldn't work for another person, but I wanted to add a disclaimer all the same. Plus, I've never been able to so I wanted to add one Hopefully this fix works for you as well. PM me with the results.
1. Open "Control Panel"
2. Select "Performance and Maintenance" (if you see Admin tools, just click on that)
3. Select: "Administrative Tools"
4. Double-click "Services"
5. Locate: "Windows Management Instrumentation", right click on it and select "Stop"
6. Go to the "wbem" folder (C:\Windows\system32\wbem)
7. Locate the "Repository" folder and delete it (DELETE ONLY THE REPOSITORY FOLDER!!)
8. Repeat steps 1 - 5 but this time right click on "Windows Management Instrumentation" and select "Start". This will recreate the "Repository" folder.
9. Reboot your computer
If you have XP, try out online armor. -
Hey thanks, can you tell me what exactly by doing this will do?
-
I tried it for a while and it did slow boot times as well as shut down. It also was aggravating training it. I finally removed it.
-
Could you tell me how you removed it? I clicked the uninstall button but it is still showing that I am using COMODO as a firewall and running along with Windows Firewall
-
Basically windows security center stores info like "firewall x is installed on here". Sometimes when uninstalling a firewall, the firewall doesn't remove its message for windows security center. Hence, the message sits there telling windows security center the firewall is up and running when it's not there. By doing the steps I outlined, you're clearing out that folder. When you start everything back up and reboot, only the programs that are actually up and running will re-send their messages to windows security center.

woot! it worked! Thanks alot
-
Cool. I ran into the same problem as you when I uninstalled Comodo and that's what I did so I thought it would work. Uh...you are talking about what I wrote, right?
-
I uninstalled it and it left a lot of traces in the registry which were very difficult in removing.
I finally found a program called registrar lite that allowed me to remove all traces.
I used the steps above to show Vista that it was not there anymore. -
Yup great stuff
-
hmmm, i missed all the fun - comodo + avast (uptodate) - no change in either startup or shutdown
cheers ... -

PS No slow down here or any other problems that I'm aware of -
i really wish I could use Comodo. I think its one of the best out there! Just too bad that it's causing me 200% increase in shutdown time
-
You may want to make sure it's completely unistalled using the above link and try re-installing.
-
Well I installed Comodo before I reformated my computer and it was causing slow shutdowns. I installed Comodo on a fresh reformat and it was still causing slow shut downs.
-
OK, you may want to ask over at the Comodo forums

Well it turns out to be my Defence+ that was creating a slow shutdown. Still the guys over at the comodo forums have not been able to help me prevent the problem. For now, I have turned off Defence+ but left on Comodo firewall. What does Defence+ do exactly? Do I really need it?
-
Defense+ is Comodo's HIPS program. It is important to have if you don't already have one installed. HIPS stands for Host Intrusion Prevention System and helps stop malware from being installed. If you deactivate Comodo's HIPS I suggest using another program. Some programs with HIPS are Windows Defender, Spyware Terminator, and Winpatrol. I use Winpatrol myself. I think ThreatFire also has a HIPS, but I'm not sure. Spyware Blaster is also a good program to have that uses no resources.
-
After turning off Defence+, does the shutdown time revert back to normal? Thanks for the reminder
-
Yup! After I turned off Defence+ im getting 10 second shutdowns again isntead of the 2 minute shutdowns. I left Defence+ off and using Windows Defender and Avira for malware
-
Bryan, have you tried uninstalling Windows Defender (or deactivating?) and using D+? D+ is a "proactive malware defense" (HIPS). It has to be better than Windows Defender!
-
Just tried it. Turned off Windows Defender and turned on D+, went back to a 2min shutdown
-
Bummer. Vettetech just asked you another question on the Comodo forum.
-
hehe thanks Hiker!
-
Thank you so much: this is a fix that works and removes the messages from Vista about your security level for programs you have uninstalled -- great help, thanks!
