No need to be rude, i was just making a suggestion.
-
what i did:
. start leaktest (explorer.exe is trying to execute Leaktest.exe) -> allow this request, nothing else is being checked
. ready to test shows up -> test for leaks chosen
. (leaktest is trying to connect to the internet ..) -> allow this request. nothing else is being chosen
. UNABLE TO CONNECT message coming right back ...
my comodo setup = custom policy and clean PC mode
cheers ... -
Not being rude, just asking the obvious which doesn't need asking, if you get my drift!
-
Well what if comodo got shutdown by another process or by accident and you forgot about it. It happened to me so i was just asking in case you have a bad memory like mine.
-
Fine here too. But you really need to take 20 sec's and turn off Windows Firewall
-
I fixed it!
Here's what I did. Deleted all the leak tests, uninstalled CFP, ran ccleaner, reinstalled CFP, started the learning process over. Seems to be running fine.
If I have another entire day to rack my brain, maybe I'll try the leak test again.

Version 3 is definately a disappointment. The whole UI is slower and the Defense+ implementation seems to be buggy. With the default settings Comodo interfered with new software installation every time. For example launching 7Zip to extract the new version of CPU-Z, I had to give permission every time it extracted a file. The permission window took ages to appear(about a minute each time). That is just ridiculous for the default setting. The undelying firewall is still good but why in the world did they include Defense+ crap; all many users need is a good light firewall and Comodo 3 is not it. For Vista users it might be good alternaive to Zonealarm but for XP users 2.4 is the better option in both usability and resource usage.
-
there should be an option for "treat this as installer/update" - then it should be transparent, have u tried it?
i just tried it, 7Zip and cpuZ1.42 and comodo. It was zippng along even with permission prompts. Actually i haven't experienced any delays in promoting, just volume of prompting
agreed, seeming like many softwares nowadays always trying to offer a bit more of everything
well, i personally like this comodo, since it is the first free firewall that works well under my vista ultimate
dont really know yet, but i do enjoy this new version just the same as was 2.4 under XP. No stress and extra resource usage that i notice on my comp anyway
I have this version under both my XP and Vista partitions.
cheers ... -
Yeah, I didnt try that since I was a bit annoyed at that point. Just disabled defense+ permanently. But it seems to be running stable with just the firewall but definately noticably slower than v2.4.
Plus did anyone notice that double clicking on the shortcut or opening through the start menu with the firewall running in the background wont open the UI. The only way to open it is via the taskbar! -
Yeah, I have to agree with you guys after using this version more. Defense+ is definitely not worth it and neither is "upgrading" to 3.0. What I want is a good clean firewall that uses as few resources as necessary. Granted 3.0 doesn't use that much on my system, it still tries to do too many things. I'm either going to roll back to 2.4 or switch. Probably roll back. Comodo 3.0 feels like the Vista of firewalls.
-
Yeah, not such a big deal....
After a few hours, I found the notices few and far in-between. I think it's fairly light on the resources. Now if I can solve the leaktest problem... -
If you select "trusted application" it shouldn't ask about every file.
-
I've heard that some malicious programs can fake the "trusted applications." Is that true?
-
Only if they are really advanced buggers from 5 years into the future.
-
I tired comodo version 3 yesterday (vista) and having used other firewalls in the past I find version 3 to be very confusing. IMO the options are "all over the place" and this defense+ component is the most worthless part of it all. After running this firewall for ~1hour I gave up on it and removed it. Perhaps a new release will come soon to sort out some of the issues being reported.
I am currently trying a new supplement to the windows firewall called vista firewall control (there is a XP version as well) and while it is nothing fancy atleast with it the plain windows firewall can become like how zonealarm is meaning I have to give permission to each program to access the internet(it remembers my choices so I only have to do it once). It even made the windows firewall pass the GRC leak test something that I found the current V.3 of comodo couldn't do.
I am currently looking for a new software firewall to replace zonealarm which has become very buggy in vista. Atleast for now I am pretty safe behind 2 NATs and a router hardware firewall. -
It is. This thing was in beta for a long time and if they missed such a simple task in testing I wonder how they even pushed it out of beta status. I understand not every scenario can be tested during the alpha/beta stage but I wasnt expecting such a simple oversight.
Yeah, but its still going to bring up the popup every time you install a new software. Its not the permission box per se that is the problem, its how long it took for that box to appear. -
Switched to Online Armor, so far I'm liking it.
-
ah, no Vista support.

I went back to Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite, which I had used on XP, and tried on Vista previously. It still does not have the full feature set on Vista that it has on XP
, but I still have a couple of weeks of trial left ...
-
Well, I'm going to give Comodo FP the benefit of doubt and give it a couple weeks. I also just installed Comodo BOClean. We'll see how it goes...
-
AKAJohnDoe Mime with Tourette's
Perhaps Comodo will have fixes before ZoneAlarm has features
-
I agree and then some. As a long time Comodo user on XP I loved it but had to let it go after switching to Vista. When the Vista compatible came out I was excited but that quickly gave way to disappointment as I found myself spending time allowing and denying simple tasks rather than going on about my business. I uninstalled it after 2 days and I'm back to Vista firewall. It may not be the best but is unobtrusive and does not interfere constantly. BTW I have UAC disabled too.

I like your 'blad avatar, ogun.
-
Well that was a complete disaster! Damn!
I read all the dope, installed, made the proper exclusions etc., everything seemed to be running fine, then all of a sudden, after I closed paint.NET, I couldn't open any programs, got a error message, cant open, that exe does not exist or something. Went to reboot, nope, I don't don't have permission! Hardboot. Tried safe mode last good known, nope! No programs would open, only time and speaker on my systray. task manager would open, but couldn't stop boclean.exe Tried safe mode restore. Here I am, without BOClean.
I need to back stuff up more often. Questions about that later.
-
LOL... I could have sworn my identical problem was BOClean, but after uninstalling that and trying to disable Defender + after having it freeze sending a report, exiting the firewall and not seeing windows security in the systray, I remembered your problems.
Bye, bye Comodo, for now at least. I tried.
Rep for saving me hours of searching.
PS. No rep yet, I have to spread the love 1st -
Same here, Comodo is gone
-
I have downloaded it and installed it. But it seems to have blocked my windows vista sidebar. The wireless stats dont show, but all the others do; how do i allow a program through comodo?
-
I knew you would eventually run into problems, I could sense something wasn't quite right with this firewall within the first hour that I used it. Atleast luckily for me I didn't let it run long enough to "lock me out" of my own system.
This same issue happened to me when I had comodo installed and nothing that I did would solve it. As soon as I removed comodo the wireless stats started to work again. -
That was freaky!
Now that I think of it, I'm sure v 2.4 was also causing problems. This morning my laptop was in hibernation, as it should have been, but hasn't been since I installed that version.
-
You guys with all your problems are starting to scare me.
Maybe i shouldn't install it.
-
Damn looks like a handful of you guys have problems with Comodo. I have it installed since the day it released along with the latest version and no problems yet. Hope it stays that way.
-
Best of luck. I tried to give it an honest evaluation and benefit of doubt, but.... Make sure to back up what's important. I though for sure I'd need to do a clean install.
-
AKAJohnDoe Mime with Tourette's
When that happened to me, I was able to open Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs and uninstall Comodo and it then rebooted to (allegedly) finish the uninstall. Still, I had to do additional work to get Comodo/Defense+ to actually really go away! -
Damn. I knew it. I spoke too soon.
My internet connection has been super laggy. Why?
Comodo Firewall. Dengit.
Oh well, I'll go ahead and turn on Windows Firewall for now until a newer version is available. -
I followed that link on Comodo on how to show hidden non connected devices in Device Manager and set an environment variable for it on start up. I found a couple of traces in there that shouldn't have been within a 100 miles of this machine LOL.
Has Comodo been taking lessons from Norton? LOL Back to Windows Firewall for now. -
You're somewhat lucky. I couldn't open the control panel or add/remove. Hopefully they'll figure it out and work out the bugs..
My post on the Comodo forum describing our problems dropped to the 2nd page without a response.
http://forums.comodo.com/help_for_v3/cfp_v_3_two_horror_stories-t15822.0.html -
Addendum: Seems as though Comodo toasted two programs, USPS Shippers Assistant and Stamps.com. Neither would open, and had to be uninstalled and re-installed.
I wonder if there are any others? -
Dear god you guys have me scared out of my wits! I'm not going to even download comodo. I'll leave it alone until 4.0, or maybe 9.0...
-
Wait till the head of the company croaks....LOL
-
AKAJohnDoe Mime with Tourette's
Was anyone aware of a pre-release beta program for Comodo V3?
-
What do you mean zoid?
-
New management....jk I'm sure they'll get the bugs worked out, but it's so damned invasive!
-
Kidoki. Whatever you say.
-
Not untili read that. I didn't have the CPU issue. I really think it doesn't play nice with NOD32 v3, but I don't think that's the entire problem and it needs some work, obviously.
What are you using for an AV? -
PS I'm thinking...
that maybe not intended it is in actually a Beta release. The forums are monitored, bugs noted. There's also a wishlist of desired changes. It the guys at Comodo are on top of it, it may turn into a great product.
-
AKAJohnDoe Mime with Tourette's
I believe that Comodo V3 was in fact a public beta, although the public was not privy to that knowledge.
-
Count me in as another one with problems with the new version. Comodo prompted me to install the updated version so I did. It left a good first impression (easy installation, great interface and minimal initial performance impact, few "what to do" popups) but soon turned my computer into a sloth!
I came back a hour or two to find my computer super laggy. (even more than usual) I opened task manager to find that my CPU is pegged at 100% usage. I attemped to restart-took about 5 min. for it to just log me off. That was it! I used System Restore to go back to the previous day, hopefully they will get this worked out soon. -
Somewhat disappointed here, as well. First, I had to turn off Defence+ because of its conflict with Avast. 2.x was a perfect firewall, but this one seems to be much less intuitive. I still use it for Windows because 2.x doesn't work with Vista, but I do hate how so many softwares become bloated by time. Why don't they learn that more is not always better?
-
Seems like it. =\
-
I'll weigh in with my experience.
Uninstalled Zonealarm as it was conflicting with Azureus and had high hopes for this firewall. So far I find it far more difficult to configure than Zonealarm and somewhat annoying with its regular pop-ups. I'm not certain using the trusted application option will help matters either after reading the horror stories on this thread. On the plus side my PC did pass the shields up test online and seems to pick up more intrusion attempts than Zonealarm albeit at the cost of occasional lags when the program decides to detect a change.
