which is the better firewall? (regardless of price)
and better by how much?

Comodo's firewall easily beats both versions of ZoneAlarm, though the paid version of ZoneAlarm isn't too bad.

I tried them both and went with ZoneAlarm AntiVirus. Much better on Vista for me than Comodo.
I take Matousec with a grain (or three) of salt. -
Comodo. I personally find ZoneAlarm to be a resource hog.
-
+1 for Comodo..if you can't stand the pop-ups don't enable Defense+
-
+1 Comodo Firewall , yeah as Meetloaf said you either disable it completely or put it under Training mode for atleast for a couple of week so that it can learn you behavioral pattern
-
Comodo Firewall Professional (Free One), I had been a long-time user of Zone Alarm (since 2002, Zone Alarm Basic, Zone Alarm Professional, Zone Alarm Antivirus, Zone Alarm Security Suite) and once I found out about Comodo, I switched to it and never looked back.
Defense + can be a bit annoying at times, but makes a quite good and reliable substitute for Windows Vista's UAC, being more configurable and detecting more activities than UAC. -
Is D+ really a replacement for UAC? (if so, I'm doing double-time =\ )
-
Kind of, it does not detect Administrator Privileges, however, but it even catches applications trying to modify registry keys trying to access the screen and the keyboard, or trying to install Global Hooks or access other applications in memory (good feature against RootKits), basically, if your antivirus fails to detect a virus, it is good to have Defense + to stop it on its tracks.

Pretty much the same as ZAAV with Program Control Advanced Heuristics
-
well, I just started using the MacAfee UAC program that can remember your clicks, and it's been pretty nice. I haven't noticed any overhead problems having both going...though, overkill it may be

how does comodo firewall compare the the Vista firewall?
will it make a diff on my laptop if all i do is surf the web (safe web pages only)
and download torrents? -

If you are behind a properly configured router (not directly connected to the internet, that is) a fairly strong case can be made that you do not need any firewall.
However, if you are going for torrents you might want some malware protection.
Comodo firewall or ZoneAlarm firewall?
