1. Valuable files saved on a seperate drive.
2. Anti Virus up to date
3. Computer scanned tonight with latest AV updates.
Lets see who is the best AV out there tomorrow and if all bases have been covered.
Avast reckon's they are good and are prepared. Let's see how Avira (I use it) and the rest do.
Cheers,
Theo

4.make sure that you have latest windows updates.

Looks good.
Yup, don't forget that.
See this thread for more info: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=366202 -
Thanks folks. Windoze 100% up to date.
Lets see what happens.
Cheers -
If the virus gets through some AV's and not others (unlikely)... that really doesn't say anything about the AV's it didn't get through... it could easily just be that the authors of the virus didn't deem those AV's popular enough to write in a work through for them.

this scares me
Superantispywareremover is good......
avira....is used a lot....
BRING IT ON
IM NOT BACKIN UP ANYTHING
RAAWWWRRRR. -
Or... disable your internet and wait to find out what it actually does?
I'm turning off my wireless on my laptop before I go to bed. Will check the news from my work computer. -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
And I'm not doing a thing about this "worm".
-
this is a very good idea.
i will rofl when all school library computers die lol. -
same
10 char -
I've build a moat around the house, filled it with fishes to eat the worm and I'll put in sharks later on to devour the fishes.
Not sure what to do about the sharks later on though... -
Same. Personally I think there's way too much hype about this supposedly devastating worm - heck, I'm not even running an antivirus on two of my machines.
-
im kinda excited
lol
i want to see all the havoc it wrecks on my school while my computers stay safe lol. -
have updated avast, will check for updates again before I go to bed.
other than that, I haven't done squat aside from cleaning my cookies + temp. internet files etc.
a scan from avast + one from eset (their free web-based scanner) might be called for tomorrow though -
Conficker has been around for sometime, its programmed to evolve today though.
-
One overly hyped April 1st myth.
-
?? where's the myth? it exists, and its going to become more active on april 1st... i think that's all anyone's saying
-
About Windows update: I have Windows Vista, and it's asking me to update to Service Pack 1 or something like that, do I need to do that?
-
The myth that the worm will wreck havoc on April 1st.
-
Heh, I was watching CNN earlier trying to hype up the expected response to this so called "worm" which could infect SO MANY COMPUTERS AND CAUSE NETWORKS TO CRASH ALL OVER THE WORLD!!! They made it seem like I should throw my PCs out the window and live in a cave...till the day after of course.
-
I have done, non of the following:
1. Backed up important data.
2. Updated my anti-virus (hell, I don't even have any on this machine).
3. Ran a scan before tomorrow (with what?).
4. Windows is how ever up to date.
Sleep well everyone, I know I will. -
yeah well thats the media... thats what sells. anyone with common sense and a basic understanding of the virus will realize that the authors likely won't upload and execute to the virus on april 1st
-
Ok, so now Conficker searches more websites for instructions (double)...what those maybe we'll hopefully see it before these computers get replaced.
-
Appears I am still safe (and so is the rest of the Western World).
Looking back on yesterday, it was a huge April Fool hoax.....
However, it's better to be safe than sorry. And I was safe. And plan to keep it that way.
Cheers -
It was a big deal, after all it did what it was suppose to do (double its check for instructions) and I have come across computers with the virus, so its every bit a threat that they make it out to be (friend got it from a thumb drive). It just didn't attack yet, and to be honest, it now has a 1 out of 50 (presuming only one of the randomly chosen site contain instructions) chance of finding the right site.
For most of us its a no brainer, we will know if we are infected and we do know how to remove it without to many problems. 10 million machines, mostly in corp machines is a huge threat! -
Never looked at it that way. Too true and +1 for you.
Cheers -
It wasn't a hoax. It was something blown out of proportion by a bunch of stupid people.
No one said it'd do anything EXCEPT start checking 50,000 servers a day for instructions. People just assumed that meant it must be doing something on that day. In actuality, it may not do anything for days. The creators just made the instruction sites harder to weed out.
Conficker hits tomorrow. Have done the following:
