Do you have antivirus or spyware protection?
I dont. i just use the windows built in items, and call it a day. i dont download alot, so i think im fine...If you do have Antivirus/spyware protection, name it.
-
I used to do that. I'm savvy enough to realize what could be a possible threat to my PC online etc. However, my roommate didn't. Needless to say, I had to experience total loss of everything stored on my computer because he downloaded a virus.
Since then, Anti-virus software is the first software i install after rebuilding a PC. -
I use mcafee and adaware-2007
-
kaspersky and a-squared

I'm savy enough to know what's safe and what's not. I still run AVG free though, just in case....
-
Antivirus: Avira, Spyware: Threatfire + SUPERAntiSpyware.

You know, during the Win95 revolution I never bought into the system security services (predominantly Norton at the time) out there. I went bareback till around 2001, or whenever that huge RPC error virus caught us all in mid shutdown.
Knowing your pc, especially knowing processes, ports and services keeps the infection limit nill in my experience.
I do use free avira for scanning downloadables, cd’s, etc- and I bareback the net with no firewall.
Except for the above infection, I have never got one – (and I do surf a bit of porn and p2p).
It’s not that hard to miss the hits. -
It's funny you mention that... I was just reinstalling Windows for my grandfather a few hours ago because he said it was running slow. Out of curiosity I pulled the hard drive and scanned it for viruses and the like. Avira logged 14 pages (I printed the log, as I was so amazed) of trojans and other software showed countless malware and adware.
He downloads very little too
. I have no clue how someone who can't figure out how to change his background can accumulate that.
That is enough to make me glad about running protected
.

hehe, maybe gramps has been *late nite surfing with google images? lol
do you find that avira sometimes pulls false positives? i do, esp for db files i use at work. -
Antivirus/Antispyware/Firewall is a must when using Windows. I used to use Avira Antivir and Comodo Firewall Pro when i was using Windows.
-
I haven't had any trouble on my system with Avira. It seems to be a pretty well built program. It did identify a program which I knew to be safe to 'contain a DIALER', but other than that no issues. No program is perfect though.
The safer it is, the more annoying it can be at times
.

AVG 8.0 and Zonealarm free firewall, both free

Wow I am tired because I thought the thread title was "Do you have Antivirus or Spyware problem?".... and I voted 'no'. lol
Guess I need to go to bed right now. :/ -
agree!
i came to avira from avg
-
Avira and Spybot S&D.

AVG 8.0 and Comodo Pro.

Norton Internet Security 2008.
I'm pretty excited about v2009. -
Usually, Sophos Anti-Virus, which I've been very satisfied with, and no anti-spyware. If Sophos had a consumer version I'd certainly recommend it/replace Norton with it.
Right now, Norton Internet Security 2007 (on an older desktop). I'm not excited about v2009 - 2007 is slower than molasses in January (and it's supposed to be a big improvement over 2006). Hopefully this computer will be running Kaspersky or some other brand that has less overhead in a month or two - when Norton isn't hogging all the resources it's actually decently fast. -
No antivirus here, most viruses are coded for 32bit OS and since i'm running 64bit Vista, theres no need.
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
I use Kaspersky Anti-virus 2009 and Comodo Firewall.
-
NOD32 + SuperAntiSpyware
-
I'm just running Vista's built-in stuff now. That's Windows Firewall + Defender + UAC.
Plus common sense, which helps a lot. Plus Firefox. And I don't use torrents or download .exe's from porn sites.
I used to run Avast but in two years it never caught anything... so last time I reinstalled I decided to skip the AV to get better performance. I use one of the online browser-based AV scanners once in a while... never finds anything. I'm pretty careful.
Still, I do recommend antivirus for any users without a long malware-free track record... and also anyone who uses torrents or other P2P stuff.
As for the firewall... yeah I probably should get an outbound-blocking firewall... maybe one of these days.
-
Kaspersky Internet Security and Winpatrol. On my browser, I have Adblock Plus and NoScript.
-
I'm using KIS 2009.
No problems here but I don't do a lot of hazardous browsing or downloading. Thought I would need at least some protection though. Read up on it and decided that a suite that offered a 'complete' protection package would be fine for me.... So I went with Kaspersky since it's not a resource hog. I love it! -
That was pretty much my deciding factor as well.
-
I should of added, that is also another reason i do not have anti virus because they use so much computer resources. Im also like a lot of you guys are pretty careful about what sites your go on (no porn here!) I do use limewire PRO to download music and only download songs that are quality 192 bitrate or better, and look "official".. So far so good!
-
What do you mean by "look official?"
-
i use NO A/V or other security software...
my DSL modem has a firewall i leave set at minimum... and my router has a firewall that i have configured a little more robustly....
the way i see it is this... if i get a VIRUS i needed to format my laptop anyway.... as long as i keep my data backed-up regularly it's no big hastle...
years ago (back in the late 90's) i did have lots of virus problems.... mostly from using software of a negative nature... but that time in my PC life taught me alot -
Well, here we go:
Antivirus (& Third Anti-Spyware Layer) - Avast! Home, Version 4.8.
Anti-Spyware (& Second Anti-Spyware Layer) - Spybot Search And Destroy + Tea Timer + SD Helper.
Anti-Spyware Immunizer (& First Anti-Spyware Layer) - Spyware Blaster W/O Auto-Updating.
Firewall (& Fourth Anti-Spyware Layer) - Comodo Firewall Professional W/ Firewall & Defense + enabled at Safe Mode. (Passed all of Shields Up!'s with TruStealth Rating)
Tweaking - CCleaner, TuneUp Utillities 2008, Sweepi.
Overwatch - ProceXP.
Web Browser - Firefox 3.0 (W/ NoScript, McAfee Site Advisor, AdBlock Plus & Avast!'s Auto Downloads-Scanning).
Operating System - Tweaked Windows Vista Home Premium (runs with as low as 9 System Processes) 64-Bit.
Processor - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 @ 2.66 GHz; EM64T, Hardware D.E.P and Hardware Virtualization are enabled.
And of course, my own common sense, I run a full scan / tweaking every week, apply CCleaner and Update (and Immunize if needed with both Spyware Blaster and SpyBot's Immunizing Tool) Spyware Blaster and SpyBot.
No Malware found within my system at any times, other than less than 3 tracking cookies (which does not happen often).
-
Firewall: Comodo Firewall Pro, Comodo Memory Firewall
Antivirus: Avira Antivir
Antispyware: Threatfire (real time), a-squared (on demand), spybot s&d (for "immunization" feature) -
I run
Nod32 Antivirus
Zonealarm Internet Suite (Antivirus turned off)
Netgear Firewall (On router)
I have
Spybot: Search and Destroy
Ad-aware
Nope, nothing has ever got past. I even get free programs.... somehow :rolleyes2: -
Anyone who thinks there's no way they'd ever need antivirus software defines the term arrogant. I use NOD32 and I have spybot and webroot installed without the real time protection. I scan maybe once a month.
-
I have NOD32 Installed along with SpySweeper, however I don't run them in realtime. I manually run a scan on things I download from "questionable" sources before unzipping/running. I also do a complete system scan once a week. System performance is much better and I can still keep the nasties at bay. It just requires a little more work which I am more than happy to do.
-
Do you need a firewall if your running a wireless home network that requires a security password?
-
I use the built-in Windows Defender and Windows Firewall with Windows Vista x64. Never used any Anti-Virus in my entire life, yet I don't know if I have any virus's or not.
-
Yes. You should still have outbound protection.
-
Halp! Halp!!! Teh booboo on my compoooter!! Haaalp!
In all seriousness:
AV: Avira (this this is picky. once it gets hold of a virus, I can't even use "ignore" function! it simply insists to delete the damn thing to hell)
Antispy: Spybot/superantispyware
Do you have antivirus or spyware protection?
