So regardless of price, what are the fastest anti-virus programs for XP and Vista? I'm tired of my system grinding to a halt for 8 hours while my virus program runs a system check.
-
8 HOURS!? Holy moly... Avast, set to scan all files and archives, takes about an hour an a half to complete a full scan on my laptop... of course I only have a 60Gb drive. I usually have it set to scan in the middle of the night, so it doesn't do it while i'm using it.
-
the fastest?? Eset Nod32 AV v3... absolute minimal resource hog!! and fast scans... recommend it to anyone...
For free antivirus you could even try avira or avast... if your looking for some free AV then i'd recommend avira... -
oh its fairly priced too...
-
Thanks so much! Yea, my hard drive is only 80MB and I've tried both Norton and McAfee and it's an exercise in sheer frustration.
-
80mb? what is it a 386 or something? Maybe time for an upgrade?
-
80 MB HD can be scanned in seconds. Is that a micro hard drive in a cell phone?
-
AVG free is fast. Norton AV 2008 is also worth trying. Avast, Avira are to name a few other freebies.
-
Antivir works very fast for me with a 400GB HDD and it's almost full.
-
Second the antivir. It scans my 7k200 with 100 GB of used data in about 1-2 mins.
-
Fastest antivirus? NOD32 hands down!
-
Antivir takes only 1-2 mins, usually closer to 2 mins. Avast takes a long time though on thorough scan, about 1 hour 30 mins. Yes, antivir can scan that fast.

just got a laptop with a 200gb hd and a 1year mcafee antivirus subscription. will i see a major slowdown?

i think kaspersky it scans very very fast u can use a trial
-
Ohhhh! 80GB (of course), not 80MB. (I could scan 80 Mb myself by just reading all the files on the disk.)

lol i think i could to -
So I was going to try this out using the free trial offer but it doesn't seem to working on their website.

Has anyone successfully used the trial version? -
There's a downloadable version on CNET. Just search for ESET NOD32. Looks like version 3 just came out. Just downloaded it and my previous 8-hour McAfee scanning nightmare seems to be a thing of the past. 32% done and it's only been running for about 3 minutes. (note: this older machine is running on a Pentium 4, so I expect others will have much faster scanning times).
-
Actually, I think Nod2.7 is even faster than 3.0...but that's beside the point. They're both incredibly fast and good.
-
lol... It took 43 minutes to scan the 80GB with NOD32.
