i installed vista on the laptop and everything was fine until three weeks later the vista antimalware crap came up so i had to delete it using malwarebytes the scan saw like 1000 infections so i thought wow this is bad so i removed everything that the was infected but some stuff said that the laptop needed rebooting to remove the malware so i rebooted and then it says that a critical system driver is missing or corrupt i contacted dell but since the warranty expired they are charging me $59 for the service which i refused i checked everywhere and i even tried system restor but the option to do system restore isnt available in advanced options so i cant do that and my disc for vist ultimate broke so can anyone help?
-
Try using sentences please.
But try booting into safe mode and using system restore first. -
tried safe mode the error just pops up again. and the system restore option is not available in advanced boot menu.
-
Did you go to the system restore option in the start menu?
-
yeah i would try that but the OS doesn't start because of the critical driver being missing or corrupt. it told me to isert the disc and if i didnt have the disc to vist i should call dell. Tried calling dell charged me $59 dollars and i dont have the money
-
Oh no. That's not good. I think an important part of your Operating System got deleted. You tried safe mode under advanced boot options..hmm. Do you have a second computer you can use?
-
yeah i did safe mode was there but it didn't work. apparently system restore is in advanced boot menu under system repair but its not there
-
Sorry I edited my post after reading yours a second time. Do you have a second computer? You could just make your own Vista disc easily enough if you have a DVD burner.
-
yeah im using a second computer but i dont have a dvd/r
-
Does a friend have a DVD burner you could use? Or does anyone you know have a Vista disc you could borrow? You need to get one somehow.
-
1 infection is bad enough but 1,000?!
I hope you had a backup of your data. I wouldn't trust anything on that computer with that many infections. I don't know where you live but if you're in the USA you could call the CDC.
j/k
I hate to tell you this but you probably need to do a format or run killdisk and zero out that drive. Do you visit questionable sites, open suspicious email? Holy Cow 1,000 infections? -
everyone i know has windows 7 but as for dvd/rw's i don't know
-
Well it looks to me like you'll have to pay Dell (or someone else) for a new Vista DVD. You'll want to try and restore it to grab your data, or just wipe it and start over.
-
not really no i dont visit sites that are weird or open emails that i dont know about it's probably the vista "antimalware 2010" that made all those infections
-
Yup, the "Antimalware 2010" *was* the malware.
-
yeah pretty much tries to steal your money and leaves infections for you how nice of it
-
Do you use Limewire? Torrents? You got it from somewhere.
-
i deleted limwir when i had xp same with torrents and did a full scan fo all of the files said i was secure so just in case i deleted files anyway to make room for vista ultmate uprade which formated the hard drive so i installed everything that i need back on... sigh i need my laptop to breath life again so i can at least send the music files onto a flash drive so i can print the parts for the marchiing band field show for next year
-
Did a friend use your lappy?
-
yeah just to use sibileus 4 to make a drum cadence but i had halo on it so someone i dont know was using it so he could play it while i wasn't looking but the band caught him and kicked him out and i did a backup of the score then formatted the hard drive just in case. and thats pretty much the last tome i ever let someone use my laptop ever again and that was like a week ago.
-
Oh ok, just checking. ^_^
Well I wish you luck, if you need anything else let me know.
-
will a vist home basic be a good idea to useas a disc to let me use my laptop again btw i have vista ultimate
-
I'd say no.

You do realize that you have legal versions of Vista and 7 in various editions available online for download?
The links in question should be available on this site.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=240320
Although it would appear the links leading to the OS aren't working at the moment.
Either way ... you could burn Vista ultimate on a disc and then try repairing the existing install.
Once and if you get everything into working order ... make sure you have an effective anti-virus protection in place.
Avira 10, Avast 5 or MSE will do.
And for malware ... well, Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware are the two which should be used.
Btw ... you must have gotten the initial infection from somewhere.
Not necessarily torrent sites and whatnot ... but possibly advertisements.
I recommend you block ads in your Internet browser and connect it with your antivirus program which will scan all incoming downloads. -
I would have mentioned the download links, but he already stated he has no burner.
-
I say YES because IIRC Vista DVD's had all the versions on the same disc including OEM. The Vista Basic OEM DVD I bought from Newegg has every version on it including Ultimate.
-
Oops, I looked it up, you're right.
-
k thanks my sisters bf is going to bring his vista home basic disc on wendsday so by then i will be able to tell you firstbhand if it works or not
