I had avira 8, but then upgraded to avira 9 pe free edition and lately the guard has been popping up, about 25 times now saying that "C:\HP\BIN\KillIt.exe" could be a virus called "AAPL/KillApp.A". Same with "c:\windows\nircmd.exe", but virus total reported it infected 11 out of 41. After scanning with jotti, the first one only 2 out of 21 reported it as a virus. Could this be a false detection or is it a real virus? Has anyone been having updating problems for avira 9? The manual updates at... http://www.avira.com/en/support/kbdetails.php?id=95 the current one? Thanks

KillIt.exe is part of HP software.
If you're working on a HP it's ok.
Nircmd.exe is used in some (legitimate) removal programs like Combofix and can be flagged as malware because of it's capabilities.
If you have installed a malware removal tool like Combofix yourself, you're good.
Avira's updates (v.9 free) are quite random; sometimes fast but often very slow in my experience.
I thing this may be a virus, not sure though...
