Basically, I need to purchase a anti-virus/firewall program. I hear Kaspersky is one of the best. I need this program for my new laptop (will run Vista). My question is this... Should I supplement Kaspersky with another program (I don't care if it is free or not)?

You might need a adware and firewall too.

If it helps, it's Vista Home Premium 64Bit.

I thought Kaspersky Internet Security included all three. Or are you saying those two aspects of Kaspersky are lacking?

He probably thought you were just talking about Kaspersky Anti-Virus. Yes, the Internet Security does it all, and very well in my opinion.

So, in your opinion, I should be find with KIS. I don't need to supplement it with anything (so long as I'm not stupid and download random stuff)?

KIS with common sense should be perfect, it's all I run. Also, you can download the tactical release version of 2009 (KIS 8) and use KIS 7/2008 key with it.

2009 is a great upgrade, and tactical release is pretty much the final the version.

yeah stick with KIS. If you decide to go with Norton, it'll just eat too much resources and be inefficient where KIS is equal to it and burns alot less resources.

Been using KIS for a couple years now, it works great, is highly customizable, uses minimal resources and is priced right! I bought my first copy for $30 OEM and when I renewed I got 3 licenses for $50 so now it's on all my systems :D

It wouldn't hurt to have a secondary anti-virus program. Just pick up a free one and turn off the active protection on the secondary program. Kasp is a great anti-virus program

Yes it is worth noting I use CCleaner regularly (I know it's not a virus scanner but does a great job on pesky temp files). I even do a SpyBot scan once in a blue moon. It never finds anything though, guess I am fairly clean ;)

To all those who are running KIS 7.0, can I do without installing Webroot Spysweeper? Is there a reason to have both on my system?

Never used Spysweeper but I would say you don't need it if you don't want it. KIS is very good. Ditch the webroot stuff.

Thanks. I think I will forgo the Webroot installation.

I'm using Ultimate x64, and I have had no problems with Kaspersky.
