Ok so I have Kaspersky Internet security 2010 and recently I noticed this that it is saying my mirror's edge and nfss no-disc cracks are act "similiar" to keyloggers.......

When I scan the actual .exe file, Kaspersky says it is clean..........What should I do, I want to keep the no disc crack as I hate having to change discs everytime. How do I know for sure that I have a keylogger on my computer? Kinda getting a bit paranoid........
here is another picture:

btw I posted this on steam forums for help and they said I was a pirate I guess and when I went back I was banned forever. I didn't pirate these games. I own them all. I just downloaded the no-cd crack so I won't have to put in the cd everytime I wanna play a different game.

Well, sometimes KIS reports certain programmes - maybe because they do act suspiciously - only thing you can do is try virustotal.com
-
Don't know what to tell you man.. It's possible whoever wrote the crack put something in there, never know. If you play with fire enough, eventually..
-
here is virustotal for nfss

I have been reading about PDM.kelloggers with KIS 2010 and apparently a lot of sources are saying it's a false positive........but I would like to be sure... -
Well, short of reading the code yourself there is no guarantee.
But as none of the scanners has flagged it - you have good reasons to believe its safe - but there never is a guarantee. -
well I checked I started my dragon age and my borderlands game and according to KIS they are PDM.keyloggers also...
SO basically Half of my games are keyloggers....That makes perfect sense......
dumb kaspersky, I think I'm going to do a superantispyware scan a little later......
-
No, its not dumb Kaspersky.
Maybe some of the programme's behaviour even matches a keylogger - and better safe than sorry.
By the way, any chance you could resize your screenshots? -
sorry I can't
idk how
But see the thing that frustrates me is that if they are keyloggers why doesn't it pick it up right when I scan the actual .exe file? and why doesn't any other antivirus seem to pick it up according to virus total?

Let me try to give you an idea.
You are at the station and someone is pacing up and down - or standing around and looking...
It could be a terrorist - or it could be someone waiting for someone else.
2 options, very different - KIS takes the "let's be cautious" route. -
well i just did a full scan with kaspersky and it said no threads detected so im not going to worry about it.....
I'm scanning now with Superantispyware............so far no problems.... it ended and 0 threats...
I think I understand what your saying now....The program may not be an actual keylogger but it behaves like one....so it's not kaspersky's fault....I can't say I really "trust" the people I downloaded these from although they are trusted by the rest of the community.....I'm just wondering how do cracks behave like keyloggers? I wonder if I downloaded a keylogger on purpose if kaspersky would say the same thing "It behaves like a keylogger" or It is a keylogger... I know other people are having this problem with ventrillo....so idk
btw +1 Detlev, thanks for your help
I'm still a bit weary, If a keylogger was on my computer where would a be able to locate it in the task manager? -
I think any software that monitors keyboard input can behave like a keylogger...
I think there was a WinDVD component or so that KIS flagged in an older version.
About finding it in task manager - impossible.
You may be able (if there is one) to track it down via process explorer from the sysinternals suite
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/default.aspx
And you're welcome
-
you can submit files to avira for scanning
http://analysis.avira.com/samples/index.php
ive sent them a few files before that turned out to be false positives -
virustotal does this and checks it with avira along with about 40 other antiviruses
Also if I can't find it.....how do I know it's running? If I delete the cracks from my computer.....kaspersky will say the same thing when I do a scan "No Threats are found"
If I had a legit keylogger on my computer, would kaspersky find it by just scanning the file?
Also....do you think because it's a crack Kaspesky sees the .exe file which is not verified looking at what buttons I press in the game? As I move left in mirrors edge for example it reads that I have the left arrow key held done.
If these are real keyloggers that means everybody else is screwed except the people with kaspersky 2010........ -
I think you're fine. Sometimes Kaspersky flags games as keyloggers, because of the way the game captures keyboard input. Just put the games as Trusted and you won't get the notifications anymore.
-
Ok thanks guys, I'm just going to reassure myself even more by putting up a poll......
-
Well, I wouldn't worry about it.
But I wouldn't add them to the exclusion list either. -
I just realized this was about No-CD patches for those games. Well, if you got them from a reputable source like GCW then I wouldn't worry about it. But, disregard my previous post about putting them as trusted.
-
yea I'm not putting them into trusted.....if I remove these cracks....will I be still endanger of a keylogger? How will I know if the keylogger is there?
Yea I got them from gamecopyworld
strangely enough it's not happening with my dragon age origins....going to check the logs to see if it did it before... -
Discussions about no-CD cracks and the (possible) use of copied software is not allowed on these forums.
If your security software believes that there are keyloggers involved with this software, I would take it at face value and assume they are keyloggers.
