For all of you who are having the red icon in the taskbar notifying you that NOD32 has a problem, here is *my* personal fix. Maybe it would work if you use the settings that I do.
For us to do this, we need to have UAC disabled always, I don't have a problem with that, since that is the way I have my PC all the time. I don't need UAC, it is just plain annoying and I know what I run I don't need anything to monitor my usage. If you agree to disable UAC then here are the steps, very simple.
1) Install Windows Vista*duh*
2) Install Vista SP2 FTW
3) Install NOD32 v4.0.437 (32-Bit) or (64-Bit)
4) You will get the red NOD32 icon in the taskbar notifying you that NOD32 has a problem! Great!![]()
5) Restart your PC, problem fixed.
6) Update you virus signatures.
8) Enjoy N0D32 FTW

Note: Teh above was tested on my system which is Windows Vista Business (64-Bit)

It does not fix anything.

Here's a link miner posted in the "Windows Vista SP2 Now Available" thread: http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2254
I believe it to be the best solution yet. -
on what system exactly did u do this?
and did u follow the procedures precisely? -
On my system, and yes, I followed the procedures precisely, MaXimus.
P.S - I rebooted my notebook, and the version giving me problems just went green again, by itself! -
So there you go
My solution works
-
No, I tried your solution on my desktop, it didn't work. I never changed anything on my notebook (NOD32 x86-64 v4.0.314.0), did a reboot, and it worked!
-
That is because you did not follow the instructions precisely like you have claimed, the problem is that you are not using the latest version, re-read the guide then judge
-
Sir, on my desktop, I did what you said, installed the latest version and living beings' excrement, and it did not work.
I did nothing on my notebook, did a reboot, and it worked.
I hope that helped.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
dunno why, why is it working on my 64 bit Vista Business and not on yours?

And I don't, for the life of me, know why the old version is working for me right now, when it didn't for you.
-
Where did you download v4.0.437? Its not showing up on the eset website.

ESET has released an update that will fix the issue when using SP2 finally. It is still in BETA mode but works fine. If you wanna try it before hand, do the following:
- open the settings
- go to update
- click on advanced
- check the box where it says ENABLE TEST MOD
- click update on your antivirus
- you will automatically download a 24 MB update.
- problem fixed
For more details, visit the link below -
Sir, thank you for sharing with us this invaluable piece of information. But as señor Johnny T said in that other thread, why not put it in one thread?
-
coz these were too much instructions it would be confusing. sorry
-
MaXimus.....I have merged your thread into your other one again. If you try to make one more new thread on this you will receive an infraction. You've already been warned.
-
Lolz, don't messz with ze jedi super mod. She has eyes all around!!!
-
what stinks is the firewall still sucks... they need to fix that
-
Warned? Infraction? For doing this community a favour?
Does the message board get that much affected for on extra topic that I Made, I did get your point, but I wanted a clean thread solely highlightin the right fix, if I just posted it in the old thread, then maybe people would miss out the part where the fix was posted.
anyway, kthxbye
-
Please elaborate? I don't get the firewall thing?
-
guess you have not visited the official nod forums at wilders..

who uses a firewall other than the windows firewall anyways?
it works great, never nags around, is integrated in the system for best performance and works even before the actual network connections are set up.
a vire scanner, i can understand. everything else (spyware, adware etc, firewalls and such) i can't. -
i hate windows firewall personally and would never run it
-
Posts #1, #3, #13, #15, #16 re-iterate the "right" fix over and over ... It is hard to miss
cheers ... -

Avast + Spyware Blaster
cheers ... -
DITTO! I agree 110%

I agree and tried my old xp friend, zonealarm and got several BSOD's for 64 bit vista. Came across Vista Firewall Manager and it does a great job and is free. Pretty awesome so I can say yes or no to whatever programs. That's really all I need since I hide behind a router...
-

and the professional reason for this?
besides that no one needs a firewall as long as he/she is behind a router that has no ports forwarded anyways. -

i personally prefer a much more adjustable firewall on my own systems. i like look n stop, outpost, tiny firewall etc. windows firewall is way to basic and is not a great firewall when tested against leak tests.
though i agree if you are behind a good router that is set up PROPERLY then you dont really need a firewall unless you want simple app control. for that windows firewall is okay or there are others that are much better with rules
