Well, I just got my free 15 day trial to the latest version of NIS and I cant find where to configure personal firewall. I almost wish that I had not done the update. Any suggestions? I might just try a system restore to go back to the previouse version, but I'm sure Norton probably booby-trapped that! Anybody know how to set the firewall for which programs can access your computer and which cant? (if youve ever had Adobe Updates run an update while your trying to burn a DVD and mess it up ,you will know what I'm talking about.( yes, I know you can select not to enable auto updates on alot of these programs, but I like to configure the firewall to block them also)

Hi Fulltilt,
You thread has been moved to the Security forum, it will get better results here!

If you are using Windows, you will find Windows firewall option in control panel.

I think he's referring to Norton Internet Security, it's firewall takes over and disables the one in Windows.
Anyway, the firewall in Norton 09 is designed to be as unobtrusive as possible, so perhaps the program rules feature isn't there
From the PC Mag review (honestly it's the best way for me to explain it):
"The flip side of personal firewall protection is program control—keeping programs on your system from abusing access to the Internet or network. Early personal firewalls asked a million questions. Every time a program attempted Internet access for the first time, they'd ask the user whether to permit it or not, often in confusing terms. The user just isn't really qualified to make that decision, so Norton handles program control completely on its own. It destroys known bad programs on sight and grants access to known good programs. Norton watches the behavior of any unknowns and blocks them only if their actions appear malicious."
I tried searching Norton support, but came up empty-only directions for previous versions. Have you tried the free "one-click support" functionalty built in? You may be able to do a text chat with Norton support. -
In the configuration that I use, windows firewall is off and is controlled by Norton.

In my previouse version of Norton , after initial contact with a program , and a program rule was made, you could go back and change it if you liked. In this new version of Norton, the interface has changed and I cant find the configure personal firewall menu, I know it has to be in there somewhere.

Aha here it is, It all comes down to finding the right search terms for Google, LOL

Holy Toledo ! I found it, there was a scroll bar to the right after I had clicked on settings, but I did not see it. Thanks alot, you have earned a much deserved rep point.

Well, I also see that Norton did NOT transfer my program controll settings when I did the update, so I will have to do them all over, one by one, as I access the programs and they try to "phone home".
