I found new software Notebak for the laptop and I liked the alarm when close the lid. Has anyone else used it?

hmm i wonder. im certainly not going to be the first to click the link especially as its also been posted on the pc world forum Notebak Anti-theft For Laptop - PCWorld Forums
i use Prey anti theft http://preyproject.com/ but it looks like its not available in america.

I also posted on PCWorld Forums and what? I'm still no one could have heard the view
I tried Preyproject and I did not like. The weak program and no internet connection and nothing works! -
the only reason i posted that is we get a lot of spammers on this forum and when you see a new member with only one post and also a link it sets of alarm bells that it could be a potential virus.
prey works for me. you have to give it 10-15 minutes before it is activated.
by the way, welcome to nbr. -
Thank you MrDJ
, but I'll look for something more interesting than the Prey ...

I had to register to add this comment, so yes, it's my only one, but:
I was checking out what people say about Notebak, because I am going to download it. No, it's not a virus. It's been reviewed by PC Mag, so that's legit enough for me

I think it will be well worth it to get it, so I just wanted to dispel the myth that it's not legit. Hope that helps somebody. -
I'd always advise a Kensington lock, since it actually might deter a theft. Software solutions all amount to closing the barn door after the horse ran away.

I'm curious... how will this prevent people from removing the feature with a simple format or an OS re-install?
A BIOS password lock (to prevent the computer from going past POST without a password) would be much more effective in rendering it relatively safe (then again, with all manufacturers pretty much locking away BIOS functions, that's not exactly easy to accomplish).
Unless this is supposed to deter theft with an alarm if someone merely touches the laptop itself (which would rouse suspicion in a public place if you left it unattended anyway). -
LoJack for Laptops, pings the server with its IP Address every 23Hrs 59Min when hooked up to the internet. If it disconnects, then reconnects to the net it will ping the server immediately. If you report your notebook stolen to them (lojack), the next time it connects to the internet the return ping is set for every 15Min, Lojack informs the police, the police produce a search warrent to the internet provider for the location of the IP Address, and they go out to do a stolen property recovery.
Lojack is responsible for the stolen vehicle lockout and recovery associated with On Star and GM.
I have it on both my notebook and desktop, as they are in the top 5 things stolen in a house break in.
