Do you have issues with Windows Live OneCare?

I thought about it last fall when I finally nuked McAfee, but after all of the reviews - including all of the problems and negative comments on the MSFT community forums - I decided to pass. With all of the free programs out there that work well, I saw no need to pay $50 to MSFT for OneCare. Would certainly spend my $ on NOD32 or others before OneCare.

The poll numbers might suggest you that not many people use WLO. Moreover microsoft's antivirus engine doesn't have good detection rates.

I have had no problems with 2.0 nor now with the 2.5 Beta. It runs very light on both of my machines. Earlier this year AV-Comparatives and AV-Test released their test results in which AV-C gave OC 93.9% rating and AV-T gave it a 96.9% rating (the difference being that AV-C includes older samples).
Other things I like is the integration and the printer sharing feature. Used to when I wanted to print from my laptop I had to log into my desktop and select "connect to" on the printer. OC automatically configures this so all I have to do now is to just hit 'print'. It is like having the printer connected directly to the laptop.
I do not use the backup however instead I am using Paragon Drive Backup. Since I didn't pay but $19.95 (beta tester discount) I don't feel I lost anything. It stays pretty quiet and does it's thing like blocking 5 instances of Zlob and a couple of more trojans the past couple of months. Results from online scans from other vendors have been negative as well. -
Don't use it.

Very thorough and insightful!

don't use that POS! NOD32 FTW!!!!!!!

Haha I figured I'd chime in with my poll vote.

Even monkeys know better than to use WLO.

i think he was referring to poll number 3 "i dont use it"
not like a command "dont use it"
lol
i use it, works wonderful. -
I used WLOC for around 2yrs. I didnt renew it was due to the fact that free stuff can do as good a job and the AV engine on One care still needs to be improved. Its not bad per se but compared to the more established AV's one care pales in comparision. However its still not too bad, if you are sensible with your online web surfing WLOC will provide the basic level of security. The major plus for One care is the firewall is more managable and usable by the average joe. I still have it on my parents computers and they love it. I dont get calls as often as I did when I had comodo/ZA on their systems blocking/allowing programs they had no clue about. In that aspect WLOC even without a good AV engine has its benefits.
They also include additional benefits like software backup, defragmenting and the newer versions also allow for easy one click printer sharing between computers which use the same one care license(3 computers). All I can say is dont pay the full price for WLOC. Most retailers will be selling it for ~15 - 30 bucks at which price it is a decent buy for a 3 license AV. -
Yea that's what I meant. I wasn't trying to say "don't use it". Sorry for the confusion.

I've tested it in the past and had various problems with it slowing my computer down, needless to say i don't use it.

Can't base a review off a product you used five years ago. I think you are also only posting to get a rise out of McGrady due to your little battle with him earlier in another thread.
Onecare 2 grew to be a nice product.
I did not care for onecare 1... but onecare 2.0 is a very nice and mature product from Microsoft. I was pleasantly surprised how well the product matured.
Onecare 2 is light on resources (or equal to other products) and has various other tools that work well for newbies.
I only picked up the product because it was free... http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-C7S...sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1211005089&sr=8-1
This is not something I would pay for... since I don't need all the extra stuff, like sharing printers (I can set that up myself) or performance stuff (I can do that myself).
This is a product with fairly good reviews.... works very smoothly for me... I like it... and it seems less clumsy than other products.
AVG 8.0 destroyed my compter, good thing I had a backup. AVG 7.5 is okay, if you can find a download. Some of the other free downloads are terrible. One makes you go through a popup everytime you boot. Much better experience with onecare. -
Nope, didn't test it 5 years ago. More like 2 months ago, also you are wrong again. I am posting to inform the OP of my thoughts on the product, and i had no battle with McGrady, i simply told him to stop being rude as i don't care for that.

I got it for free with Qwest upgraded DSL speed.
Since I installed it, my HDD went tits-up. I have no clue if WLOC was the culprit and will probably never know the HDD was a Maxtor 4gb made back in 2003 when I bought my Dimension 4600. Good thing I never, ever, ever keep important files on the same HDD as the OS.
Question for my fellow forum friends...
My brand new 530 is shipped and I will receive it within a few days. My dilemma... Install McAfee (I get it free by being a soldier) or AVG?
Both are free to me. What to do?
Thanks!

neither? I would probably go with Avira or Avast free versions before either of those. I HATED McAfee - it was a great day for my laptop when I canceled the subscription! I have used both Avast and Avira in the past 18 months and currectly use Avira with Threatfire. Like it!
