Hi, my son is in the Army and is in Afghanistan, they don't have internet access, but they share files between them and in doing so they have unwillingly all have gotten a virus.
Is their way of sending them a burned CD with perhaps a new antivirus program and latest virus def. So that he and the other guys can install it on there Laptops and get rid of this virus?
Any suggestions as to how to do this and what software to send.

It will be almost impossible to send the latest virus definition along with any antivirus software for off-line installation
cheers ... -
Hi Jim,
There are several options you can choose from, if you want to send him (a) CD(s).
1.
You can choose to simply download a free antivirus and/or antimalware program and their most recent updates and burn those on a CD, so your son can install those programs on his computer from that CD.
If you choose to download the free version of Avira, you can download the most recent signatures here; link
After downloading the free version of Malwarebytes, manual updates can be found here; link
2.
Or you can choose to download and burn Boot-CD's (these don't require Windows to run).
To mention some;
Avira Rescue CD
As the Avira site says; " The Avira AntiVir Rescue System is updated several times a day so that the most recent security updates are always available."
Dr. Web Live CD is another recommended rescue CD.
This blog; www.raymond.cc, offers detailed explanation on how to create these CD's for;
Avira Rescue CD
Dr.Web LiveCD
2 others (haven't tried them myself in a long time);
BitDefender Rescue CD
F-Secure Rescue CD
3.
A rescue CD tool that requires a bit more work to figure out (but well worth it) is the UBCD4Win/Ultimate BootCD for Windows.
It contains many antivirus and antimalware programs like Avira, SUPERAntispyware, Malwarebytes'Antimalware and many other programs.
Check the contents of the latest version here.
The how-to page with instructions can be found here.
Remember that you'll have to create separate CD's for options 2 and 3, you can't put all those files on one DVD to run them all.
All the best to you and your family and godspeed for your son and his mates. -
Thank you, everyone, wow that's a lot of information and options.
The boot CD looks to be the easy way to go, they won't have to uninstall the antivirus programs they have, the only thing I have to worry about is if they have the CD/DVD drive set in the BIOS to boot. I have to convay all this info using letters (snail Mail).
I'll do all the option, and let them deceide.
Again, thank you.

look up the ultimate boot disk you can boot off that and it has great stuff loaded in it to help do what you want.
