Date: Sat, 5 Apr 2008 13:19:33 -0400
I received this warning, confirmed by Snopes at: http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/postcard.asp, from a contact in Iowa.
Subject: FW: Please read, BIG virus coming
Please read, BIG virus coming
I checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus!
I checked snopes.com, this morning ( 03-29-08) and it is for real!!
Get this E-mail message sent around to your contacts ASAP.
PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS!
You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment entitled POSTCARD,' regardless of who sent it to you. It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C of your computer. This virus will be received from someone who has our e-mail address in his/her contact list. This is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it.
If you receive a mail called' POSTCARD,' even though sent to you by a friend, do not open it.! This includes all cards, too. Shut down your computer immediately.
This is the worst virus announced by CNN. It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus.
This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept.
COPY THIS E-MAIL, AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS. REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US.
Use video conversation to talk face-to-face with Windows Live Messenger. Get started!

Its a HOAX
quote from
http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_postcard_virus.htm
"IMPORTANT NOTE: Some versions of this hoax claim the information was "verified" on Snopes.com. This is NOT true. There is verification on Snopes.com of a different e-card virus threat with a similar name."
BUT there WAS a REAL virus and not hoax with same name in 2007
a quote from
http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_you_received_greeting_card.htm
"NOTE: Not to be confused with 'POSTCARD' virus hoax of 2008" -
I have never seen or heard of this letter before. Thanks for the heads-up.
-
My friend who lives in Washington sent me an email about this very thing. Honestly, I never heard of it before.
-
I've seen similar things....I can't really figure out what the point of such a hoax is.
-
If it were real it wouldn't have been 6 days late unless you already got it!
And I didn't come up with anything. (duh) -
Yeah I got this a week ago too. It's obviously false, but does any one know what the point of it is?
-
I guess they don't want anyone to open the postcards. Or maybe they
figure people will go out and buy as much spyware/anti virus software as possible. -
99% of all warning emails are hoaxes. These seem to be more dangerous than any real virus as they cause sooooo much trouble with my work, my family, my friends and acquaintances all asking me if it is a real virus that they should be worried about. I think there is a need for some sort of anti-hoax software
-
But what's the point of it?
-
Oh Noez A Harddrive Killer!

Damn it. Now when i want to send attachments called "postcard" to people, they wont open them.
-
Thanks, if this is real, I'm in linux for awhile.
-
You should never open any unsolicited attachments period.
-
I'm running a good combination of virus and spyware protection, so I say BRING IT ON!!!
-
Me too, Avira + Super Anti Spyware + A-squared + AVG Free + Comodo Firewall.
I can use linux if anything happens
-
and these goof-balls even put "I checked it on snopes.com" in there too like nobody else would go look!
-
I suppose it is kind of like Chain-mail, the starter want to see how "far" the mail will travel around the internet, otherwise, I guess it is for some stupid reason.
-
I think it's fake, if not, i have NOD32 and Comodo pro firewall.
-
I don't open any attachments I don't know about. I'm good.
Warning!!! Suppose to be a serious Virus coming I received this note.
