Western Digital Ships "Someone's Backdoor" With My Cloud Drives
"Exploitable models of Western Digital's MyCloud devices include My Cloud Gen 2, My Cloud EX2, My Cloud EX2 Ultra, My Cloud PR2100, My Cloud PR4100, My Cloud EX4, My Cloud EX2100, My Cloud EX4100, My Cloud DL2100 and My Cloud DL4100. Needless to say, until a patch is issued, the best thing to do is to thoroughly disconnect these drives from your local area network and Internet access. But that isn't what users originally bought these drives for, now is it, WD?"

That sounds pretty scary, I don't remember if I have WD in my system right now or not.
-
The affected systems are WD’s cloud-friendly external hard drives, not their internal hard drives.

And that exploit was patched a while ago. -
That said, WD's "NAS products" aren't all that great imo. Synology or QNAP would be better buys imo, WD backdoor or not.

Depends on what you're looking to do. For basic backup use, the MyCloud is fine. Anything more complex, like running a Plex server, then you will want one of those more robust solutions.
