I had Norton 360 premier edition but it has expired and I didn't think it was that great don't really want Norton again anyways I've looked at
-MCAFEE TOTAL PROTECTION 2009 __ will consider these
-MCAFEE Internet Security 2009
-Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2009
What can you recomend me/advice/thoughts pleaseI'd very much apreciate the help?

get avira premium security suite..
-
McAfee is not a good idea too.
I think you should get ESET NOD 32 which is powerful and very light resources.
Kaspersky too.
Norton actually works well and is better than McAfee.
Avira is a good choice also. -
Norton Internet Security 2009 is pretty good for home use. I like how it is fast and very light on system resources, unlike previous editions of Norton. In fact, I never expected to return to a Norton product again after the horrors I've encountered in the past, but they have truly made a remarkable turnaround. Very polished interface too.

(free) Avast on ALL our family comps!
cheers ... -
Norton 360 is more of a resource hog compared to Norton Internet Security 2009 simply because it uses more memory for its Backup Utility and PC Tuneup features (which you can most likely get from other freeware programs that require less memory). You shouldn't discredit all Symantec products just because you had some bad experience with 360. I'm not a Norton fanboy or anything (in fact before NIS 2009, I really hated the previous versions); however, I think you should still keep NIS 2009...or the upcoming 2010 version, among your options because they are a big improvement. Currently an NIS 2009 user and am so far pleased with the program and customer service from Symantec.
Mcafee hasn't really garnered a lot of positive reviews lately (due to missing many viruses in benchmarked scans), so I would try to stay away from their products for the meantime. There are better alternatives in the market now. For complete, all-in-one security suites, you should consider Eset Smart Security 4 and also Kaspersky Internet Security 2010. -
Exactly. XD!
My ancient Acer laptop(my little brother using) uses AVIRA FREE.
My noob desktop(my sister and little brother using) uses AVIRA FREE.
My laptop(currently using) uses AVIRA FREE.
My cousin laptop uses AVIRA FREE.
My cousin(lol another) going to have AVIRA FREE from me soon.
AVIRA FREE = SECURE, SIMPLE and FAST -
Best protection = knowledge
Antiviruses are more often than not for a secure feeling because the knowledgeable user will rarely get viruses(haven't gotten one in 7 years). Trust me, if someone wanted(and I mean really wanted) to plant something harmful in your computer, a generic security software wouldn't stop them lol
(trust me, I know people who've bypassed all these programs before). Don't want to scare you though! Nobody's after whatever data is on your computer though(unless it's that valuable which I doubt).
Anyhow...scare fest over....
I'd suggest getting one of the free ones suggested(Avira, Avast, AVG, Comodo etc.).
If you insist on paying, I'd personally suggest nod32 or Kapersky. Nod32 is very light on the system and Kapersky has a unique behavioral detection system which the other antiviruses don't have. -
Paid:
Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 for best all-round protection.
Norton Internet Security 2009 would be the next best bet. It's almost as good as Kaspersky, however it uses less resources.
ESET NOD32 if you only want an anti-virus. ESET's AV is better than the rest, and is the lightest, but it's firewall doesn't compare to other security suites.
Free:
Most people here would currently either recommend Avira or Avast.
But like the mermaid just said, stop downloading pr0n off dodgy websites and you'll be much safer. Go legit.
And keep away from "MCAFEE"!
-
That's because you're only using antivirus.
Try ESET Smart Security.
What would be the best antivirus protection used for home to buy? pls recomend me :(
