hi all,
well am using AVG now, someone told me that Nod32 is a great anti-virus software to use... is it better than AVG???
and which software do you guys use?
and which do you think is the best?
-
Wait...have you gotten a virus from AVG? And then, since your answer is no, how can you judge whats better?
I use AVG and swear by it. I have used it for free now
Benefits?
Free
Almost Daily definition update
Frequent program update
Uses very little system resources
I heve never had a virus get through not once
Cons
Hmm still thinking...Don't think there is one. -
I use Nod32 and it works fine, i used to use norton cuz it came for free but it kept on telling me this and that were viruses but never actually letting me do anything not even delete them....
Ive used AVG and bitdefender before and both were great, I used panda once and it just refused to uninstall. -
norton corporate came free with my college once u pay 30K a year u get a free antivirus and vista which i'm not using as xp is awesome

It has been tested that AVG recognizes less virusses than Avast and Antivirus PE. http://wiki.castlecops.com/AntiVirus_Comparison
If you want to go free I recommend Avast with password protection. But more important: If you ever run a possibly suspicious file always do it in a limited user account.
I found that Kaspersky was the only AV product that actually protected me from a malicious file. If you want to read the details go here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=170458 -

I personally use NOD32, but find that AVG is fairly good for a free Antivirus software.
-
I use Avast over AVG for two main reasons.
Avast have a real time web shield scanner, and it does not scan everytime on startup. Because of the scanning everytime on startup, it makes the booting of my notebook longer than usual. -
i use symantec corp edition because its free for me

So many threads on this topic. Perhaps the topic needs it's own forum?
SEARCH and FIND. -
I'm using avast on both my Windows and Linux installs.
-
Or maybe just a sticky. Best Antivirus, spyware and security applications.

Too many opinions for a sticky; "Best" is subjective at best. -
Ofcourse "best" is subjective, you are right. Such a thread would be to collect opinions.
Just like the thread: "Best Free Software for Windows "
Anyway, I vote for sticky "Best AV and security software for Windows " -
Norton 2007/2008, ftw.
-
well..... i use AVG on my desktop and Avast on my laptop and... "two thumbs up"
. both are really good.
i have more experience with AVG. It detects every little thing while browsing the internet.
i recommend both. -
Kaspersky V7 for me.
-
Me? I use AntiVir Personal Edition Classic much better then AVG or Avast!
For Anti-Spyware I use Ad-Aware Free.
For Firewall I use Comodo Firewall Plus -
I'm using Norton Internet Security 2007 on my PC (no viruses on my Mac
).
It is not my choice on what AV I use, if I did have a say, I would probably be using NOD32 or Kaspersky, which in my opinion are the two best AV applications out there.
-
Avira Antivir PE and AVG Free.
-
AVG free edition, But as AKAJohnDoe said, there are tons of threads on this already.

I moved my recommendations to my website, under PDA, then under PC Security. Anyone who wants to know them can look there.

I don't use any anti-virus on my main computer and avg on the ones the rest of the family uses. Never really had a issues. I don't use IE.
-
I use NOD32..our IT at the school changed a couple of years ago from Norton to NOD b/c there were to many complains about Norton..but some ppl do like it but as far as the best goes..there will always be a different opinion in that.

Webroot Anti-Virus and Spysweeper

Hi guys, I'm using AVG Antivirus Free Edition and having no problem so far. I would like to ask how to prevent it running virus scan everytime I open a Microsoft Office file. Thanks.. ^^
-
NOD32 - doesn't get in the way and doesn't take up too many resources.
-
Kaspersky internet security here
-
i switched from AVG to KIS
KIS is simply GREAT!!! -
Antivir...free, light on resources, high detection rate
-
AVG, Avast, Antivir.

Rerun the Install.exe and select Add/Remove components. If installing for
the first time, choose Custom Install and deselect the plugin -
I'd been using AVG Free all these years. It was ok but some viruses got through on rare occassions. I just upgraded to Eset's Smart Security, i.e. NOD32+antispam+firewall, because I read that it works great with Windows Vista. It's a new security suite that was launched just this Monday - NOD32 was upgraded to version 3.0 too.
So far everything works as it should and there's no system slowdown at all. -
I use both AVG free and Avast. This combo has worked very well for me.
-
I just use Kaspersky Internet Security Suite 7.0
Zero viruses, spyware, etc ever since I got it, though it does get quite annoying with all the warning when you put firewall in training mode since it will block every connection before it verifies it with you
at least you know it's working though -
I use Windows Live OneCare. No viruses, spyware, etc.
The Tune-Up option is great, too.
Live OneCare, once configured to not show every program it has blocked, etc., is a great anti-virus piece of software. -
I use AVG Free, Ad-Aware 2007 Free Edition and Spybot Search and Destroy. Yet to pick up a single virus.

I use OneCare for my PC. I had to switch from Panda due to incompatability issues....
-
honestly if you want the best one....try XoftSpySE, it cleared what Norton 2008, Adaware Professional, Spybot S&D, and ZoneAlarm couldn't. It takes care of all the crappy "toolbars" that appear on IE, and it clears all the trojans. That was the best 40 bucks i've ever spent on computer software.

Both AVG and Avast are nice free AV programs. In my opinion the main con is that both programs are a bit slow when doing real-time scanning. On my ThinkPad X61 with a T7300 2.0GHz and 3GB RAM it is noticable when opening applications. This is why I chose NOD32.
NOD32 is much faster at this. In fact I do not notice any difference in speed with NOD32 enabled compared to when there is no AV program installed. -
Avast, next time make a poll so we can see how they stack up. ;-)
-
Yes, I have....that's why I'm jaded by it. But that was about 5 years ago, so it's probably much better than it was then.
Now I use NOD32, Webroot Spysweeper, Comodo Firewall (Free), and Threatfire (Free). Spysweeper replaces Windows Defender real time protection, but I still run a regular scan with Windows Defender. Comodo replaces the Vista Firewall. And Threatfire picks up where the others pretty much leave off. I really don't see a degradation of performance, i.e. can't notice they are all running except when they catch something. FWIW. The overall effect seems to be very light on resources in feel, and in task manager too.
Which Anti-Virus software do you guys use?
