Why no tracking cookies?

For over 2 years, I've been using AVG as my anti-virus, Firewall< "identity protection" etc software. My 2 laptops are scanned 3-4 times a week each.

Until Dec 11, after a scan, there would be the occasional infection found but always between 30-100 tracking cookies. I would delete them on a regular basis -- which would often require me to re-sign in to sites like NBR that I go to because the cookie was gone.

Recently I noticed that the cookies for the sites I intentionally visit no longer have a problem when I delete all the cookies.

But since Dec 11 not a single cookie has been found on either laptop. No infections (which were rare anyway) and no cookies. Each computer has been scanned 4-5 times since then.

Concerned that some virus was hiding the cookies form AVG, I ran SAS and MAM -- one on each computer -- and still nothing came up.n

I don't sense my computers operating any faster -- if anything the laptops might be running a tad slower.

BTW I use XP as an OS -- the laptops are ASUS z70va and HP Pavilion.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

 

check your settings to see if your browser is set to remove cookies when closing. or its possible that avg did this for you.

 

I use IE8. I can't find where to check if this option is checked. Can you tell me how?

BTW -- I am running once again SAS on the ASUS -- and this time it is picking up 100's of tracking cookies

What does that mean about AVG? is there some setting I accidental turned on so it didn't detect these tracking cookies?

Am running SAS on my HP right after a scan by AVG. AVG found 30 tracking cookies which I deleted. Then I started an SAS scan -- 400! tracking cookies -- undetected by AVG, found so far...

It's a bad idea to buy 3 years of an antivirus software -- no matter how much the discount. Things can change so fast in a couple of years.

 

imo i would have told you to skip on avg. i am not a fan and have had way to many customers with it that have had issues..

 

I was wondering the same thing. All of a sudden 0 scan results. To fix this I had to open up the scan settings then enable scan for tracking cookies. That fixed the problem.

 

I would not worry about the cookies , but the occasional infections found each scan . Where do you surf to pick up these infections ?? In 20 years of computing I think I have found 2 infections , and they were FP , most things don't get in they are stopped before they get on computer ., if I found infection on computer i would re-install OS .
I scan once a month , if that , the AV , AS are supposed to keep things out , if they are getting in I would rethink what you are using , as it is NOT doing a very good job .

 

Spysweeper finds almost all spyware and spy cookies in every scan, avg just cant compete.
