hi all NBR users, just wanted to see what is the most popular Virus Protection Software is.
I use Norton.![]()
-
I use more than one, if you really want to know they are Avast, Antivir, and AVG.
-
Surprised not to see Kaspersky, Nod, AVG or Avast on your list; it seems incomplete even with the "other" choice.
-
None. On my Mac
.
-
Iv'e never heard of any of them, sorry
-
You know what, i'm going to make a mac virus just for you Sam. It'll be a nice little Christmas gift from me to you.
-
Those aren't as well known outside the "tech circle", but inside, a lot of people use the antivirus software that bmwrob listed. They're constantly known as the best antivirus software out there.
-
Thanks for the gift! Betcha don't know how to code.
-
I don't know how to code anything but css, and html but i will just use a premade script. Then i'll be a script kiddie. heh, reminds me of this time i nearly wiped out my xp partion because i got false info on how to make a virus.
-
I use AVG free edition.

same as tibo
-
I use AVG, but how do I know it's working? All my scans come back with no threat found.

maybe ur a safe person
-
i use kaspersky 6.0
-
Hahahahahahaha! I don't run any.... virus software. Yeah... maybe I should.
Anywho, I feel pretty safe about my email. The school filters out 95% of the bad stuff before it hits us. However, I do need to run a online panda scan soon! -
ccbr, you should be running something in the way of an AV, whether a paid or free app. You're pushing your luck, IMO, unless you're running OSX, Linux or the like. When you can use AVG or Avast for free, the chance you're taking with your machine doesn't seem logical to me. In any case, I hope your luck holds.
@GE: if you're machine isn't having any issues, I think you can feel comfortable in assuming that all is well. If there are doubts in your mind, as ccbr mentioned, there are online scans you can run to double-check AVG. -

I have not been using any anti virus for over six months now.
No problems. -
if u are only using decent sites such as microsoft, or any other site without advvertising than you are safe. According to "virus hunters" illegal mp3 sites and porn sites are the ones with most crap on them
-
I use avast! personally, and apart from the Zero day virus that infected my pc a while ago its stopped a lotta virus's getting on my machine
and to ^ wolfriader
if only that was true
email and being on someone else's network are where I mostly get the "Virus detected message" -
Yeah P2P and sharing sites are floating with it...
But again sites with decent filters do not have viruses unless it is archived ot in other form quarantined. -
nod32 here
-
I just watch where I go on the internet. Also, I don't do much torrent stuff either anymore. You could say that I'm watching out for myself without running any software, and like I said, most of my email is internet based, so I'm protected in that respect. I think I'm pretty safe.
-
I use Antivir Classic Personal Edition Tried norton, Avast!, & AVG but, AntiVir is best for me.
-
that's a pretty crappy list...i like avg..if that didn't exist, i would go with avast
-
1. Max router's firewall settings.
2. Work in a limited user account.
3. Use Opera instead of IE.
4. Disable scripts, java, and plug-ins.
5. Using site preferences in Opera, set scripts, java, or plug-ins to work in sites just where needed.
6. Use Opera's blocked content to block ad serving sites like Doubleclick and IntelliTXT.
This appraoch is by no means bullit proof and you could still add anti-maelware to it, but this approach by itself has the little perk of actually speeding up browsing. -
I use symantec antivirus corporate edition (got from my university), which is very low is resource usage.
-
By Other peoples networks i meant, LAN party's and free wifi hotspots *doesn't use p2p apart from for the latest linux distros*
and you seem to forget the websites don't always have control over the adverts that are on their site. I remember Gizmodo pr Engadget having some problems with the flash exploit banner adverts on their site at one point, now its just back to the occasional nsfw banner (the one of the womens backsides with smiley faces on)
anyway, back to topic
wanted to mention the gf's computer uses Norton anti virus, I loathe it the subscription ran out
and the uninstall couldn't run without the software being subscribed to. -
Download this. It'll wipe norton from your system, used it on my xp install and it worked like a charm.
