Step666 I found you!
The interwebz are smaller than I thought....
-
-
So you did!
To be fair, if you just Google my username, the entire first page at least all relates to me.
I should explain the quote - it's from a (current) Lifehacker article about whether or not you should put a case on your phone and the guy I was replying to basically said that if you love your phone, you'd use a case, which I felt was a little condescending. -
I love my lock & home screens... So simple and sexy
(it's not a static image, it's Phase Beam LWP)
What do you guys think of them?
-
Why do you appear to be connected to O2 Germany?
-
How do you get the clock on your home screen? Btw I love Phase beam.

It shows an "R" in the network indicator, so I assume he's roaming... ?
It's an AOKP widget. -
Ahh OK. I just realised the Owner Info thing on screen lock. I never use a pattern/pin/password on my phone. I just changed the owner info to "IF FOUND CALL...". Figured its worth a shot if I lose my phone. I just like how easy it is for the slide to unlock. Can't be bothered with the other things. I know I should but I don't
. I like easy

LMAO. Same here. Slide Unlock is effortless. Every once in a while I'll put on a pattern lock, but I end up disabling it after a few days... too much work/hassle. -
As HAL said, I'm roaming
I'm in Berlin at the moment, and will return to Funchal on the 21st of April.
-
Which is weird, because I'm on AOKP and I don't have it - unless it was added in one of the most recent builds?
-
Right on. I had actually read the article, then noticed the avatar. Only then did I pay attention to the name.
I read Gizmodo/Lifehacker pretty much every day.
I wasn't bored enough at work to google anyone yesterday.
-
In what AOKP build are you on right now? I'm on Build 32.
-
I'm on AOKP build 32 as well and love the Phase Beam LWP and what not. Only problems I've ran into are wireless tethering not working and the reboot option taking me to recovery instead. I also miss being able to set my phone to silent through the lock screen, like I could with the Rotary Revamped lock screen included in CM7. And no, I can't just install that one 'cause the new one is too good looking.
-
Weird... No issues here! I have 3 reboot options and wifi tethering works just fine!
Also, I gotta recommend you to go and set 192 DPI. Once you try that out, you won't br able to return to stock dpi
(ROM Control -> General UI -> LCD Density)
-
Hey. Whats the best emulator out in the store right now?
-
I have to admit that I didn't wipe all user data before going from CM7 to AOKP. I only wiped /system, /cache and /dalvik cache. I was planning to wait for CM9, but that got boring quickly. I'll keep using AOKP until CM9 is released, and then I'll wipe. I can live with those two bugs, and I have no guarantee that wiping would actually fix them. I could of course just backup and then wipe to see for myself, but I don't feel like doing that now.
BTW, I get all three options, but the standard reboot option brings me to the recovery menu.
I know about the LCD Density option, but I'm no fan of non-native dpi. My stock dpi is 240.
Some emulators have been removed from the Google Play Store. N64oid, one of the said emulators, is among my favorites and is up for grabs on SlideME. -
So those who have a Galaxy Nexus.. how you guys like it
-
Hate the AOKP notification pulldown, and cant get past that boot animation
-
I don't mind the notification pulldown and the kang boot animation can be disabled. You'll then get a very clean looking one.
-
Haha same here. I'll put a pattern on and try it out a few times bit turn it off when I get it wrong a few times. Too much hassle lol.

I can't be bothered re-flashing my handset too often, so I'm sticking to the milestone builds.
If you head into Settings > ROM Control > Lockscreen options > Lockscreen style, then you can change it to Quad or Octo and that will then allow you to customise the shortcuts at the bottom of the Lockscreen options menu.
It's great but you really need a custom ROM to make the most of it.
AOKP is my personal recommendation.
The boot animation's pretty... 'marmite' but they do add an option to the ROM Control menu to disable it if you want, plus you can always flash an alternative one.
Not sure what you mean about the notification pulldown though
-
I've tried that before, but for some reason custom apps don't show up no matter which lock screen I pick. Thanks anyway.
-
How did you go from CM7 to AOKP? You need to have an ICS base & bootloader to be "secure" in AOKP and CM9-like ROMs
But the AOKP pulldown is the same as CM9's?
Why can't you reflash often? The AOKP Build 32 fixes loads of things and has many new features... -
I could if I wanted to, I just don't want to.
It's a faff. -
But it's just a matter of download, putting it in recovery mode, and flashing! :O Which is like, 5 mins? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
But then you have to migrate all your SMS's/Contacts/Settings/etc... to get it back to normal. It's quite a large hassle if you do it correctly. -
Mmmmm...
When I go from one build of AOKP to another, all I have to wipe is Cache and Dalvik Cache, nothing else... Contacts, Settings and SMS's all stay there...
Plus, if you use Google Contacts, it's much easier. And restoring SMS's is just a matter of 1min... -
Hmm, this is what the pulldown bar looks like on AOKP Build 32 for me
-
-
Idk for some reason I just dont like that style, I like the stock/regular toggles. I wish they would have a setting to go back to that.
But I'm pretty happy with Codename Android
Also an AOKP ROM.
-
You mean like Settings > ROM Control > Toggles > Alternate toggles?
-
Lol, wow did I really miss that?
-
Here's mine :
Browse around in ROM control, and change to your likings
You can also change to toggles to look like this :
-
Like I said, I just wiped all the important bits apart from my user data. Got a nice migration dialoge at the first boot where my apps were adjusted. Refreshing the reboot option (changing another one and then changing back) fixed the problem I was having btw, so I assume it was there because of left over data.

The actual specs of the GS III have now surfaced:

Actually, that's the Galaxy M. Been said that the Galaxy M is the GT-I9300 and the SIII hasn't even been leaked/touched, because it's still in a dev box, and will only be shown in the May 3rd event.
And if the GT-I9300 is indeed the GSIII, then it's a disappointment really. Same GPU from the SII is stupid considering they moved to quad core... Plus, 630Mb of total RAM?!
I'm very sure that's not the final design of both the GSIII and GM. That's a dev box. It's way too ugly.
I'm sorry, but I forgot, what's your phone?

Figure this might be of some interest to people here:
-
I grabbed the video from the Engadget article. It's supposed to be the real deal, not the Galaxy M. Did the Samsung Galaxy S III just appear in Vietnam? (video) (updated with statement) -- Engadget
Agreed. I was thinking I might have to buy a new phone when the GS III was released, but this doesn't look that interesting.
There's a plastic case surrounding the phone, so you can't get a proper look at it yet.
I don't blame you for forgetting. I don't exactly post here often.
When I had yet to buy my current phone I thought I would buy a new phone much sooner than I ended up doing. The delay was caused by the announcement of WP7. I thought it looked very promising, but when Microsoft confirmed that they would be using outdated Qualcomm 8250 processors across the entire portfolio I knew I had to look elsewhere. When Nvidia and LG announced the world's first dual core phone, the LG Optimus 2X, my wait was over. Already back then the specs of the GS II had been leaked, but I decided the benefits over the P990 were to small to justify waiting even longer. Games with eye candy graphics would primarily be developed for Tegra 2 anyway, and the only real area the GS II was rumored to best the O2X by a larger margin was video decoding. All in all I don't regret not waiting even longer nor do I regret sticking with Android.

And that's the reason I loathe NVIDIA with the burning hot passion of a thousand suns. I cannot adequately express in words how much that makes my blood pressure go up...
There were phones out there even when Tegra 2 was still relevant, like the GS2, that would handily beat it in graphics and CPU performance sometimes by multiple factors... but then the Tegra games were special and wouldn't run on anything else but Tegra because of the ridiculous texture compression.
I think the new GS III specs are pretty nice. Exynos 5250 will be going into tablets and the 4412 is for the immediate needs. The only thing I'm hoping is that they've fixed the audio. The Yahama DAC on the Exynos 4210 is just garbage compared to what they had in their previous flagship. Fix that and I'll buy one before I even know the price. -
That's one approach to how Nvidia entered the ARM scene. I would say it's more accurate to look back and see how the Android gaming scene looked like before Nvidia made a big splash with Tegra. Everything was developed with the lowest common denominator in mind. That didn't only include hardware, but also the OS. Needless to say iOS users had much prettier games to show off than high end Android phone users.
In an ideal world companies wouldn't put down restrictions like that, but you have to think about the funding that was required to make game developers focus on high end hardware. Even though it would have been preferable that all the major processors got their own fine-tuned versions, I think we can all agree on there being more attractive games available on Android thanks to Nvidia's efforts. All power users know how to run Tegra games on non-Tegra SoCs anyway, leftover processing power be damned. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Well, I'm thankful in a way... but I'm also not in other ways. If a developer is worth his salt he won't make an SoC specific game. No exceptions. What can be done on one can be done on all, since Android makes concessions for this in how the apps are packaged.
The only thing Android developers can be accused of is being lazy. Not optimizing your graphics for multiple screen resolutions is a thing that should be done with every single app made for Android starting with 1.6.
I will say this though... Android's HAL layer needs a bit of improvement. Either that or mandate a minimum kernel source version for all device OEM's. -
We can't say much until official specs of the GSIII are released. Many "credible sources" saying a huge overhaul, other "credible sources" saying a small upgrade similar to that of the iPhone4 to the 4S. I refuse to believe the recent specs that some sites released. I'm pretty sure that's just Samsung's next midrange offering. Samsung wouldn't go through all this trouble with their own announcement event and all the secrecy if it were only a small upgrade.

I have to disagree - if all they do is put the 4412 in it, that's basically an admission of failure.
Given how long they've taken to bring it to market, they really need to do more than that IMO.
A15 or go home. -
Here is my phone build info. I never update
. Such a newb/n00b
That's my battery at 20%. When at work I have to lock up my phone so I put it in airplane mode. 3300mAh Siedio.
BTW I don't like Images shack Droid. Could be so much better. I Does it try to sync everyday? I rarely use it so when I do use it I generally uninstall it right after.

Screen on time?
-
Not sure. Used 49% of the battery.
Anyone have a copy of the last Facebook version?? The new update as of today is trash. It installs crap I don't want or need. Like a messenger shortcut and a camera shortcut. I hate updating stuff...

I'm disappointed but the writing's been on the wall for a while now. I honestly might just have to suck it up and move on, especially if it means being stuck on locked down Motorola handsets.
Hopefully Samsung won't abandon ship, but its telling that there isn't a galaxy s II QWERTY equivalent (I guess because sprint decided to make the current epic touchscreen only) -
In the battery usage screen, if you tap on the bit that says how much of the battery the screen used, it should take you to another screen saying how long it was on for.
@booboo: at the end of the day, if they're not selling you can't really blame HTC for taking that step.
And if they're not selling for HTC, a company that is considered to have produced some of the best WinMo and Android handsets with hardware keyboards, one suspects the same may be true for other manufacturers. -
Ahh gotcha. Never knew that. 5hr28min.
Sent from my Samsung Captivate/ICS using Tapatalk 2 -
No worries.
That's pretty damned good - I don't think I've seen any other screen on times that higher when the handset lasted more than 24 hours total.
