That's some high-praise from you, sir. I still want to see it in person.

I'm glad Samsung is doing justice to the original, because it is just too good to drop. I LOVE mine.

Yeah with something like the note, i'd want that custom stuff samsung's done. It's just the principle of the whole thing... :/

I'm wondering if I should get the Note 2, or wait for the S4 with Exynos 5xxx and 1080p... Any advice?

When it was announced, I was a bit disappointed by the specs.
But as soon as you start to use it, any thought of specs go out the window - it's so smooth, so slick, the S-Pen features make the Note and the Note 10.1 look clunky, the camera features are really clever ( and I'm not normally taken with cameras on phones) and I just generally really want one.

I'm hoping I get given one through work but I'll have to wait and see...

Yeah, the LTE version is being launched over here too.

I'm hoping Samsung change their network for the reps handsets so we can get LTE - I mean, we want to show off the handsets in the best way possible, right?

There's 10 cities in the UK get LTE at the end of the month, I live near one of them and the office I theoretically work out of is in another one of them.
There'll be 6 more by the end of the year and then they'll roll it out from there throughout the next couple of years.

That's just EE, the other networks are now in line to be able to launch LTE in ~6 months after dropping all legal challenges in return for the spectrum auctions being brought forward ( ironically they were only pushed back due to previous legal action by one network in particular).

Nice! My carrier is finally stepping up to its game! 4G being used now... Very nice!

I think it's still the N7100 international build, I don't want to my carrier to offer a custom named, custom bootloader phone... If it is, I'll have to buy it unlocked...

Well, the roll out over there shouldn't take nearly as long as it will here. There's just too much area to cover over here in the US.

Do that anyway...lol. Carrier phones, bleh!

I dont get a new phone till July, ugh... getting so tired of my old GS2

Will be excited to see what the Galaxy S IV is like though, since that's probably what I'll be getting. The Note 2 is nice, and I love big screens, but i cant say I'd take a 5.5" phone. :p Gotta cap it at under 5", the S3 is quite big enough IMO.

Yeah it's not a bad phone, but after seeing the S3, and with the battery problems I'm having, It's making me wanna get rid of it :p

Not sure if the battery issues are software or hardware, I've tried calibrating several times, trying one final time today with a full charge/discharge and all that recommended stuff. If that doesnt fix it ill have to buy a new battery.

What problems are you having? I don't use any power saving mechanisms (including CPU-capping), and since starting the day at 8 AM, I'm down to 65% charge with very heavy usage for texting and web browsing, occasionally in signal-poor areas that tax the battery. I can easily last a full day.

There was a battery drain issue I was having every once in a while when toggling WiFi, but one of the recent OTA updates fixed it. In addition, the cell antenna power usage is falsely reported, so if you're rooted you can apply a patch to fix that as well.

I saw some guy post a gsmarena review showing the note with a ten hour screen on time. So those seem very plausible with its huge a** battery.

From my experience with the original Note, I can definitely see this new one hit those numbers. With similar usage, I only had to charge the device only three times a week. Given what it has and the battery capacity being a bit less than the Razr Maxx, that's pretty good numbers. The LTE radio might be the only thing that could wreak havoc on the battery life if used heavily.

    Why not?
It's the same testing procedure that GSMArena use for every other handset, so it's no more unrealistic than any other battery figures.

And at 3100mAh the battery is second only to the RAZR Maxx.

So, I ended up ordering the Galaxy Nexus. Got my email receipt and UPS tracking number two days ago, but the UPS site still says there's no tracking info even though the email said it should be available within 24 hours. Now it's been almost 72, is that normal?

Either way, I'm planning on switching my number from Virgin Mobile to T-Mobile once I have the actual phone. My girlfriend made this exact switch a few weeks ago, and it took about a week from the time she requested the transfer and subscribed to T-Mobile's service before her Virgin phone deactivated and her new one got her phone number. I guess if that's how long it takes, then it is what it is, but according to the FCC's website, a single-line number transfer like that should take one business day. Is there anything I can do to speed that process up when I do the same? Or is it just different for non-contract service?

    First look : Oh cool!

Second look : OHMAGAD! That is on par on Sony AOSP contribution. That'll finally shut up codeworkx and that git repo may help development on the S3 and perhaps on the Note 2.

BTW HAL, do you think I should get the Note 2 or wait for the Exynos 5 devices?

Google has been catching a lot of flack for not providing tracking information here lately. They've done the same thing with the Nexus 7 orders. :/

    INDEED!

The Note II is the epitome of current Android devices. And even after Exynos 5 devices come out, it will still be a VERY relevant device. Kind of like the original Note. It's going to be getting Note II features. Also, remember that pop-out video player on the Note 2? The OG Note with Dice Player can do that exact thing without breaking a sweat.

Hmmm, so I should get the Note 2. I'll probably get the White version too, for ultimate classiness

But if the HTC Nexus 5" comes out as true, I'll have a hard time deciding between the two... :/

As soon as I get the Note 2, I'll SIM-unlock my GSII, so I can use my Note 2 for travelling as a small tablet, and the GSII as intl. phone.

I just hope xplodwild (CM dev for Note series) gets CM10 on that thing... I would love to have amazing S Pen stuff, but I would also love to have good ol' stock Android.

Because as far as I'm aware, not even the Note 10.1 will get all the S-Pen features of the Note2.

Officially it's just HD sAMOLED - they've given up the 'Plus' moniker.

It's still not *true* non pentile like the GSII, but it finally has a rather normal RGB arrangement.

Samsung finally did everything right with the Note 2. If only they added an aluminium like in the Ativ S, then oh boy...

It has three sub-pixels (red, green and blue) per pixel, so it's not pentile.

At the Note 2 keynote, during the now obligatory "os and future updates" section of Android phone keynotes, Samsung said they'd be bringing features of S note and the S-Pen to existing Galaxy Note customers.

Now, this might be a "certain markets only" thing similar to the Galaxy S's "Value Pack" update but i hope that it's not like that.

Yeah, I know what you're talking about.
But it still has all three sub-pixels for each pixel, so there's nothing about it that's inherently superior or inferior to the standard RGB layout.

It won't get all of them, I can promise you that.
I'm 99.9% certain the original Note's hardware won't support all of them.

It doesn't necessarily need to be a stripe layout to be considered full RGB.

It has one red, green and blue subpixel per pixel.

Well, Samsung recently moved Exynos 4210 to a 32NM node. So far, the only device using it is a Meizu phone... and I think O-DROID may be using it also, though I'm not sure. They're probably looking for a way to use their stock of this SoC.

But I agree, 800x480 on even a midrange device right now is unacceptable. I'm not asking for 1280x720 or anything, but at least a nice qHD. But then you have to remember, Samsung only deals in mass produced resolutions. 800x480, 1280x720 and 1280x800. qHD @ 960x540 was never on the Android roadmap. It's just a few OEM's made that "fad" happen.

First day with my Optimus 4X HD.

It always has a strong signal, it's very smooth, but battery life is pretty sub par. 2-3 hours of screen time, while I get 3.5-4 on my S3.

The color name 'Sapphire Black' sounds contradictory to each other. So is it black or really dark blue? 'Obsidian Black' would have been more appropriate.

We're trying to get support to have dedicated sections of NBR for desktops, tablets, phones, etc created so we won't have to have to have everything crammed into a single thread for these discussions. The idea is to consolidate the forum components of NBR's sister sites with this one since the other sites are all but abandoned. Link in sig to vote or post opinions!

Thinking on getting one as they seem like a fairly nice portable media device however their app store seems fairly barren compared to iOS Android or even Windows marketplace. What exactly are the limitations of what i can and can not sideload from other sources?

What device are you talking about? Kindle? AFAIK you can't sideload anything without rooting and flashing a custom ROM.

No need to be rooted or flash a custom ROM. All you need to do is check an "unknown sources" box in the settings.
