In 8hrs, the max my Note 2 uses while idle is 2-4%...
-
-
Just looking at mine now... 7:40... only 4% idle.
It's at 83% and I've been watching YouTube videos for about 2 hours. -
It's hard to kill this thing
My friend, who also has a Note 2, also shares my opinion. We try and try to kill this thing's battery, and we just can't. I forgot my charger at school today, left the school with 55% a few hours ago, and still at 52%.
I still can't find any negative things about this device. Finally Samsung, finally
-
For those that thought the HTC DNA's 2,020 mAh battery was more than sufficient (do they even exist?), the ZTE Grand S ended up with a more petite 1,780 mAh capacity. On the upside it's only 6.9 mm thick, making it the thinnest phone of its caliber. Curiously, the S4 Pro in it is clocked at 1.7 GHz.

The Note 2 is my secondary phone so I mainly use it as a tablet... the phone it replaced I used to plug in every night so I carried that habit over to the Note 2 but it's always at 80-90%. So instead, I just plug it in the morning while I get ready and it's at 100% by the time I leave the house... which works out because then I only need one microUSB charger for both my phones.
-
Manufacturers never learn.
Yeah, another thing which is great is how fast it charges. Full charge in just around an hour and a half. Pretty amazing! -
Fantastic, now you can burn through a fully charged battery in two hours flat.

Well I don't know if this is a bright note; Google finally charged me 383 for the Nexus 4, which I presume they are going to ship it out tomorrow.
-
They charged me the day it arrived.
On the second one, they waited a few days after it was delivered to charge me.

I know google could probably answer this and there may be better places to ask but I figure you guys will know. I need an app on my phone to vibrate alert every 15 minutes repeatedly until I stop it to remind me to go do something.
-
most reminder apps will allow you to set a repeat.
quick google search brought this up: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.colapps.reminder&hl=en and it seems to have some nice features. I'm sure there are plenty of others out there too. -
Hmmm I have to get the donate version to get that app to do what I need.....

Samsung announces Exynos 5 Octa chip at CES
Exynos 5850? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
^LOL @ Tegra 4.
They had "The Worlds Fastest" for all of a day, maybe less. Qualcomm's new Snapdragons and then this... just LOL @ Tegra. -
If my timeline is correct, nVidia kept the momentum for roughly 11 or 12 hours. They started in the morning and Qualcomm stole their thunder by evening on that same day. I can't see this SoC being in a phone though, the 5450 is probably what we will see in the vast majority of their devices.
-
LOL yeah!
NVidia CEO must be crying in shame right now. My first reaction to the Exynos 8 was "Holy bejezus, it lives!". I really hope they can somehow cram it into a S4 or Note 3, that'd be damn amazing...
First the Snapdragon 800 and now the Exynos 8. nVidia has already lost lol
I'm very interested to see how the Exynos 8 will power against the S800. This year's gonna be quite competitive... -
I disagree, I think this is more likely to appear in phones than the 5450 - this is a 5450 with the ability to use less power, which is key to using an SoC in smaller devices like phones.
That said, I'm a little surprised there wasn't an quad core (2+2) variant of this announced, that would be much better suited for phones IMO.
On a semi-related note, this looks pretty neat:
edit:Being less-powerful doesn't mean they've lost - it didn't stop them shipping Tegra2 and Tegra3 in huge quantities. -
I'm going to have to admit though, after reading more about the octa-core Exynos, I'm not as enthralled as I originally was. The big.LITTLE concept sounds great, but there has yet to be a SoC that has implemented this correctly without issues. One of the biggest issue with the Tegra 3 is that fifth application core processor; its processing phase changeover has been proven to be problematic when determining whether the A9 cores or that A5 core should be doing the processing. Unless this gets an even stronger Mali GPU, I'll stick with the 5250 or 5450 until it's proven to work correctly. Perhaps this might be another opportunity for Samsung to outperform nVidia.
I came home with the RAZR HD in the mailbox. As of now I managed to put CyanogenMod 10 on it within half an hour of powering it on the first time. U.S. people, our carriers are shafting us on Android devices so bad, you can't even tell what a proper Android phone out of the box should be like. Even out of the box, this RAZR comes unbranded from the outside, and the firmware has zero carrier bloat. In order to get ROMs on this phone, it's literally like a Nexus device. Reboot into fastboot, run fast oem unlock command, and boom, Bootloader unlocked. Run fastboot flash recovery blah.img, boom, Custom Recovery is on the phone. Want to get into ClockWorkMod Recovery to flash the latest CyanogenMod ROM? Hold both volume buttons upon powering up, and just like that, you're staring at ClockWorkMod Recovery. Just like a Nexus or non-Verizon Samsung device.
I am done with U.S. Android devices; going forward I will get a device from Rogers, Telus or Fido. Clean, unmolested casing + No carrier bloatware + AT&T LTE = WIN. -
Tegra3 pre-dates the big.LITTLE architecture being developed though.
It's nVidia's own attempts at a companion core, which given they can't get anything else in their SoCs right, was always going to be pants.
Exynos 5 Octo uses one of ARM's own architectures, it'll be a lot better. -
I feel the same way. I have a Fido Razr HD, Rogers Galaxy S3, and earlier today I purchased a Canada Note II.
Note II > RAZR HD > Galaxy S3
The RAZR's only has two flaws are far as I'm concerned. The camera isn't very good, probably Galaxy Nexus level. 1GB of memory isn't always enough. If I've opened my usual apps(Pandora, Tapatalk, Instagram, Facebook, and Gmail), and I open a few tabs in Chrome, one of the previous apps will close. Not bad by any means, and certainly 200% better than HTC Sense phones.
Battery life and efficiency are top notch(Is it just me, or do Samsung devices tend to have high idle battery drain?). I love the stock Android and very good(for AMOLED) screen.
Galaxy S3. Battery life is really its only flaw, it's a gorgeous device.
Note II. Only flaw is its size. It can do anything, but I wish it had stockish Android. -
I should have done this a long time ago.
It's a shame these RAZR's cameras are not up to par with the top dogs out there, but I usually have a good point n' shoot close enough so I seldom use cameras on the phones. The 1 GB of RAM doesn't bother me, as I tend to go from one app straight to the other and usually forget about what I had open.
Not sure what's with the issue on your Galaxy S III's idle drain. Mine was great on battery life...maybe a factory reset or reflashing the firmware might fix it?
The Canadians wanted way too much for their Note II's. I can't find one in white for under $700. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Do you really rate the GS3 under the RAZR HD? Everyone I know who has a GS3 love it, same with Note 2. I just don't want a phone everyone has, and is easy to use.
-
I paid $593 for my Note II. I usually don't spend that much on a phone, but I had $80 in eBay bucks.
The Canadian Note II model numbers are i747M and T999V. Note II model numbers are i317M and T889V. -
That's just my personal rating. For most people, they're equally as nice. Since the RAZR HD is only on Verizon, most people don't even have the option.

My Nexus 4 being delivered today, too bad I can't get it activated til Friday or Saturday as I get off work at 9:30 and I need a Micro-SIM

Just snip it down to size with a pair of scissors.

^This method works just fine. Just make sure you don't cut into the contacts. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Uhh I'll wait 1 day and not hack my sim card into 300 pieces..
-
Yep, definitely wait if you don't feel confident enough to cut it down to exact dimensions. I've seen cases where people will cut them a tad too small and the card falls out of the tray and causes it to bind up in the device. The Nexus 4 definitely uses a SIM tray so you need to absolutely make sure the SIM cards fits without falling out at a slight angle or touch.
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Been so long since I used 4.1....forgot how much I hate it. I wonder if I can go backwards to 4.0 lol. Just awaiting micro sim for tomorrow and this Nexus 4 will be customized!
Whoo I love seeing 1.83 GB RAM... -
You are the only person I'm aware of that prefers ICS over JB. You're on 4.2 by the way, which is about as good as it gets. Even the leaked 4.1.2 firmware made some good performance improvements with the RAZR.
-
Yeah... on my GS3 at least, JB has brought only improvements. And besides, the differences are minimal.
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Mine shipped with 4.1, I'm upgrading to 4.2 now. Where are the buttons to toggle Wifi/Bluetooth/GPS/Sound/Screen Rotate in 4.1/4.2? I am so lost..
-
4.2 put the toggles in the drag-down menu from above. Might be a bit different on the Nexus 4; I'm only familiar with it on the Nexus 7.
-
Really?
The Nexus4 launched with 4.2, it should never have had 4.1. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Indeed. Something odd there.
It was also launched with a version 3.4 kernel, which was part of 4.2 on S4 Pro. The Nexus 7 is still on 3.1. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
3.4 Kernel, updated from 4.1 to 4.2 via an OTA update, took like 10-15 seconds. Reboot is nice. I just wish I had a Micro-sim :\ -

Samsung Galaxy S II Plus unveiled with Jelly Bean, 1.2 GHz dual-core processor | NDTV Gadgets

Still a pretty stout phone almost two years after its release. It may not be a flagship anymore, but it'll make a good midrange or budget handset. Lowering the internal storage down to 8 GB is a pretty odd move though.

H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Still better than anything Tegra. By a LONG shot. Plus it does have external SD storage... -
I've almost decided on my next phone as an xperia Z
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
lol you and your external SD storage, I have to say; U MAD BRO?? Plus ANYTHING is better than Tegra, that's like saying my BMW M3 is faster than your Ford Pinto, of course it will be, it's a Ford Pinto...
I got ~12.9 GB storage space after OS, TBH that is MORE then enough for me, heck my 4 GB microSD card in my Blaze 4G is overkill. I mostly stream videos, so I don't put movies on my phone..
I would love to have an Xperia Z/ZL, but 600+ unlocked is too much, maybe next time if I get a new contract.. -
I do see HAL's point in having external storage though, especially if you do a lot of ROM flashing and tend to accidentally wipe the SD card or experience a catastrophic failure with the phone and have to do a firmware recovery. No way to pull pictures from the camera or music/downloads in such events if internal storage is the only option.
-
I am.
To me, one of the best benefits of Android phones was the ability to have external/expandable storage. Instead of having to pay Apple $100 for each bump in geebees... I can pay a fraction of that to bump up the memory. And it allows me to have multiple cards for more storage or different purposes.
Streaming is okay, but if you have data caps, or NO data connection (like on a plane), it doesn't help. -
Sony posted more in-depth specifications on the new Xperias as well, including supported bands. If they stick to what's on the paper, the ZL has the best shot of having either 3G or LTE support globally, with T-Mobile 3G support in the U.S. and AT&T can use both 3G and LTE. The Z supports AT&T 3G but only European and Asian LTE bands.
Xperia Z Specifications | 5
Xperia ZL Specifications | 5
One of the interesting things I noticed too was the ZL's width and length actually comes out to be a tad smaller than the Galaxy S III.
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
I always keep my pictures uploaded to Imageshack or Insta-gram or Facebook, so losing pictures isn't a huge loss. Like I said, it doesn't bother me, if it did, I wouldn't have bought the Nexus 4. -
We have social lives and we like to record them, so 16GB ain't enough
Not even speaking of my 3gigs and counting of music, and then ROMs as well, backups, etc.
Very good choice! Looks like a great superphone, I wouldn't mind playing with it if it ever arrives to Portugal. -
Not that I'm extremely up-to-date on the latest smartphone processors, but from what I can tell the Tegra isn't all that abysmal. Sure, its power efficiency leaves something to be desired when compared to the newer architectures that Qualcomm and Samsung are using, but performance-wise it seems fairly competitive. The Nexus 7 sure doesn't seem like a laggard.
