Now wait for HTC to add hash tags to their model numbers.

This alone would be a reason for me to get the ATT S4, even though I'm not in the US.

SGH- i337 folks, not L337.
Spent the last two hours trying to restore a friend's HTC Incredible 4G LTE back to stock due to a bricked update, and failing miserably. Tried to use HTC's ROM Update Utility and keep on getting Error 155: Unknown. How the crap am I supposed to know what to do if the utility program doesn't even know what's wrong with it?
Meh. Samsung Recovery = ODIN + tar file. Done. -
It's still LEET for me.
Yup, this is the main buy point for me. Ease of flashing, repair and customization is a must, and giving Samsung's track record, nothing can go wrong even when flashing the wrong thing. But damn, I so want HTC to finally make a Samsung-spec'd phone in a HTC One body. I'd be all over it. -
Hmm...I would have to go with a white HTC Butterfly body and screen, Exynos 5410 SoC from the I9500, rear camera from the Note II and AOSP Jelly Bean.
Speaking of which...
Super Smash Bros. on the I9500? Done. Frame rate locked at 60 FPS from start to finish. Can't wait for the MOGA so the touch screen controls can be disabled.
-
You're right, the Butterfly looks a bit better. Back of the Butterfly + Front of the HTC One + Exynos 5 Octa with Mali 450MP or T604 = Epic win.
How did you get SSB? I want it too, is it a paid thing? -
It's a Nintendo 64 emulator, Mupen64. The game is a ROM image, which is only legal if you own the original copy (My Nintendo 64 died nearly a decade ago, but I've still got the game cart stashed away somewhere in the attic. With the Texas heat, it's probably a pile of plastic and PCB goo by now).
-
I only own some Super Mario games and Donkey Kong for the Nintendo Advance SP. Will it still be legal?
-
I'm actually in the same boat myself. Even in movie mode, there have been a couple of times where I've thought the colours were a bit too vibrant. I'm hoping we'll see developers making a custom colour profile that would tighten the colour accuracy further. For now, the deep blacks and high contrast ratio do not fail to deliver. What does bother me is how the brightness doesn't stay consistent if it's set to the highest level. I believe I saw a reviewer adress this phenomenon by saying it was an adaptive contrast ratio feature — an annoying one that can't be disabled. Maybe my memory of what I read has gone wonky because that doesn't match up with what I'm seeing. I'd describe it as brightness throttling. Fire up a video with colours that pop in MX Player and you'll see the brightness switch back and forth between maximum and a slightly dimmer state once you pass the one minute mark. Thankfully, MX Player does have the option of playing back video at a brightness level that's seperate from what's default and turning it down to 14 or 13, with the highest being 15, seems to take care of the issue but that's not an ideal solution. After all, movie mode can be perceived as being on the dim side if the brightness isn't cranked all the way up. I can't dismiss the possibility of seeing an isolated case or having overlooked something. Such an explanation would be welcomed by me.
I have played around with N64oid in the past and with the extra processing power of the Exynos 5410 making the emulation experience all the more compelling, I might have to get one of those too. I'm guessing you've used both N64oid and Mupen64, with the conclusion being that the latter is superior? -
Yes, you will be able to get a Gameboy emulator and play those games on your phone since you have the original copy. I'm not sure how software policies are in Europe, but with obtaining a copy of games in the U.S., it is legal as long as you own the original copies, or delete it within 24 hours of downloading.
Yeah, I noticed that the brightness level seems to shift slightly even if automatic adjustments are disabled. I'm running mine at 50% and I believe that it may be more of a contrast change rather than the brightness level, because the white level never changes. I'm sure someone will eventually find a way to disable this with the stock firmware as with the Optimus G.
I've been using Mupen64 just because I'm more familiar with it, but regardless the emulation performance is great. I may try the others just to see if they offer something the others don't (Better game compatibility, etc.). It's just nice to be able to play games on your phone without CPU throttling or the casing heating up your hands. -
What boggles my mind is how painfully inconsistent it is. Changes in a given scene can be ever so subtle and it may still be triggered. Go back to the exact same spot in the video/replicate the exact same menu transition and chances are you won't be seeing it the second time around. Maybe I'm making it sound unbearable, which it's not, but I am crossing my fingers for a way to get rid of the feature sooner rather than later.
I see. I'm all with you on the heat part. I should probably familiarise myself with more emulators and maybe keep one or two as backup should certain games prove incompatible. -
Motorola X Phone pics surface: these are real folks! And, we've got more info on codename: Ghost
I know there's not a lot of folks here that likes Motorola, but their handsets are actually quite nice when Verizon isn't screwing them up. -

Thought people might be interested, battery life on the first day with the s4. Haven't removed bloat yet. I drained it and then charged it last night, this is all usage from today
EDIT: Screen was on about 25% brightness all day

Dunno, just noticed that. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how this device fares. With stock Android and some minimal add-ons, it's looking like a slightly bigger and more powerful HTC First.
So another batch of rumor going around lately is Google will be releasing an updated Nexus 4 with official LTE support and a 32 GB option in two weeks at their I/O conference: Is Google really working on a 32GB Nexus 4 with LTE for I/O? | Android and Me -

One of my favorite phones was the Atrix 4G; unfortunately, Motorola never released a flagship to AT&T after that.
Have had my HTC One for several days now; phone is gorgeous. The screen is amazing, even compared to my former HTC One X -
If the Nexus line didn't exist, I'd get a Motorola.

Samsung reacts on Storage accusations of the Galaxy S4 | SamMobile
This is probably the only problem I've got with the S 4. I've got Asphalt 7, Need for Speed and Real Racing 3 installed and I'm down to 3.7 GB remaining. -
Yeah, I noticed the low storage space issue. Good thing I'm not big on games... Why would app to sd be discontinued?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2 -
Google believes Cloud storage is the way of the future, nevermind the fact that the majority of today's data plans are metered. Anyhow, Samsung needs to start trimming it down, nearly 7 GB lost to the firmware is ridiculous.
-
Damn. I played with an S4 at an AT&T store today.
It smokes my Galaxy S Captivate lol. If I wasn't going out of the country for the next 10 months, I would have upgraded one today.

I wish I could figure out why it seems that ROM Manager's mem free presets is closing my alarm app even though I have it whitelisted? The phone struggles with ICS' default memory settings and lags to the point of frustration (and seemingly at random to boot) but I can't miss my finals unlike this past week's morning classes (thanks...phone...)..
As for the XFON....yeah sorry...there's not a snowball's chance in hell I'd buy another Motorola handset. I. Am. Done. -
I want an S4.
I want the i9500 but the price is too high compared to what I can get the i9505 for - ditto for 32GB models, it's too big a jump to justify on the off-chance the limited space is a problem further down the line...

I really enjoy my i337. Once the Verizon one comes out we should have the bootloader unlocked and then we'll see a bunch of custom rooms. So far excellent though. My only beef is the storage thing...

I upgraded to a sprint S4 a few days ago, great display and fast!
some of the bloat is just links to google play with nothing actually installed and can be removed. -
Meh, I don't like it. Seems too much like Metro.

It fits really nice in the phone and it becomes very organized & usable. It's great, I totally recommend it!

You guys that already got the Snapdragon Galaxy S 4, how's the case thermal? Luke warm under load, or OMGw.t.f.BBQ my h4ndZ on F1re!11! à la One X+? -
How is your battery life with this UI? I am noticing a little drain on mine. Perhaps due to all of the active widgets and whatnot?
-
I'm tempted to just revert to the stock ROM...can't find a rom that suits me/isn't buggy

Quick random question.
Has any OEM ever skipped an Android release when officially updating a handset?
The reason I ask is that a few HTC One owners seem to be of the opinion that HTC is deliberately skipping 4.2 with the intention of updating the handset directly to 4.3.
Sounds more like they're fooling themselves IMO but it got me wondering if there was any precedent for such a move. -
No. I have yet so see such a thing. With my old Samsung Epic, it came with donut, and FOREVER to get updated to Froyo and GB. They actually released the Froyo update when everyone else was updating to GB, so naturally we thought they might skip it. We were wrong. OEMs go in order for version release.
-
I think most of them skipped 3.xx.
-
We do not speak its name!
-
Not any recent devices. The Motorola Cliq was officially updated from Cupcake (1.5) to Eclair (2.1), skipping Donut (1.6). That was a dramatic upgrade for that poor handset.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
You've gotten your desserts mixed up. The Epic came with Eclair 2.1, then Froyo 2.2, and GB 2.3... and then a service update with some of the 4.0 stuff, just integrated into Gingerbread.
Yea, because it didn't have a phone UI in the frameworks. Well, it did, but it appeared as a 2.3 UI, instead of the 3.0+ holo UI. -
Why yes I did. All these weird code names for each Android release. Gets confusing what was 2.1, and which was 2.2 or 2.3. It also doesn't help when they jump from 2.2 to 2.3, then 2.3 to 3.0. Then they go from 3.0 to 4.0 but reverse course with JB and make it 4.1. WTH?!?!?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Each version number defines whether the update was major or iterative. 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3 were all iterations with GB being the only one that visually looked any different. 3.0 was a new UI paradigm. 3.1 was bug fixes. 4.0 was a major update, then 4.1 and 4.2 were iterative to Jellybean.

My girlfriend got a Galaxy S 3 today. Sad face as I may have to go to Sprint as T-Mobile is awful around here. Might just go for the iPhone 5 and sell my N4.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Does T-Mobile offer some sort of Airrave or femtocell? Sprint gave me one at no charge cause I get 0 bars where I live. It might be worthwhile to call T-Mobile and see. At least then you will have good cell reception at your place. -
How is AT&T around your area. H2o, Red Pocket, and Net10 are good AT&T MVNOs.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Adunno I only get Edge mostly around here, back roads of New Jersey. Edge is unbearable, mostly 3G here for Sprint but its hella faster than Edge.
AT&T has just as bad reception here, most people here have Sprint.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2 -
I thought you said you have T-Mobile? I know AT&T has an airrave, but they won't give it away for free.
-
I could see them doing it though. It would make sense since there isn't a ton of user facing changes to 4.2 beyond lockscreen widgets iirc...
I thought the Stratosphere was the only US Galaxy S that got the Value Pack upgrade?

I do have T-Mobile but I looked at AT&T first as I wanted to stay on a sim card carrier but it looks impossible right now as no Sim card carrier has beyond 2G/3G where I am at right now.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2 -
T-Mobile has to offer some sort of femtocell. If you make enough of a scene at their store, you can get them to give it to you for free (so long as you stay on T-Mobile's plan).
