Those are for the server market. ARM is fixing to make a big splash in the server market within the next 3 years, and Intel is kind of intimidated by that. Not only is AMD getting into ARM, but when you can cluster cores like you can with ARM with a 64-bit capable architecture, and with SoC's and CPU cores themselves so easy to configure exactly how a customer wants them... Intel ought to be intimidated.
But, I expect we'll see some nice advancements in mobile ARM SoC's that are commoditized by the ARM server market.

Holy mess. The new Google Maps is so much better.

What's funny is he sent that tweet to HTC... wasn't really worried about burning bridges.

[GUIDE] Root for Verizon Galaxy S4 ***Updated 5/23 - 9:30 AM*** - xda-developers
Release date today. I'm getting mine this morning. -
Apparently our training team are going to get training on 'all the new S4 variants' in the next couple of weeks.

Was there an update through Play Store for it?

Not yet.

The S 4 locked bootloader workaround got released today as well, I'm running an AOSP ROM now and the device feels a lot faster and responsive. This is how it should have been out of the box performance-wise.

MFW:
Then I was all like...
-
But...the camera performance may not be as good due to the ImageChip/ImageSense pretty much going unused. (some say that the One running CM isn't as solid camera wise) That and how would it affect features like the IR Blaster?
With more and more phones coming with special hardware features, the manufacturer's custom software might be worth keeping around.
Still, its good that the option for "vanilla" Android on these devices exist.

See, I've been reading that all over the place. The One has an image ISP like every other recent smartphone... HTC just decided to brand it. It's all controlled in kernel source, so I see no reason at all for image quality to be lacking on the One (even though it's 4MP). But the IR blaster is another story. There's no app for the IR blaster in the Play Store that would supplant the universal remote features of Sense. -
True, the image quality should not be affected much on the One. Of course, all those picture filters/modes along with Zoe will go bye-bye with AOSP, but that's the compromise of keeping it all stock. All those sensors in S 4 Google Edition will pretty much stay dormant too; for me, it doesn't matter since I shut off all of those Air View/Smart Stay features right from the get-go anyways.

Yep. Me too. Matter of fact, my Note has had TouchWiz installed for about 2.5hrs total since I've had it. That was only to play with the SPen. -
I think it's cool that the OEMs are offering them, but for the reasons you said, I suspect most people are better off putting something like Nova Launcher Prime on a non-vanilla GS4 or One than buying the vanilla Android version.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
If I had to run Nova launcher on top of Sense (any version), it'd probably drive me to commit a string of felonies. Not even gonna lie. -
Peel.
All the HTC app is is a skinned version of Peel, ditto for Samsung's WatchOn app. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Yes, but the only one in the Play Store is for the Samsung Galaxy Tabs. -
Hmm, that I hadn't realised.
I believe Peel have produced apps for other devices in the past before.
So I suspect that if more devices start to include IR transmitters, then Peel will push out a version for a variety of devices. -
I broke my S4
-
R.I.P. Step's S4. How?
-
I was trying to flash new firmware, it got to the point where it was ready to flash the modem and failed.
Now it refuses to boot. -
So more like "brick" than "broke".
-
It shouldn't brick if the modem fails to flash. Modem is usually after system.img so it's odd it bricked. Tried reflashing with a .PIT?
-
Yeah, I tried that last night.
I downloaded the i9505 PIT and PDA: I9505XXUAMDM/CSC: I9505OXXAMDB firmware from this thread, when I try and flash using those two files, almost immediately a message appears on the handset saying 'Secure check fail: PIT', then a few minutes later Odin decides it's failed. -
I've never flashed the PIT. Have you tried PDA only?
-
Yeah, that's what caused the problems in the first place.
I've got TWRP on there, I can boot into download mode or recovery just fine but I can't seem to get a functional ROM on there, either using Odin or flashing from recovery. -
Flash a separate compatible boot loader first (unlocked off) and then flash a 3-part firmware and a .PIT checked.
If it says Secure Check fail, then the .PIT file isn't original and perhaps modified, thus blocked by the phone's boot loader. -
It was the only PIT I could find, so that seems like it will be an issue.
-
Is fixed now
Well, provided I never have to use wi-fi again... -
Sorry for not replying earlier!
How did you fix? JTAG or another .pit? -
My Mrs found a flashable modem file and a set of instructions which said to use Odin 3.04, disable auto-reboot in Odin, flash the modem, manually reboot straight in download mode, flash the modem again and reboot.
That didn't fix it but then for the hell of it I booted into recovery and wiped /data and cache and suddenly it started working.
It still has a couple of minor issues, namely wi-fi is fooked and it takes forever to boot but it's a heck of a lot better than before. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
^Sounds like you're missing WiFi kernel modules or something.
-
It seems to be a recurring issue for some people.
I may look into it over the weekend, not sure if I can be bothered. -
Sundar Pichai just announced the HTC One Google Edition, $599 unlocked and works with AT&T and T-Mobile LTE!
http://www.engadget.com/2013/05/30/sundar-pichai-confirms-htc-one-with-stock-android/
-
If it's in Black, that's mighty tempting.
-
It may be silver only, we'll have to see. After seeing one in the AT&T store, silver is the better of the two choices for me. Doesn't show fingerprints, grease spots or dust.
-
I do not like silver. The speakers show up too much which disrupts the entire look of the "slab" or "slate" phone. Smudges wipe off. Silver never look nice no matter how hard I clean it
-
Doesn't this render the Developer Edition of the One all but pointless?
Also, I'm guessing it's just a stock photo but I'm curious whether the Google Edition will have a Beats Audio logo. -
Yes and no, I guess it depends on what you want to have software wise. From HTC's blog post, the Google version's bootloader is unlocked in the same fashion as the Nexus devices, so I would have to guess all of HTC's proprietary bootloader and S-ON crap is gone, which would indicate that this phone would not be able to take a HTC RUU to change to a generic One.
-
Seems somewhat inconsistent, the bootloader is all stock yet Beats remains.
-
Beats in this generation of HTC devices is actually more of a hardware implementation than software; the software is basically a retuned EQ that augments the low frequencies. It helps with the front facing speakers somewhat but I had to disable it because it adds way too much bass to consumer headphones that are already emphasized towards low end frequency.

Speed =/= consumption.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Speed is very much connected to consumption. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
If you were stuck on 2G all the time, would you hit anywhere near 3-5 GB a month? Fast speed makes people not realize how much data they burn, my friend with his unlimited Verizon plan burns 19-30 GB a month of data. -
For streaming video that changes quality depending on the speed of your connection, speed definitely ties to consumption.
