Yeah, 18hr talk-time compared to 11hr is quite a difference.

That's because Exynos 5 is using a discrete baseband (Qualcomm MDM9215). Otherwise, it's very close.

I was just about to get a 64GB AT&T One and do the same thing, since Google's doesn't have but 32GB.

I say go for it. Let us know how you like the slightly customized Google Edition!

Finally got around to restoring my Nexus 4, but for some reason the recovery was borked somehow, had to restore in Settings. Anyone have that issue? Was it maybe I upgraded to 4.2.2?

What did you restore it with/to?

Fastboot with a stock Google 4.2.2 image is the best, if you're selling it.

Funny, I just got a regular Optimus G. Nice device, if I do say so myself. LG makes some really nice hardware, but their software... barf. Their version of Settings makes me want to stab the designer with a blunt object.

What's worse is that Samsung is using that same multi-tab menu in the S 4 as well. Chances are you have to go through at least one wrong tab before you find what you're looking for. Why can't we just keep it all on one page...

Couldn't comment on the Nexus 4 but I noticed that with Samsung devices when you reset them that way, it boots into recovery as it restarts, which makes me wonder if all the option in settings does is act as a shortcut to the reset function in recovery.

You have a 56GB microSD card?

That's exactly what it does. I just usually use Fastboot.

LOL. I was speaking more of formatted capacities. But yea, 81 geebees.

I'm utterly disgusted by just how much AT&T bloat is on this phone. It's astounding. I mean, does anybody seriously use that horse crap?! CHARGE ME FOR ATT NAVIGATOR?! No. I'll use Google Nav.

    AT&T Address Book
    AT&T Code Scanner
    AT&T DriveMode
    AT&T FamilyMap
    AT&T Hot Spots
    AT&T Locker
    AT&T Messages
    AT&T Navigator
    AT&T Ready2Go
    AT&T Smart WiFi

I mean seriously. What. The. Hell.

I have an appointment with CM10.1 and CWM later this evening. It should be a pretty productive meeting.

In that case, it should be fairly comprehensive I'd've thought.

That crossed my mind but I figured that if that were the case, you wouldn't've described the handset as 16GB.

I wouldn't mind them so much if AT&T would let me use some of them. Apparently, GoPhone customers are 2nd class citizens who can't access any of the apps that require signing in.

So, in my testing with a BUNCH of different phones... Samsung's TouchWiz and CM10.1 are the only ROM's that have a clean Bluetooth audio output. Every single other ROM/device I've tried suffers from the low bitpool issue. That includes the Nexus devices on a stock ROM, every LG and HTC device I've tried that's not specifically AptX, and every single tablet I've tried. The low bitpool issue completely destroys any treble detail, making it scratchy and often static-y.

It's not really that hard to actually make your bluetooth hardware do what it's capable of doing, especially since almost every phone sold now has Bluetooth 4.0 hardware.

Can you imagine a Folding@Home for android phones, it only activates after your phone is fully charged, say at night and uses wifi to communicate and it monitors the battery temp so no overheating, how many android phones are their in the world, would it be efficient as phones are not that powerful, but there must be a billion of them now.

    Just a thought.

The thing with current phones is that it wouldn't be able to run anywhere near the SoC's peak CPU frequency for longer than maybe 10 minutes. Snapdragon S4 Pro/S600 would go into meltdown. A single Core i5 notebook could probably do 100x+ the work of a single phone in one night, with throttling taken into account. ARM maybe very efficient, but it cannot come close to an i3/i5/i7 at full tilt... not by a LOOOOOOOOONNNGG shot.

There's only two networks that offer it in the UK, one restricts your speeds, prevents tethering and bans P2P.
The other one traffic manages P2P at peak times (3pm-midnight) and that's it, so that's who I've gone with.

so with the current changes of the DMCA that went into place and the ever changing carrier shenanigans. Can you root the note II or GS4 on sprint? I normally don't bother with rooting since trying to root my evo 3D in the past was a total waste. Though with this new toolbar garbage plus all the other things i may just do it this time around.

Changes to the DMCA? I think you're talking about Apple. They're the ones that tried to sue their users for Jailbreaking. The Note II and GS4 are both rootable and unlocked. The Verizon and AT&T GS4 models are bootloader locked, but not encrypted. They've been unlocked by the community.

Also, just rooting is usually pointless IMO. I root to install a custom recovery, then CM. I can't stand OEM skins.

i tried rooting the evo 3D and after the process nothing changes and lost everything...the thing didn't even warn me that everything would be erased -_- If i knew that i wouldn't have even bothered. After that whole ordeal it still wasn't even rooted...stupid HTC garbage. Took me 2 days to get everything back to where it was...minus loosing tons of data but whatever. Never buy an HTC phone again

Rooting should never erase anything. Unlocking the bootloader on HTC phones will erase them, but otherwise...

Most every phone out now has a "Toolkit" that makes it dead simple to root/install a custom recovery. For the Galaxy S phones, it's just follow the prompts (after enabling ADB in settings). I don't know about the latest HTC phones, but there should be something similar.

well i followed the HTC website for unlocking my phone since i had to unlock it for me to root it or whatever. More work than it should be hence why i hate android and phones. Computers do not have all this DRM BS.

Most people's computers don't have quite as much personal information on them. (Notice I said "most".) Don't hate Android for it's security measures. At least most OEM's now offer an unlocking service. Also, to root you don't have to unlock your bootloader. Rooting involves finding a security flaw in Android and exploiting it to push superuser apps/busybox into the /system partition. On some RECENT HTC phones that's been a problem, though, because the kernel initiates a checksum on boot that will erase anything that's not supposed to be in the /system partition.

The DRM BS is sometimes necessary, especially for certain security certifications on mobile devices. HTC will now unlock the bootloaders on their devices, for free, upon request. AT&T and Verizon are the only two carriers in the world that are shipping locked Samsung devices, and even then if you know what you're doing it's very simple to just flash the bootloader (sbl) from another unlocked device, IE flashing the AT&T GS4 with an unlocked bootloader. Unlike Motorola, which has locked and hash-encrypted bootloaders that will never be unlocked on the vast majority of their devices.

The thing to remember about computers is that you can't just take any Windows PC and connect it to an enterprise network and have it function exactly as expected. Unless you have a TPM module, most won't even let you authenticate on their network. Android and iOS are enterprise ready, out of the box. They're able to accept exchange security policies, they have abstraction layers for added security, and most all devices out there now feature per-file encryption and address space layout randomization capabilities.

yea well when i follow the HTC website for unlocking and it does nothing but set back to factory default and whenever i try common root techniques and it still doesn't work i say forget it and screw that brand. I am not googling for hours to find the exact method to unlock and root the evo 3D at that point it is a crap phone if i have to go that far to be able to use FPS app, TI back up, and a few other basic programs that should work without spending several days. Garbage.

    Hey guys, I was wondering.

My birthday is coming soon, so I was thinking of getting (asking my parents rather :D) a tablet for my trips. What good suggestions are there besides the Nexus 10? I want a 10 incher because a 7 incher will be obsolete against my GNote 2.

do you really want a tablet when you already have a phablet? Would you rather have a windows tablet/convertible for a more wide range of usage? If i were you i would consider why you want a tablet and how it would be better than just using your GN2. Having a portable windows computer maybe better. Just my two cents

If your phone was reset to factory after following HTC's procedure, then your bootloader has been unlocked. Since the 2011 HTC lineup, you should have been given a warning page (See paragraph three in the screenshot below) that your user data will be wiped should you accept to unlock it on any device that HTCDev supported.

I took a look at the EVO 3D's development thread and your device appears to be very similar to the Rezound in terms of rooting and obtaining S-OFF. Have you tried running this toolkit? If your bootloader is already unlocked, all you have to do at this point is click the 'SU+Busybox' button.

i'll give it a shot. i tried everyone i could find online and in app store but i'll try this one

just annoys me how every device is different....this is why i hate android. Windows computer to a windows computer is always the same but with android every device is different for almost no good reason. I hate how OEMs take it into their own hands to make the process different for every device or at least between brands.

Don't get me wrong i have issues with PCs too. I guess there is a new thing called AHCI or whatever....wow did that waste several days of my time when i found out my R4 was set up in raid and not AHCI or whatever. Lost everything. Followed someone's guide on NBR too....could have added a thing about AHCI in the process of reinstalling everything on a R4.....not all of us are 100% up on all these stupid little things. I would have never thought going from raid to AHCI would brick a drive. You would figure going back and to raid it would work but nope. Last time i dealt with that stuff was with a P4 with IDE and SATA 1 and AHCI or whatever wasn't around.

BTW it doesn't state that it is going to loose data just says it may....they know it will wipe all data so why not put that in the website instructions too. It will wipe not it might...still a load of crap. Everyone tags their programs with may cause issues or may cause data loss. They know it will wipe it so why not state it!

Does it have to be Android?

If you're getting a 10incher, you might want to consider the new Win8 tablets running Haswell that are coming out.

As for Android, other than the Nexus 10, I would probably consider the Note 10 so you still get that pen input option or one of the Asus ones where you can dock into a keyboard for extra battery life and a notebook-like configuration.

I would wait on the Galaxy Tab 3 10". It looks interesting. I've never worked with an X86 Android platform before, and honestly it intrigues me. Windows on Atom Z-series of any kind is a NO-NO for me, but Android seems to run VERY well on Intel platforms.

Oddly enough, I unlocked my HTC First and it never reset a thing. All my data was perfectly intact. Never even asked me to reset.
