I hope this phone ends up getting rave reviews on the performance just because I'm really tired of people complaining that it doesn't have a 1080p screen and/or a Snapdragon 800 processor.

trolollloololllo -
So while I was on vacation (and using my Galaxy S3 as my main camera), I booted up the phone one time and all of my apps and widgets besides the factory-installed ones were gone. Gone from both the homescreen and the app drawer. I turned the phone off and rebooted and it was back to normal. At the time I was using the stock (TouchWiz) launcher, in power saving mode, with about 30% battery remaining. The phone has never been rooted.
What would cause such behavior? This is concerning to me in a flagship phone that's less than six months old. -
It sounds like the device booted into safe mode, and went back to booting normally when you rebooted.

yea my HTC evo 3D reboots random or blanks and reloads everything....i just come to except those things happen
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
That's definitely not an "expected" behavior. -
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
been doing that for a year now. It'll just go white show HTC and reload everything :/ or just turn off and have to turn it back on. Everything i own never works right...i made a thread about it ranting lol. I swear i noly buy top of the line now and the stuff still flakes out. I buy a WNDR 3700 router and after 3 months the Wifi goes flaky...i'll have a connection but no data goes through on anything wifi (give it 5 mins works again give it an hour stops working again) but if the wire is connected it works. -_- On second router and both did it after 3 months -_- updated firmware and eveything. I just made a cable and have it all hill billyed to my room :/
Every flash light i buy the settings disappear. I have owned 4 or 5 flash lights and 3/4 of them lost 2 out of 5 settings. Need to RMA the newest one...did that after 3rd day :/ -
Are you still running on Android 2.3 or has it been updated to 4.0.4?
-
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
updfated post btw.
it was pushed to android 4.0 or 4.1 a long time ago. did it on 2.3 and 4.whatever if i recall -
If you have the time, I would completely restore the phone with a fresh RUU. No OTA update non-sense and such.
Shipped ROMs -

yea i gave up on that stuff do to how much work it was just to try to root this stupid thing and it never worked. I'll bother with that crap when i upgrade to a new phone. That'll be september i think

I have a strict policy on WiFi routers: Apple Airport ONLY. They cost a bit more, but you never have to worry about them or fool with the settings. They're rock solid, and extremely fast.
Also, your flashlights have settings? I am confus. -
There is a similar debate about this in the comments section of the Engadget article regarding the Surface RT price drop.
Since RT won't run x86 apps, it's basically limited to the Windows App store. So wouldn't it be to better save even more money and just buy an Android tablet for less than $300 because there are more apps available? -
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
look at weiita, nebo, and many other flashlights that have high, med, low, sos, strobe, beacon, and other settings

Yep, all that's happened is that you've accidentally held in the Volume Down key whilst booting, causing the handset to go into Safe Mode.
Absolutely nothing to worry about. -

Google's got a press event setup for next week. New Nexus 7 and Android 4.3?
Google set to host press event July 24th featuring Sundar Pichai
Google's always cooking something up, and the company has our undivided attention when the press gets invited over for a breakfast featuring Sundar Pichai, the man in charge of Chrome and Android. While the invite doesn't indicate anything specific, we're expecting to hear some sort of announcement next Wednesday. We'd love to get some more details on the elusive Android 4.3 or perhaps a new Nexus 7 (heck, a new Nexus anything would be just fine with us), but we'll just have to wait and see what Sundar has in store.Click to expand... -

I wish MotoGoog would withhold the Moto X from Verizon. You know Verizon is going to do something to screw it up. What they did to the Galaxy Nexus owners was just wrong.

Been looking to find a Chathead-style solution that will work for all apps, any ideas?
Tried a ROM with PA's Halo built in, it would be comically bad were the guys behind it not so ridiculously pompous.
Also tried a demo version of an app called Floating Notifications, it was ok but not great.
Anyone know of anything else? -

Paranoid Android Brings Chat Head-Style Multitasking to Nexus Devices
is this it? new to me...i dont find it useful personally but i can see why others love it -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
So, the HTC One Mini = HTC First in an aluminum shell with a smaller battery and an "ultrapixel" camera that's more or less probably on-par with the 5MP First.
I just don't know. There's two things they could have done with the Mini to truly make it a smaller flagship... 2GB of RAM and at least a 2000mAh battery which is what their MIDRANGE device features. I guess they had to have somewhere to put all those HTC First parts though.
I'm just about tired of the "ultrapixel" crap. -

It's really poorly implemented, especially after they have the cheek to go on about how their multi-tasking solution is far better than any others. -
The Camera is supposed to be the same as the regular One but missing OIS. My concerns with it is that as you mentioned, it's basically HTC finding something to cram all the leftover First PCBs in. The Snapdragon 400 isn't bad, but I would have liked to see the clock speed bumped up to 1.7GHz and while it's nice to see BoomSound in a smaller form factor, I suspect the Beats hardware amplifiers are missing.H.A.L. 9000 said: ↑So, the HTC One Mini = HTC First in an aluminum shell with a smaller battery and an "ultrapixel" camera that's more or less probably on-par with the 5MP First.

From what I've seen so far... Galaxy S4 Mini >> HTC One Mini. It makes fewer tradeoffs. Plus, it probably carries the same camera sensor that the GS3/NoteII had, which is a much better sensor than the "ultrapixel" sensor. For all the low-light shots I take, the flash always seems to do just fine. Obviously, that's not everyone's opinion, but I'll bet most people would go for the better daytime shots with the 8MP GS4 Mini.

I tried a ROM once, not knowing that it's default launcher was PIE. It will never be on my phone again. I feel the same way about HALO. You can't just mix and match UI ethos. You can't mix PIE/HALO with traditional Android UI and expect everything to mesh. If you want to change the UI... CHANGE THE ENTIRE UI.Johnny T said: ↑It really is poorly implemented. Agreed, but it is using the same RGB matrix as the Note II, which should be pretty great IRL. hey guys and gals i need your help so i am thinking of switching to the EPER program on sprint from my current contract and i wanted your guy's advice on which phones you think are better or what are the pros and cons of each?
LG Optimus G™ (free on sprint)
Samsung GS4 $200 (buy one get one)
HTC One® ($199)
Whats the difference from the S4 Pro and S600 SOC both are quad core.
I also know one has the 1080p and one has like a 768p screen. So that i know.
As much as i despise HTC they seem to have a better build quality and a few perks and i am open to ideas. Also the GS3 wins right now with the BOGO in that aspect.
Also apple is out of course ^^ -

32GB vs 16gb
actually built well -_- stupid samsung
speakers
camera doesn't ereally bother me (i have an RX100)
but than i say this....non removeable battery -_- *tactical face palm*
I don't know if i can go with a single battery. I have 3 batteries for my EVO 3D i haven't used them in a while but when i had a job and moved around a lot i always carried extra batteries. I guess i can just keep spare external charges but come on!!!
Also what happens when the cell goes bad -_- Those batteries are only good for 300-500 charges -_- that is 1-2 years -_- Than 50% capacity? #@$^@#$^ Blarg! are the batteries soldered in? I don't mind ripping it apart to replace it in a year if i have too. -

The main differences in S600 and S4 Pro are CPU architecture enhancements and higher CPU/GPU clocks. S600 is also fab'd on a more mature process, meaning it performs better with less heat at those higher clocks. One other thing is that S600 supports LP-DDR3 RAM, which the Galaxy S4 packs (800Mhz). The One packs LP-DDR2 1066. -

Everyone whines about the "build quality"... I've yet to have a problem with Samsung's build quality. It's not metal, but it's far from bad. There's no body flex, everything fits together perfectly, and you can drop it and not dent it. But who's going to have a GS4 with no case anyway?HopelesslyFaithful said: ↑crap read above...just noticed one has no SD card...well not the one definately will probably be out -_- i really want a good build quality and SD card :/ and removable battery 3 things!!!!Click to expand... -
Yep... people mix up build quality with materials and even in that, since when was polycarbonate an inferior material? I actually prefer it as it's light, durable and more scratch resistant.

Anyways the note II is also an options for me but i am reluctant due to the older SOC. what are the differences from let us say a S600 vs whatever the note II has. I know it has only a 720p screen but i dont really see to much of an issue with it being a far more productive device with the larger screen
The optimis g is out for sure. I guess the sprint one doesn't even come with an SD card? AT&T model only so that is completely out.
So i have:
GS4
HTC one
Note II
Also the GS4 seemed better in quality than i remember the GS3 being when i was at sprint store. So build quality is whatever to me. I still prefer a more solid phone but meh whatever.
I like the HTC one but the lack of SD and removable battery bothers me but i might manage.
The GS4 wins on many accounts minus not as good of speakers which i am a big fan of.
The note II has older SOC and 720p but what bothers me is the SOC. Anyone got a comparison for me?
Screen SAMOLED+ vs SLCD...i personally like the SLCD in color more from my brief experience at the store but what troubled me was everyone says OLED/AMOLED type screen have near 0 response times. So they would have almost no ghosting. I can positively say hog wash! I noticed barely any less ghosting on the AMOLED+ screen vs the SLCD. Granted i could tell it was a little better but nothing game changer which really was a let down. That alone could have sold me. I hate ghosting with a passion, because whenver you drag anything everything blurs and it bugs me and there was only a slight advantage on the AMOLED+ :/
Also this time around on a phone i would love to just load a custom rom unless you guy's think i shouldn't. Also if i load a custom rom what is the difference and which should i get? or what ones should i look into?
Also is the difference with rooting an HTC phone vs a samsung phone any different? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
The Note II is great. But it only places in the bottom rung for synthetic GPU benchmarks. Reason being that the Mali-400 Quad-core GPU that it uses isn't a unified shader architecture. It has a great fill rate, but actual shading operations are really low, compared to the Adreno 320/330 in newer devices. Adreno 320/330 mops the floor with Mali-400 MP4 in benchmarks, but if you're not running benchmarks it still performs fine in all the games I ran on it. Epic Citadel even ran decently... about 47FPS, if I remember correctly. Certainly not bad. Also, Exynos 4412 has an IMPECCABLE CPU architecture. Samsung did some tweaks on the stock ARM Cortex A9 arch, and it shows. The Note II's CPU benches score up there with S4 Pro, sometimes beating it.HopelesslyFaithful said: ↑li polymer still uses lico2 or whatever material, which if i remember correctly only have 300 or so charges til it reaches 80% so effective life is 500 or so charges. Overall, if you really like the Note II, go for it. It's certainly not a bad device, plus it has some of the best discrete parts you can find in a phone. Wolfson audio, Wacom digitizer, Samsung HD SuperAMOLED in an RGB config, fast high quality NAND, and a pretty decently loud speaker.
And yes, AMOLED has insane contrast levels and pixel response times. Samsung's mDNIe that's in use on the GS4, though, causes a bit of a smearing sometimes if you're really looking for it. On AOSP software with mDNIe disabled, it's pretty much instant pixel response times.
And yes, rooting and doing anything with flashing/modding is much easier on Samsung phones. -
Am I the only one surprised by the high amount of Galaxy Mega phones seen in the hands of the masses? I have to wonder what its global sales figure looks like. On an unrelated note, I've taken over a thousand photos with my GS4 now and I can't deny that I like what I see. Image stabilisation would have made me less reluctant to shoot video with it but I know it's no Lumia 1020 so I won't complain.
@HopelesslyFaithful: Not sure if you're in a hurry to upgrade but the LG G2 is scheduled to launch on August 7th. Time will tell if you need to be into ROM flashing to truly enjoy the phone. -
I'm curious how long it actually takes for AT&T/Sprint to actually pick it up. The original Optimus G was announced back in September but the U.S. carriers didn't get it until almost three months later.Convel said: ↑@HopelesslyFaithful: Not sure if you're in a hurry to upgrade but the LG G2 is scheduled to launch on August 7th.
