No better or worse than Samsung at this point. Their UI has gotten much more consistent and optimized with the Jelly Bean updates (The Optimus 4X HD's JB was a lot better than its original ICS firmware, so was the Optimus G's). If you want to see poor UI implementations, take a look at Lenovo or BLU Android phones.

LG G2 Verizon has no FM radio even though spec say it does... Grrr.
-
For pretty much all phones that have FM radio internationally, the antenna is removed for US models. Probably some stupid licensing thing, as usual.
-
FM Radio?! What's that? Is that what came after CDMA radio? Must be old because phones are now using LTE radios.
-
It's the cutting-edge technology that is currently delivering a crippling blow to the media dominance of American Bandstand. Golly!
-
American Bandstand? Wasn't that Civil War era? If so, they'd have been using AM radios then, yes?
-
AM - FM. No G and 0 G. It's catchy, I like it.
In any event, MidnightSun is not that far off.
Congress to mandate FM radio receivers in all cell phones? | Android Central
OEMs are purposely removing the FM radio functionality as a way to thumb their noses at the RIAA and NAB. Both orgs tried to use Congress to give the CEA and OEMs the old in-out so they could charge the Radio stations and the CEA for licensing. The mandate did not pass and the OEMs are making sure to return the favor to the RIAA and NAB for trying to bend them over a barrel. -

Leak shows specs of upcoming Sony Xperia Z2 - NotebookCheck.net News
i am calling hog wash that there will be a 4k screen in this phone. -
Continuing to increase pixel counts when we already can't see individual pixels is not only pointless, but counterproductive. It's for spec-sheet advertising, not improving user experience.
-
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
doesn't that cost a crap ton? i mean seriously....when will we see a decent res in laptops -_- -
It's just another stupid 'spec sheet' made up by someone who doesn't know the first thing about what they're talking about, so they take existing specs and make the numbers bigger.
Snapdragon 1200 - doesn't exist.
4K screen - hasn't even made it into laptops yet (not to mention Sony haven't even moved past fullHD yet). Plus, the quoted pixel density is nowhere near accurate for that size and resolution of panel.
It's not only fake, it's a lazy fake at that.Mitlov and HopelesslyFaithful like this. -
Vaio Fit 15 Multi-Flip has a 2880x1620 screen. But except for that, I agree with 100% of what you said.
-
What's that?
Also, that's one heck of a weird resolution. -
A 15" convertible; the video below shows how the dual hinge works. It's resolution is reported by some venues as 2880x1600; some as 2880x1620. Not sure which is correct.
The new Vaio Flip lineup: the 13 and 14" models get FHD; the 15" gets whatever you call that next step up.

Doesn't seem to stop companies.
-
I know it doesn't, and I know it does help increase sales, but it's still silly. And it annoys me when a screen with far higher pixel density than I could notice in day-to-day use results in perceptibly-lower frame rates or perceptibly-lower battery life.
-
Perceptible or not is down to the user, however, just as in FHD (and beyond) displays for laptops. To me, there's an immediately perceptible improvement in the GS4's screen over the GS3. I can't comment on beyond 1080p, as we haven't yet seen that in smartphones. For my next phone (not that I'll need to upgrade my GS3 anytime soon), I'd want a 4.7-5.0" 1080p display, among other improvements.

i am planning on getting the note 3 since i haven't been able to switch accounts yet due to some technical difficult but i can switch now but i'll might as well wait til the note 3 comes out next month. Assuming i find the size of the note 3 isn't too big.

Flashed CyanogenMod 10.1 on my Galaxy S3 yesterday... and it's great! I can't believe I didn't do it sooner. I do miss Smart Stay, but it's a small sacrifice in the grand scheme of things.
I do have one problem though... the phone is no longer recognizing my microUSB-USB adapter and USB drive. It worked on the stock (rooted) Samsung software, and on my dad's Note 2 as well. Any idea what could be the problem?
If you're fine with the Note 2's size, then the Note 3's size will not be a problem. They're within a millimeter of each other in every dimension, and I believe the Note 3 is thinner and lighter as well. -
Try this. Worked on my RAZR
enter in terminal emulator the following and press enter after each line.
after reboot when you plug in your phone usb mass storage should work !Code:su setprop persist.sys.usb.config mass_storage reboot

@DR650SE: Thanks for the suggestion. That's regarding the interface between the phone and computer though, isn't it? My computer detects the phone perfectly fine (and MTP is good enough for my needs), it's that my phone can't access a flash drive plugged in through a microUSB-USB adapter.
-
Ohhh, your right.
Im coming off 18 hours of work. I better get some sleep.
. Not sure how to solve that as I've never used the adaptor.

Does anyone else find that "google services" takes up as much battery life as "Android OS" on their battery usage screen? I don't even know exactly what that's doing, as I don't even really use Google services on a daily basis (I may look something up once or twice per day on Google, and may jot down a grocery list on Keep, but I don't use Gmail, Play Music, Play Movies, etc).
-
Do you have Google Now enabled?
Sent from my iPhone -
Google Now doesn't do too much. On my phone it was currents sitting around and wasting battery even though I never used it...
-
I previously had Google Now enabled, but I disabled it a few weeks ago. It never told me anything useful. It would tell me driving time to home when I was already at home (surprise, it's zero minutes); it would tell me that an airplane flight with flight identifier "FIT" had landed when I was researching the Vaio Fit lineup. Stuff like that.

WHOA!!! I guess all of sprints towers are tri-band ready but won't be turned on for another month or two
I am really curious on what phones are triband. I might as well wait a little longer would be dumb to buy a new phone and not have triband. No one seems to know for sure if the note 3 is tri-band or not. S4 is supposed to be re-released this month or next month i guess
Thoughts? Anyone hear about this before?

That's because Google Play Services is a far larger component of Android than most realize. It's Google's end run around carriers and manufacturers being slow/nonexistant with Android updates...Google can enable even Gingerbread and Froyo devices to get new features through Play Services like remote lock, locate, and wipe.
Google Play Services gives control of Android back to Google | Android Central
Don't stop the Play Services app from running or a lot of Google apps on your device will break.HopelesslyFaithful likes this. -

Has anyone used or had an experience with the Lenovo K900? Looks oso beautiful except for the Atom inside part.
-
It looks pretty cool to me. Large battery, 1080P screen, 2GB of ram, and support for AT&T and T-Mobile 4G.

Gotcha...so long as it's a core part of Android that's set aside separately for various technical or political reasons, I won't touch it. I was just afraid that Google Now was sucking my juice even though I had already turned it off.
-
You don't need Google anything on your phone for it to run perfectly fine....
-
But while I don't use Gmail, Calendar, Google Drive, Play Music, Play Movies, Play Books, or Google Now, I do use a few Google services (Play Store, Maps, Search, and Keep), so if disabling "Google Services" is going to break everything Google, that doesn't work for me.

Turn off Android Device Manager's "Remotely locate this device". I mean, if you use the feature... leave it on. But if you don't, and don't anticipate you will, it's just using battery.
LOL. Run Android with no GApps. It's almost useless, unless you want to buy all your core apps from Amazon's app store. Sure, it'll run, but what would be it's use? -
The Samsung Galaxy Mega has, without fanfare, appeared on US Cellular's website. I don't quite understand who is the target market for a 6.3", 720p, $150-with-a-plan smartphone.

Mostly true. Google.com is not technically on my phone, it's just the browsers homepage.

Yes, it is. com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox.apk
Unless you've modified your /system partition, you have a distilled google.com in your phone.

That seem counter intuitive to Android turning off Google services...might as well turn off your phone to save more power. -
2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 SoC, 3GB LP-DDR3, 5-inch 1080p IGZO display, 3,300 mAh battery, 64GB eMMC (expandable), IP57 certification, and dual 13MP rear-facing cameras, all housed in a brushed metal body... for $495 unlocked including worldwide shipping. Meet the QSAlpha Quasar IV. Granted, it will run you $795 if you decide to buy it when it's actually available and its Android 4.3 flavour is more than just heavily skinned to accommodate the encryption layer.

Oh, no. You misunderstand me. I don't use the Google Search apk. I just use Google.com in my Dolphin Browser. I've never used the Google quick search box.

So, the LG G2 has Snapdragon 800 with a Wolfson WM5110 DAC. Dream realized.

Will buy.DR650SE likes this. -
Wolfson
woot! Woot! I have one one my Galaxy S Captivate, and iPod 5.5G
sounds awesome. In the next few weeks I'm having the Wolfson chip on my iPod directly soldered to the line out for much better audio the being filtered through all the cheap apple crap between the Wolfson and headphone jack.
Running it then through a Fiio E17 amp. Should sound great.
May be picking up the LG when I get home unless other phones have a Wolfson chip.

Great to hear that LG kept its word on high quality audio output but I thought your primary set of cans were wireless? Speaking of which, Phiaton's MS 530s sound like a compelling product on paper but I have no idea what their sound signature is like since I've never tried anything made by them. I could use some portable headphones that work well when travelling.

H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
My AE2's can be wired or wireless. I only use the wireless part when I really need it. The MontBlanc and a cord are MUCH better than the little BT dongle. Plus, regular headphone output is enough to drive my HD518's. -
And then you'll throw a ton of EQ all over it and listen with a pair of cans that'll reveal no difference between codecs, making it moot
On a related note, does anyone know how I can see whether I'm establishing an apt-x connection on 4.2.2? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Well, if you're speaking in elitist terms... then no, you're still wrong. There is a massive difference in the WCD9310 and ANY Wolfson DAC, even with the AE2's. But I'll still EQ it, yes.
As for the APT-X thing... not that I know of, unless you want to bring up a debug line and watch the negotiation take place. -
Sure, sure.
