In retrospect, I think I had misinterpreted "smooth" as meaning "glossy" when it just meant "not soft-touch."

So the Nexus 4 with KitKat puts up some damn good battery life, compared to what it was with early Jellybean builds. I'm getting through a whole day with 3.5-4 hours of screen on time and I'll still have ~20% when I get home. That's pretty good for a 2100mAh battery. I'm guessing Google messed with core logic and started shutting off cores a bit more quickly than they were... and it's still glassy smooth.
If anyone reading this thread is looking for the absolute best unlocked phone for the price... Nexus 4. Right now. -
I'm in the camp that white phones are... uh... feminine.
Maybe because that's the color my sigoth always gets... and the color that I always see women with. Whenever one of my coworkers gets a white smartphone... I ask if it's a gift for their mom.
Yes... I'm mean. -
I see what you mean.

But for a previous version to look better than it's successor... I can't really blame them.
-
So CyanogenMod now has their user-friendly installation app on the Play Store. So should I go ahead and give my GS3 the CyanogenMod treatment? Why or why not? Convince me.
-
And just what's the problem with a pink phone!?!?!?!?
I love my pink phone!

Remove Samsung's bloated UI's. CyanogenMod brings you close to stock Android. Your phone will be MUCH more responsive.DR650SE likes this. -
IMO the Nexus 4 is the most beautiful phone LG has ever done. It's in a way even better than the HTC One, that white back is so elegant.
-
After spending hours comparing the Note 3, Nexus 5, Google Edition S4 & One, I finally purchased a Z Ultra.

No LTE radio kinda stings, perhaps it is like the Nexus 4, has a LTE radio but it is locked.

It's giving me the following error when I follow the instructions (this is on my PC, on the companion software, after the phone has told me to plug it into the PC and run the PC companion software), even though my device is supported and my network connection is totally fine:

Nice and very tempting. But I wonder how it will hold up after a year. I've already have experiences with two "entry" level phones, and although not entirely bad, but I would have preferred something more.Mitlov said: ↑Meet the Moto G, which offers a 4.5" 720x1280 screen, a Snapdragon 400, 1 gb of RAM, and the same refined, minimalist skin as the Moto X for a jaw-dropping $179 unlocked.

Wait for a Nokia Lumia 929 to come out, then wait a year and buy it cheaper, or grab this phone. There is also a third and fourth options, both non-smartphone related
.
EDIT: will ignore this phone. Max 16GB and no micro SD. No thanks... -

Im actually thinking on getting that one ($650) or for almost double the price the moto x ($1274)Mitlov said: ↑Meet the Moto G, which offers a 4.5" 720x1280 screen, a Snapdragon 400, 1 gb of RAM, and the same refined, minimalist skin as the Moto X for a jaw-dropping $179 unlocked.

I only have available here the nexus 4, and Im not going to buy any samsung phone. Sony phones available in the similar price range are crap, and that also goes for the LG ones
decisions decisions, my dumb phone is annoying me right now and Im seriously thinking of letting it be my back up phone -
Are those prices really in USD and not BRL? For that kind of money, can't you import the phone you want the most or will the customs in Brazil make it an unfeasible option?Karamazovmm said: ↑Im actually thinking on getting that one ($650) or for almost double the price the moto x ($1274)Click to expand...

My final thoughts on the CyanogenMod installer app after wasting a couple hours on it (and asking around on forums) and eventually giving up on the idea:
I just find it incredibly ironic that they build this entire installer for people who don't know how to root their phone or use a command line, then in their FAQ for the installer they repeatedly tell people to back up their phone before running the installer...and you need to manually root your phone and use the command line to back the phone up.

Why can't you just go to fastboot and root it from there? Also if you have a GS3, you should be able to use Odin, Samsung's powerful software for flashing roms, PIT files for any Samsung device, minus Nexus devices.

those prices are in BRL, that is still stupidly expensive for something that will last 2 years tops. and thats why Im really inclined on going for the G. Importing a phone is something really complicated, for example one friend of mine imported a iphone 5, she paid 2k for it when the currency exchange was 2-1, now its 2.3-1Convel said: ↑Are those prices really in USD and not BRL? although I never bought a high end phone, only mid and entry level due to that exact thinking (too much money for such a short life product), thus I was really thinking of going with the X
Im going to take a look with my carrier to see if I can get one with discount, those are unlocked prices after all. -

took a look with my carrier, there is no subsidy, not even a single cent off. I will basically pay the 1500 asking price that is the standard retail price launch

It does show, too, how much Qualcomm has improved their DACs. The WCD9320 is actually pretty nice. -

The Note II really needs a 3.4 kernel.
-
Or 3.10. Not even the official 4.3 Note 2 version has the 3.4 kernel, it's 3.0.31 if I'm not mistaken.H.A.L. 9000 said: ↑The Note II really needs a 3.4 kernel.Click to expand...

It's not 'bad'. It's Beats or whatever the 'enhancement' on the handset is. The tester didn't turn if off (and using RMAA in this day and age? What did he use as his test soundcard? A Sound Blaster?).H.A.L. 9000 said: ↑Had a lot of free time today, so was wandering around GSMArena...

And the accuracy of playback / sound quality is not what that graph shows. It shows the frequency response, which in itself is subject to variations. -
Just received a Note 2 for free from my brother in law. It may or may not be having some issues with the digitizer (he said it was acting up. it wouldn't let him use his fingers on it, but the s-pen works fine).
after a full reset everything seems to be fine. I'll play around with it for a few days to see. might end up selling for some extra cash.hizzaah likes this. -

It's a 1y manufacturer warranty. Launch in US was Sept 12 so you'd be out of luck. I'm not sure if there's a way to check through the Samsung site, might have to call.. Or if it is under warranty he should be able to get it replaced with a refurbished through his carrierTree_Burner said: ↑He got it at launch. Not sure if it's under warranty or not. Sell it as-is on eBay for parts..

Samsung have a system called GSPN which allows them to check the warranty status for handsets without proof of purchase, however without proof of purchase to confirm when the end user took possession of the handset, the start date for the warranty defaults to the date the handset was shipped by Samsung.hizzaah said: ↑It's a 1y manufacturer warranty. When you disable Beats processing, it's still not a flat freq line.Vogelbung said: ↑It's not 'bad'. It's Beats or whatever the 'enhancement' on the handset is. The tester didn't turn if off (and using RMAA in this day and age? What did he use as his test soundcard? A Sound Blaster?).

They state quite clearly: "Beats audio can't be switched off"
I also had a look at their testing rig. If you can call it that.
