I did a brief Google search for dial codes for the Intercept, and I found a couple huge lists, but only two or three that actually do anything, and they all ask me for an "MSL code".
Unbelievably so, yeah. I'm not much of a programmer, but I really can't comprehend how nothing but an OS update can make the phone this different.

H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Yea, the MSL is the code required to unlock the debug codes. Apparently there's an app on the market that can retrieve that code for you.
It probably updated your radio firmware version as well as your OS version. New radio firmwares can do wonders for network issues.
Sidenote:
Anyone else got some speedtest screenshots? This is about routine for our HSPA networks... Oddly enough:
-
If you posted a photo there, I'm not seeing it.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Interesting. It's showing on my other devices that aren't even logged in.
-
Curious.
Are your images hosted on a secure (https) website by any chance?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Nope. Just Picasa... on my public folder. Maybe it's your ad-free plug-in? -
It is https.

I have a data cap, so im not running another, but here's mine from a few days ago
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Interesting. So it is. Hmm..
EDIT: Changed to Dropbox. Not secure anymore!
-
That would explain it.
I'm tethering with the free version of PDAnet, which blocks https. It's either that or shell out $30 for the full version.
Jesus H. Christ, that's literally faster than my home cable internet used to be when I had it...I never saw it above 4M down/700k up. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Progress. It's a beautiful thing isn't it?! -
It's a depressing thing, knowing I'll never have that
-
The sad thing is its over 4x as fast as my home internet
dont feel bad XD
-
I don't even have home internet anymore
-
Yeah if i had unlimited data i wouldnt be using mine
-
If I had a choice, I'd still have cable internet at home, but I stopped because I could no longer afford it. If Virgin Mobile didn't have unlimited data for $25 a month, I wouldn't even have that.
-
I'm firmly planted with the rest of my family on our Sprint family plan. It's not the fastest carrier, nor do they have the best phones, but we've got 5/5 lines active, and with our discount (27%) we pay about $130/mo for unlimited everything. (We share 3000 minutes I think, but it's all free mobile to mobile, and free nights/weekends starting at 7pm - we don't even get close to cap). So if you break it down, it's close to $25-$30 per line, per month. Pretty sweet deal. Especially considering how much data I can go through. I have Pandora running pretty much 24/7 at work every day, and I'm always fiddling with some new app, or browsing online.
-
That's not bad at all.
I have nobody to share a plan with, though, and my Virgin Mobile (Sprint network) plan is pretty much perfect for me: $25 a month for unlimited data and messaging, and 300 minutes. There are no free in-network, night or weekend minutes, but I've never had trouble staying within 300 a month; I just don't talk much.
And the best part (to me, anyway) is that it's no-contract, so if I can't afford to pay one month, I'll just got without phone service or internet for that month, up to 90 days before your number is erased, I believe. And you can restart a plan month anytime you like, if you run out of minutes before the month is up, or if you didn't make a payment and you come across money to cover it halfway through the month. -
*clears throat*
Well, I pay...
I get ~2Mbps down via T-Mobile here in the UK.
I get 4-5Mbps via my home broadband connection. If there was cable in the area though, I'd be using that, I know it seems stupid but I would gladly shell out for a more reliable connection than ADSL. -
Yeah, the whole "No contract" thing makes much more sense to me, but fiscally, it's irresponsible for me to get out of our plan now, due to the savings we have each month for the amount of minutes I can, and potentially do use. I like the Sprint network though in my area. Pretty happy overall. (Which seems rare with cell companies)
Lol, as do I, I just thought it better to have everyone pitch in on my plan, rather than us all pay seperately.
Cable is definitely preferred, I have that at home personally, but my service isn't always up to snuff

Any recommendations for a keyboard specifically for landscape use?
I do like the customisability of Ultra Keyboard but there are a couple of little quirks which are making me consider looking elsewhere... -
Smart Keyboard Pro
You can edit the key height which helps in landscape and also turn off Full Screen if you want
-
Ah, turning off full screen fixed the problem to a degree...
It turns out Ultra Keyboard does that too
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Well, anyone with an i9000.... official Gingerbread is out! XXJVB
-
Hopefully that means the rest of the Galaxy S's will get it soon too
or it should at least make the ports better until then.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
As soon as Samsung drops source, ports will get 9000x better.
-
And here I am with my Intercept just getting FroYo.
-
You need to root that thing so you can install custom ROM's and you'd have it already
maybe even Gingerbread
-
Virgin Mobile voids your warranty if you root, so if anything goes wrong you're SOL. And I've already had to replace this phone once, and I'd like to still have the ability to do that if needed, at least until my warranty expires on its own anyway, which will be this November.
I've heard good things about rooting and custom ROM's (although apparently there's really nothing really good for the Intercept), but I really can't afford a replacement phone right now. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Indeed. Rooting Android and using custom ROMs is part of the fun of buying into Android... -from a geek..lol.
I just ordered me an i9000 with a heafty discount from my Samsung rep.
-
Gah, the way Android handles wallpapers is a 4-letter word
Does anyone here use WidgetLocker?
I'm struggling to edit the lock-screen layout so that the widgets line up with my homescreen - any tips would be more than welcome...
Forgive my nosiness but how much is 'hefty'? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
$250 off.
I got it for $200.
-
That's one heck of a discount.
Send that Samsung rep my way
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Lol. He's a good rep, believe me. He keeps us flush with Samsung goodies. I just hope he stays here, as I hear most reps aren't that generous. -
I've never met my Samsung rep.
Or the Nokia one.
I met someone from HTC once but I'm not sure he was a proper rep.
We used to have a WinMo rep come in very occasionally, back when it was WinMo 6.0 - she'd show off the likes of an HTC Touch then say 'of course, the way the homescreen looks is all down to HTC, nothing to do with us'.
She had kind of a pointless job...
The Motorola guy has been in twice, I think, in the past 6 months but both times when I've not been in.
The LG and Blackberry ones are in fairly regularly.
They're both nice guys, albeit not with much to say.
And then there's the SE rep(s).
The old one quit because she was due to get fired because she wasn't doing her job properly and was getting store managers to cover for her.
The new one seems to be a lot better - he got me an Arc
On an altogether different note, I cracked it - the way in which Android ( or LauncherPro anyway) rotates wallpapers from portrait to landscape.
What a faff... -
Heh.......yeah my home screen does not look right at all in landscape mode. I am using widget locker too!
-
Johnny's back!
I spent two hours playing "Drag Racing" yesterday before going to sleep. This game is pretty addictive.
@HAL: Why would you want another phone O_O -
When you say your homescreen doesn't look right, in what sense?
As for WidgetLocker, any tips on getting widgets to line up with the homescreen? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
LOL. I've just sold my Nexus S, and I wanted a World-spec GT-i9000. I'm getting a SGS II sometime in the next few months, and then I'll likely sell off my Captivates.
It's just the cycle... buy, new-release, sell old, buy new, new-release...
And hello Mr. Johnny T!! Glad to see you back!! -
Awww, the SGS II looks so damn sexy..
Sad thing I still have 29 months to go with my I9000
-
I use a live wallpaper call wp clock, and it goes pretty much full screen in landscape mode, thus the icons blocks the screen. And by using 190dpi, my widgets and oddly shaped icons that was tailored to fit perfectly in portrait is in shambles in landscape.
The problem with widgets not lining up in widget locker is because of the extra space you are getting without the launcher bar (homescreen), therefore the spacing is more spread out. Personally I keep the items in my lock/home screen separate. You have tried settings => look & feel => layout I assume? -
Yeah, I'd already tried that.
I don't know what's changed but suddenly I seem to be able to line them up perfectly ( or close enough I can't see the difference).
edit: damnit, nope, gone again...
Now I just need to work out how to install a custom theme... -
If its a zip just flash it in Clockwork (without wiping), if its a Metamorph just install Metamorph through the market and apply the theme in there.
-
No ClockworkMod for the Arc yet.
Does Metamorph require root access? -
Yes it does unfortunately.
-
Damn that sucks.
I guess launcher themes are your only option right now then. -
No root for the Arc yet either...
It should be soon, the bootloader's unlocked and people are working on it.
But not quite yet.
The big problem though is trying to line up the widgets on the lock screen to the ones on the homepage.
That's really bugging me. -
Weird that the bootloader is unlocked but yet there isnt root yet
-
SE are providing an official unlocking service for the bootloader.
-
Oh
O_O
i didnt know that (or expect it
)
The rest of them need to do that too
