Dropping legacy is nice. Good on Samsung. More OEM's need to embrace that the new standard needs to be distanced from the old legacy stuff. Dropping legacy adds more options for new features, makes the software lighter, more efficient, and it makes EVERYTHING more reliable.
If you're going from 2.3 all the way to 4.0+, if you don't restore factory settings you're doing it wrong. You don't "upgrade" XP to 7. EVER. No. Just no. 3.0+ was almost a whole new base OS.

But how will I update my Samsung Blackjack II?

Samsung says you shouldn't be satisfied with the 1080p screen of the regular Galaxy S5
Oh, Sammy...your propaganda machine is about to throw a gear... -
*sigh* Wife just cracked he screen on her Galaxy S3. I'm still waiting for my Galaxy S Captivate to die :/ lol

I think it'd be smart to find a way to promote the Note 4 without throwing the S5 under the bus. But considering how much richer Samsung is than me, maybe I shouldn't talk.

No, at this point, Sammy's just pulling facts and numbers outta their a**. In the war of smartphones, anything goes.

It's all bad and all, but why would one make naked "selfies". Was there some medical reason for that (except for missing few screws in the head) or something? -
Oh come on, people have been exchanging "boudoir photography" or naked polaroids with their significant others since long before smartphones or the word "selfie" existed.
Edit: I'm not saying everyone does/did it, but the phenomenon existed and has been part of some people's normal romantic relationships for decades. No need to shame a wife for sending a naughty photo to her husband. -

(1) Gentlemen don't kiss and tell.
(2) Purely hypothetically, so what if I was? I've been married to my wife since 2006. What consenting adults do is their own business. And if some disgusting peeping-tom creep is using forensic techniques to lift private photos from a factory-reset used smartphone, I'm not going to put any moral blame on the owners of the phone for having taken the photos in the first place. -
Play Store: Leo's Fortune
I downloaded this last night and this is easily the best platformer I've ever played on a smartphone. The art style and the atmosphere are attractive, detailed (no faux-8-bit graphics here), and whimsical. Movement is a combination of Sonic (momentum-building as you go down ramps, around loops, etc) and Kirby (the ability to inflate and float). Controls are a revelation for a smartphone--sweeping left and right on the left half of the screen causes left-and-right movement; sweeping up on the right-hand side causes you to inflate for a jump and a parachute effect" as you descend, and sweeping down on the right-hand side causes you to deflate and slam down to the ground. Level design is impressive and complex. Gameplay is challenging without being stupidly hard. You die often, but there are frequent checkpoints. It's a nice balance between a super-easy platformer like Kirby's Epic Yarn and a stupid-hard platformer like Super Meat Boy or 1001 Spikes.
The cost is $4.99 up front and there are no ads, no microtransactions, no time gates, no nothing. You can link it to Play Games to enable cloud-based saves and the like, but you don't have to if you don't want to.
I really can't recommend this game enough. Buy it because it's fun as hell, and buy it to encourage other developers to bring this sort of quality gaming experience to the Play Store.
This came up on Play yesterday, I think, and so far, the average rating is 4.9 out of 5 based on 724 reviews. -
As much as we all probably dislike Best Buy, this is a great deal for those on contract with AT&T--
Starting today, Best Buy is offering the LG G3 for $99 up front + 2-year contract (or +$15/$25 for those on Mobile Share), here. It's a fantastic deal considering the phone just launched a few days ago with AT&T, and most other flagship smartphones are $199.
I would probably have jumped on this if I weren't so satisfied with my GS3 running CM 11. -
You can also still sign up for the $50 gift card promo. They give you a $50 gift card after activation so you can turn around and order that slick wireless charging case.. This ends tomorrow at store close though!

Nice! How's the camera quality? Battery life?

Any issue with the screen color?

Very exciting. I'm curious to see how much a battery vampire this can be. But I think it's the next logical step for tablets (and maybe phablets).
-
The camera is basically Nexus 5 quality, despite being 5 megapixels sharper. Battery life is as great as they claim though. All day standby and 6 hours of screen on time.
My HTC One M8's screen is definitely better( sharper and more vibrant), but if you aren't directly comparing it to another flagship, you won't notice.
Basically, it resembles a larger Nexus 5. At $299/$349, it easily beats the Moto X and Nexus 5 too.
I sold mine because it was a little too large and the microphone performance was atrocious(at least for Google Now, I never made a phone call)hizzaah likes this. -
Still kicking myself for not getting the G3 deal at Best Buy last weekend. The signal dropping on my phone is getting worse and worse. I thought this rom was helping, but it seems I go a few hours at a time with no signal. Cycling airplane mode a few times usually fixes it for a while. And when I set it down sometimes it pops up saying "SD card unmounted" followed by "mounting SD card".

I posted this on Facebook, but I thought you guys might enjoy this as well...
So, today I visited H&T Cellular in Florence across from the mall. I was simply wondering if they had a heat gun to melt the glue from around my G2's screen because I just ordered a replacement screen. I was going to replace it myself. So I asked them, and no, they didn't have a heat gun. First of all, what kind of smartphone repair shop can call themselves a repair shop when they don't even have a heat gun. Sad. Second, they constantly berate my replacement part... it's an OEM LG part. He's trying to tell me it's some knockoff 3rd party crap. Then he tries telling me that they don't even carry the G2's anymore because they all had software problems. Well, I know this from experience because I contributed quite a bit to the base Android source code that LG uses to build with... there's no problems. LG's software is perfectly fine. Then after he gets done with his spiel, I flat out tell him... "Look, I'm not your garden variety sucker that you're going to con into buying an overpriced and outdated HTC One M7, or whatever Samsung crap you're trying to sell me. My part that I've got in my hand is straight from LG's warehouse because I ordered it through Google as a replacement part for a Developer Device. Would you like to see the return address on the shipping label? It goes back to Seoul, SK. Now, before I make a scene in front of the customers that are in your store right now, I need you to look me in the eye and tell me that was just a sales pitch and nothing more. If you can't accomplish that I'll drive every single person out of your store so fast it'll make your head spin, and I'll do it with one sentence." So of course he agreed and I left. Then I just went to Walmart, like I should have done in the first place, and bought a hair dryer. Guess who has a fully functional, brand new screen again? Verizon Wireless to slow down users with unlimited 4G LTE plans | Ars Technica
'People who use 4.7GB or more per month fall in the top five percent...'
Really? I'm currently at 4.6GB with my billing cycle ending on 07/28. -
o_o What do you guys do with your phones? I had been on an AT&T 3GB data plan, but I've never ever used more than 1.5 GB, and that was when I watched a bunch of HD YouTube videos and made a conscious effort to use as much data as possible. Just switched to a Mobile Share plan with 3 phones sharing 2GB.
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
When I was on T-Mobile's unlimited data plan, I was averaging 11-13 GB of data a month. That was streaming 720p Twitch.tv game streams for like 1-2 hours every day. Verizon's 2 GB data limit sucks, I can never watch videos on the go now.
-
I'm not even in the US lol.
I'll use MEO in Portugal and Proximus or BASE in Brussels. -
You think that matters?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Last month I used 48GB. But then I don't pay data charges... Google covers that.
Meanwhile, I got me an Android Wear LG G Watch this morning. Fantastic device. I can control my Chromecast from my watch, use it to skip forward/back/play/pause while simultaneously connected to my BT headphones, download all the watchfaces I want... it's pretty much exactly what I was looking for. -
Man, your guys' data usage is unbelievable. Our entire home usually uses less than 150 GB per month, I think, and that's with torrents as well.
Very interested in Android Wear. I think the platform has tons of potential now that it's unified Android-based wearable devices (for the most part). As long as the price isn't unreasonable, I do plan to get the Moto360 when it's released. How's the battery life you're getting with the G Watch? -
Any opinions on buying the Sony Xperia Z Ultra now? Too outdated? Is a 2014 version coming out?
It's selling for 290 which I like. However, I was reading some reviews and there
were complaints that it was too fragile due to its thinness (thanks sony for following apple). -
If you like huge phones, it's still a good option, I think. A 2014 version has been rumored for release this summer, though.
-
Cheese and Rice!
I'm at 548MB and my billing cycle resets itself on the 3rd. And I don't get WiFi at work. So its all on mobile data.
I've only gone above 1GB once in the last 5 years. And that was only because of a new phone with Android market set to autoupdate apps whenever.
