Someone pointed this out in the thread I linked to before you raised this and another guy did so after, blagus has posted and elaborated a little more that it'll basically be a matter of combining the Desire HD and Motorola Droid CM7 ports - one for drivers etc and the other one for the screen res.

EDIT: Something I hope I don't see with the SGS 2.... there was a wild variation in panel temperature with the S-AMOLED. Some were just way too cool.

What are the two phones in the last pic? I assume the right one is the S2, so the left would be S1?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Actually they're both Captivate's. The one on the left is a build 1008 and the one on the right is a build 1007. That's the kind of variance I really don't want to see with S-AMOLED+.
-
Yeah, voodoo color will fix that horrible tint. (at least on the vibrant)
-
The galaxy s2 has settings to change color temp though doesn't it? I remember seeing it in a video
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
The issue is, that the phone on the left is running voodoo color. Normal voodoo color. I have to set it to warm to get it to look remotely normal. The captivate on the right is running the Nexus S's color profile
The SGS 2 that I've used had color saturation adjustments. But that wasn't complete shipping software. -
FCC now allows the public to comment on the AT&T-Mobile merger. (USA)
You can bet i commented
ECFS Express (look for 11-65) -
He's probably referring to the apps that let you download music for free...Makes sense with Google Music around the corner.
A iPhone (former Android user) toting friend smugly emailed that to me a while ago. So ugly...ugh. -
so... T-Mobile tells me im getting free unlimited data in a text... and then tells me it doesnt exist and im not getting it when i call and ask about it.
what the hell?

I did some tweaking to my home screen. Got rid of all the icons and widgets, added a clock, weather, date and battery widgets from Minimalistic Text, and a couple custom 1x1 widgets to check my minute usage, and toggle WiFi and Bluetooth. The background is Wave Live Wallpaper, which actually works pretty well on this piece of crap. You can adjust the colors and background in the free version.
Now I'm looking for something to tweak my lock screen. -
Nice, i often use the Wave Live Wallpaper myself
-
Widgetlocker.
-
Im guessing this is going to be the infuse since the image on the invitation is the same as the wallpaper on the infuse on ATTs website... Samsung Infuse 4G ? Android 2.2 Smartphone ? Wireless from AT&T
Wish it was the GS2 announcement.. but i doubt it. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
It is the Infuse. VZW already launched their version of the Infuse, the Droid Charge. -
Damn. I really hope the rumors of the gs2 not being released until q3 are not true
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Sadly, it's not coming soon anymore. Samsung is having NAND shortages ATM, with Toshiba's factory being off track and Samsung having to catch some of the shortfall. It puts them in a tight spot with MoviNAND... and the smallest GSII is 16GB.
It will still probably be before Q3 though. We're hoping to release as soon as possible... and we were in agreement on design, with us only adding internal silkscreened logos, our GSII will be, pretty much, a global design.
-
Nexus One is pretty nice, got it in the mail today.
So heavy though compared to what im used to.
Now on Craigslist

I've been on the market of an Android, physical qwerty phone for a while now... I'll never get used to a touch-screen-qwerty, thus my need for a physical one.
BUT last week I tried the "Swipe" predictive text input on a Galaxy Tab....
If it works as well on an android phone, I might forget about the need for a physical qwerty... -
I can imagine Swype being a bit different on a tablet.
Its alright for the phone, theres no better way to text with one hand for sure, but for regular typing, it makes some mistakes and i find a multitouch keyboard to be much better. But i guess it depends on the person.
Try it out for your phone, just sign up for Swype Beta and you can DL it
-
^ thanks, but the thing is, I'm not on Android yet... I'm on a symbian device now (PUKE!)...
-
I've actually gone off Swype-esque apps since getting my Arc - now I just use it in landscape with a full qwerty keyboard.
If only I could find a messaging app that's better optimised for landscape usage... -
Arc? You got the Xperia Arc, or are you talking about that porting test?
-
How do I know if an android phone will have Swype?
do all Android versions have it?
or is it downloadable for all Android versions? -
I have an Xperia Arc.
Samsung and Motorola pre-load it, I believe.
But you can download and install it onto most phones.
And there are a lot of Swype-esque apps out there as well as Swype itself. -
have you tried Handcent?
Some phones come with Swype on them. But you can just sign up for that Swype beta to get it on any android phone. (well afaik it will run on any) -
Do you know if the logo will be on the front of the device? I really wish att would just keep the logo on the back and leave the samsung logo on the face of the device
-
Ah, cool! Could you please tell me your experience? I would like to know if it's good ( according to reviews, it's amazing ). My important factors are speed, display and responsivness. Can you please comment?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Our production samples have it silkscreened under the front glass a al Captivate. I could make the suggestion to the purchase team that we only have it on the back though.
-
For some reason the giant ATT logo on the captivate/ samsung focus always bugged me. I know having a samsung logo isn't all that different, but something about the ATT logo on the front glass just cheapens the look IMO. Maybe I am weird. lol
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
LOL. For some reason, it doesn't bother me that much, but it maybe that I see it so much every day that it's burned into my brain..
I know a lot of people aren't that fond of it though. And I'll see what I can do about it.
It's going to be under the glass on the Infuse... that one is unavoidable. It's already built in bulk.
-
It's a nice phone.
You just need to work out if it suits your needs.
As far as single-core handsets go, I'd say it's the best there is. I know plenty of people around here would disagree but having used a Nexus S ( which I'm aware is not the same as the Galaxy S but it's close) and there's no contest IMO.
I have no bias in favour of the Arc - I was given one as opposed to buying it, so I have no need to try justify having spent money on it/to defend my decision.
I already had a phone I was very happy with in the Defy, if I didn't like the Arc I would just have gone back to the Defy and been done with it. But I was properly astounded by it, it's a really nice phone and my Defy doesn't get a look in now.
My only complaint is the battery life.
It's not terrible but the Defy spoiled me with it's 3-4 days between charges.
All that said, the Arc is a single-core handset in a world that is rapidly filling with dual-core models.
Obviously your own needs and circumstances will dictate what phones you can and will consider but if I were buying a phone out of my own pocket right now, I'm not sure the Arc is what I'd go for - the Galaxy S2 is simply too good to ignore. -
Ah, great!
I have also been hearing that the battery isn't top notch, but I can live with it
I think that a dual-core isn't really needed for me; afterall, I won't do intensive gaming, I will only get freebies, and chat-related stuff and GPS.
Yes, the GS2 is amazingly irresistible, but as I said, it's too expensive. Otherwise, I would go with the GS2.
Thanks for the feedback Step, +rep
I sold a game to a friend, and in wednesday, I will have 200.13€!
-
The battery isn't too bad compared to other handsets, I know that I get similar battery life to the three people I work with who have Galaxy Ss.
But as I say, the Motorola Defy is simply awesome in terms of battery life, so going from that to the Arc is a bit of a shock to the system.
No-one needs dual-core but it'll be significantly more future-proof, so if you intend to keep your phone for a few years, it's definitely worth serious consideration. -
But, what would it impact? In what way? The programs in the Android Market will run faster in dual cores or what?
And yes, I intend to keep the phone for at least 2-3 years. -
Initially, not really.
But as time goes on a dual-core CPUs become commonplace, more and more apps and games will be programmed to make use of it as well as the OS itself. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
It's just like buying a single core processor in a notebook, when there are dual core notebooks.
In 3 years time, the budget phones will probably be dual core.
-
Ah, I see...
But now, they are very expensive... D: -
You pay to be future proof. The newest tech always is expensive. This seems to be a circular conversation. You already asked all of these questions a few pages back. In a few days are you going to be asking the same questions again?
Also, it is highly possible that single core phones will not get ice cream sandwich. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
So was your notebook with a AMD HD5870, but you paid that to play high-end games for at least several years.
Buying a smartphone is no different.
-
And just like buying a laptop, not everyone can justify spending the same amount on a phone.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Can everyone here see the SPB Shell 3D in the Android Market? My Nexus S can't see it... can't even search for it.
Hmm... market.android.com says "Not Compatible With Your Device".
-
Ok here from Desire HD.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
I'm on 2.3.4. Could it be that it just isn't updated to recognize that the app is compatible with 2.3.4? -
Selling the Nexus One for $300, that i bought for $260.
$40 profit
-
Hmm thats distinct possibility.
-
I agree, it's a rapidly changing landscape. I think it's a good idea to buy the best you can afford at the time that fits your needs even if it means saving up for a bit longer.
-
Unless its the mythical merge
-
BURN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
