That's actually pretty cool! Thanks!

You mean the buttons at the top of the notification area?
Like the wi-fi and bluetooth toggles?
Personally, whilst I've never owned one of their Android handsets, I'd say that Sony Ericsson's Timescape widget looks far better than either of them.
See now that I not only disagree with but would say you are completely wrong.
TouchWiz changes the way that Android looks far more than Sense. Sense is basically just a sligthly different dock and that's it whereas TouchWiz is a wholesale change.
The drag and drop bit is a nice touch but LG's app drawer is superior with the categories IMO.
It's basically the only thing missing from LauncherPro for it to be perfect.
My opinion of TouchWiz is basically this: if I wanted an iPhone, I'd buy and iPhone and if I wanted a phone that was designed for a toddler to use, I wouldn't be buying Android.
Samsung seem to fail spectacularly to understand either point. -
Just to weight in. Sense is far more than just a slightly different dock.
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
Sense is still far more likeable than Touchwiz having used both.
Admittedly the only thing keeping me on Sense over an AOSP ROM on my Desire is HTC's custom apps, but either way, I don't mind using Sense, I generally don't like Touchwiz.
If I wanted something that looks a bit iphoney I'd go MIUI ROM
-
The above is what I was trying to point out with my original post. You are hating TouchWiz UI not because it is impractical but because it resembles the iPhone's UI. Therefore, you are hating it for all the wrong reasons.
TouchWiz added alot of nice touches that makes it alot easier to use than native android imo. (couples were mentioned above by other posters).
My favor one is slide the notification bar to change brightness on the fly, it is so useful when outdoor.
Also, there are many good reason to buy an Android phone other than pure hate for iPhone's interface. -
The best app of all times and for all platfroms - Angry birds. The game is a bit stupid, but relaxing.

H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
For those with Galaxy S phones, Supercurio's Voodoo Sound is progressing rapidly.... V3 is out with updated kernels and a new control app with anti-jitter, +1.5dB SNR booster, 128x oversampling and some other goodies.
Seriously, audiophiles take note. This is the phone you want!! -
I downloaded it earlier today and i dont get those extra features for some reason. The only 2 options i get is to adjust the amplifier and FM radio bass
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
The app is reliant on the kernel updates to provide new features... just flash an updated kernel with ClockworkMod (you don't even have to disable the lagfix) and the app will automatically see the kernel changes and offer new features. -
Is this it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=806195
EDIT:
Okay done.. my phone is talking now!! creeped me out. -
It makes me angry that Samsung is taking forever to release Vibrant Kernel source. I know devs have released a version of Voodoo sound based on i9000 source but that has crappy battery life.
-
Havent seen it on here yet so im gonna mention it!
Fast Reboot - Closes/Restarts all processes including system processes to simulate a reboot.
Not as good but definetly speeds things up fast!
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
LOL!!!! Supercurio's Voodoo Lagfix has voice notification of partition conversion status.
That literally made my day.
-
Did you honestly just try and dictate to me on what grounds I'm allowed to form or hold an opinion?
-

As has been picked up, Worms is now on Android
Angry Birds....you've just been beaten

What case are you guys using for your Galaxy S?
Im up to my 4th case and they all suck.
1st case was a silicone soft case, which kept sticking to the fabric of my pants.
2nd was TPU plastic which was great but the plastic over the buttons made them very difficult to press
3rd was a hard case, which was great except it didnt completely cover the edges and a layer of it is peeling
4th one is soft gel case which is too soft and again it covers the buttons.
Any suggestions? -
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
Have you tried an hydro gel case, I bought one for my defy and it is great , it covers the screen edges and is not too thick, and it does not attract the dirt, like my last silicon rubber case which was like an dirt magnet and it was far too thick.
I am looking for an discount code for an zagg invisable shields screen protector if anybody has an working one.
The link below is an simmilar case to the one i bought for my defy but for the galaxy s, I cannot be certain thought.
John.

Otterbox Commuter. FTW! -
If you really see my suggestion that way, then I suppose so.
I am using the black silicon case sold at the T-Mobile store, it was the only one available at that time (early launch). -
You told me that I am basing my opinion on the wrong reasons.
Last time I checked, since it's my opinion, I can base it on whatever I want. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Galaxy Tuner -FREE- Indispensible! You can calibrate color, sound, memory, IO Scheduler, and overclock....
-
and I now have no problem with that.
Does it require a compatible kernel for the OC and IO scheduler to work? Because I know setCPU require special OC kernel to function, -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Indeed it does. BTW... you know that none of the devs I can think of will ever recommend SetCPU. Voltage Control is the main app for the Galaxy S phones.
-
That otterbox case looks really nice but pricey.
Are the buttons hard to press?
Does it cover the headphone jack much? I use a fat pailiccs connector which sometimes doesnt go all the way in for some cases -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
I've never had any problems accessing the headphone jack, but that plug you use does look like it might be a bit wide. Button wise, they're not any harder to press than the actual buttons... just a layer of silicone over them. Otherwise, I've had a Blackberry Bold 9000 with the "Defender" case fly out the car window at 35-40MPH and it was still in one piece and working fine when I went back to get it off the highway. LOL.
-
really? Is Voltage Control free? The reason I use setCPU because one it is free for Xda members and two everyone at xda seems to recommend it, even some of the devs.
Edit: I am referring to the Vibrant sub forum of course. -
Voltage Control was one of the options in ROM kitchen, so it should be free. I never ticked it though. Is it worth having?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Voltage Control is made by a dev I know... Xan. It's an AWESOME app. It lets you overclock/underclock/undervolt/change IO Scheduler/save options in boot scripts.
And yep, it's free.
You just have to have a kernel that's OC/UV compatible.

Have you guys tried an new battery extender/task killer called mobile guard it seems quite good.
Android Booster ~ Android Application v1.2.00.00 By NetQin Security | Communication -
This is THE BEST music player app available.
PowerAMP
Has a FULL 10 band Equalizer and Bass/Treble controls. Plays flac and a ton of formats. -
and after emailing the dev and sending him a few logcat files It now works on the Nook Color!
Thank you, Thank you for that round of applause -
I can't believe Nook Color got a semi working version of 2.3 when half of the Galaxy S phone hasn't even gotten their *official* Froyo yet. Sigh.....
-
dude the nook color has a working (beta) of honeycomb....3.0 B&N Nook Color e-reader gets taste of Android Honeycomb - Mobile Magazine
insted of locking down the device bn took the time to make something great at a low price point -
That's what I meant. 3.0/2.3 Tomato, Tometo.
-
You can't really compare official and homebrew versions though - I mean the Galaxy S has a fully functional, unofficial Gingerbread build already.
On the subject of Android versions, I updated my Defy to Froyo last night.
Damn near bricked it a couple of times but it worked in the end.
edit: and, of course, with Froyo comes flash... anyone got any recommendations for a browser that can block ads?
If such a thing exists. -
well if your running root just grab the app called " adfree android" it edits a few system files and blocks ads in ALL apps includeing apps with stupid admob advertising in them and any browser of your choosing... been useing it since the first week I rooted my first g1...even works on my mytouch3g slide (htc espresso) once I did s-off
and bdw 2.3/3 are 100% COMPLETELY different versions of android... -
That's true, by Galaxy S are you referring to I9000? If you are then for some reason not yet known I9000 kernels doesn't work well when ported to Vibrant, it shows battery drain and overheating problems, not to mention few SD card failures. Otherwise, I would have jumped on to one of the Voodoo sound enabled I9000 kernels.
AdFree actually only edits ONE File, it's the "Hosts" (no ext.) in the etc folder. You can actually manually enter entries and bypass adfree all together. AdFree just makes it easier by downloading a whole bunch of entries. -
Well, the i9000 and whatever the model is that AT&T have - I mean, I know Jason's running Gingerbread.
Or at least I think he is...
I have Ad-Free Android on my handset, it's great for in-app ads but it doesn't help with the likes of the flash ads here on NBR.
I was looking for a way of getting rid of them as well. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
I am indeed... It's the Captivate. It's the closest hardware to the true i9000, that's why we have so many choices with firmware/kernel versions.
What ROM are you using Ian? I can make you a hosts file that blocks pretty much all ads and analytics.
-
weird... it blocks EVERYthing for me? It might be your rom?

This one.
It's a Chinese Froyo sbf with that guy's own customisations restored over the top of it.
Also, please don't take this the wrong way but my name's spelt Iain.
That's pretty cool actually, must take a look at some point. -
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
Works fine for me, I posted an app from there the other day, or did i just dream that
-
well apparently you can browse the market from google's own site now...wasn't like that before... anyways I found the best School Management app today
I tried all of the others then a new one caught my eye today that works perfectly... its called Grades: Student Organizer... its great! it integrates its' self perfectly with the calendar and has no extra bells and whistles for what I need.... its worth the 99 cents -
Maybe its my browser
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Ok... This should work on any Android ROM, provided you have ROOT. Take this file and drop it in /system/etc and replace the one currently there.
hosts file -
I use the MVPS hosts file for PC (609kb worth of entries) i think that might be too big for android and slow things down.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
LOL. The one I posted is 606Kb and I haven't noticed any slowdown at all.
EDIT: I've been using it for so long I forgot, it's MVPS also!
