And now, a twist. I have a new phone....

Well, I am going to pick up my new iPhone 11 tomorrow. I got a great deal on it, they are taking my iPhone 8 on trade, so I have to pay nothing up front, get a free case or two, and walk out with an extra 19 bucks on my bill. That's a win. I was close to taking the se, but I want something newer in design. I guess FaceID will have to do.

iPhone 11 is sure nice and has a great battery life to boot! I would go for it, but it's a bit big for me. Tried 11 Pro and it also feels a bit uncomfortable. 12 mini looks nice, but don't feel like paying almost 900 Euros for guttered phone (EU models don't get mmWave capability) and absence of Touch ID. Really hoped they would go iPad way and add it to the power button...
So SE 2020 choice looks stronger and stronger with every day. It's cheaper, gonna use it for 2 years and maybe after that time Apple will finally figure out how to shrink Face ID cutout and add Touch ID. The 6/7/8/SE 2020 size is the perfect one for me. And there is something about that design, with Touch ID button. And I'm someone who comes from LG V30, with OLED screen and almost bezelless design. Those huge notches every reviewer seems to complain about don't bother me one bit, but the Face ID cutout, it just rubs me the wrong way

Yes, I have been going back and forth for a couple of months on what I was going to do. The end was the cameras. I use the camera alot. I hate the notch too. But, I am growing tired of the iphone 6, 6s, 7, 8, se design. I had to goto something new. The SE is a great deal, but an updated design won out for me. I get the deals because of my wifes employer. We get an awesome deal for our devices. I am sure you will love the se. I am just grown bored of it.

 

We also used to get some deals at our company (not as good as yours, but still), until the virus came...

My sister used 6 (the one which I have now lol) since it came out until this year. She has XR now and she loves it, and Face ID doesn't bother her at all. New and fresh is always good, I guess. Heck, maybe it's why I like the iPhone 6 look after almost 3 years of LG V30.

 

For sure. I was going to goto the A71, but every person in my family have iphones so no point to get anything else.

 

Every time I see an iPhone at the store I think that it sure is a nice screen, but when I'm not at the store, my Moto G7 seems good enough.

 

G7 is a nice phone for sure. If apple makes iMessage and facetime available to android I will more than likely switch. Our family uses them alot.

 

Ever here the saying you are afraid of what you don't understand? Well, I was super apprehensive of face ID. IT WORKS GREAT. The phone is more than I was expecting. I am very pleased with my choice and I am now going back to get my wife a lilac iphone 11. I got me, the phone, a lifeproof slam case, and a wireless charger for my wife for 8 dollars out the door with my 8 on trade. that's a killer deal.

 

Face ID is very useful in accessing apps which otherwise would require manual password entry. It's very fast and responsive. My only real complaint is not necessarily with the implementation of face id, but rather using face id with a mask.

 

agreed. That' is the only complaint I have with it too now. Have you tried using the alternate face id with mask on?

 

I wasn't aware of the alternate face id. I'll have to give it a shot!!

 

Didn't I tell you will choose an iPhone anyway!. Your family always get great deals since most of your household uses iOS/iPadOS. You always had good experience on idevices rather than Macbooks.
Once you get used to FaceID it will be same like touchID. Problem occurs when you switch back to SE 2020 or similar design and stare at the screen until it unlocks and after 5 mins you realise it doesn't have FaceID.

 

Just got my wife's 11 too in lilac. We are enjoying the bigger screen and new camera features ALOT!

 

Who knows, when they release the new apple silicon macs I may say frig it and jump ship.

 

Man, I wish more people would use iMessage or Telegram. I dream of deleting my Facebook and Whatsapp accounts, but unfortunately everyone around me starts to whine, like it's the end of the world and they cannot contact me. You can still call me or drop me an SMS! But no... Have to use that Zuck's crap...

 

What are those? ha ha ha. I have facebook messenger only for business. I have everyone else's mobile number to message.

 

They figured that out a long time ago (mask/face ID) on my Pixel 4 XL so I'm sure an update will be coming along to get it working at some point.

 

Yes. I have not tried setting up the alternate Face ID with my mask on yet. Would be great if it worked. Overall, I am enjoying the new 11. It's bigger screen is amazing even though it's "ONLY" an lcd. I don't really care as long as it looks great, and it does. Side by side with my 8 there was a noticable difference in the screen quality.

Well, after a few weeks with the phone here are my take aways. Screen, camera and battery life is AWESOME. Apple is a hot mess. My wife's iphone is downloading apps by itself and launching them. My ipad, If I am using my web browser, looking at anything other than tech, and I close out....the browser app just closes. If I am using the browser and looking at any type of tech like different phones, computers, smartwatches or tablets when I close out the browser app the Apple store app automatically opens. Like really apple? you that desperate? People here complain about windows....Microsoft have nothing on the amount of spying and tracking apple is doing....and you don't know about it. UNTIL NOW. They got caught again recently. These are the last apple products for us. I have two years with it unless they really really piss me off, I will take the hit and buy what I really wanted to go with anyways, the a 71 / 51.
