Thanks @S.Prime, I'll check out the channel...
I'm in the market to buy an Android Box and there are so many to choose from. Would someone be so kind to point me in the right direction based on my criteria and usage?
Which box is best for:
My work station:
1. It will be hooked up to my 4K computer monitor at my work station.
2. I want to be able to watch my international futbol games. English Premier, Bundesliga, La Liga etc...
3. I'd like to record my futbol games.
Are there wireless boxes where multiple users can steam at the same time? -
@iunlock Where do you stream your soccer from? Perhaps HDHomeRun would do the trick? The Nvidia Shield Pro comes with 500GB of built-in storage for your recording needs, but you could also connect an external HDD to another Android TV box. The Mi Box from Xiaomi just got announced at Google I/O.

Excellent. Thanks for the info...
I've been using a paid service, but with an android box I'm hoping for subscriptions to be a thing of the past.
nvidia shield pro looks to be the pricest out of the bunch eh? I have a lot of external HD's laying around....
Any specific recommendations on an android box that will suit my needs? I'm willing to spend whatever to get the best of the best.

Does that mean you're currently paying for an online subscription in addition to a regualar cable subscription, but want to get rid of it? If that's the case, you could swap your current tuner with one from HDHomeRun, which would allow you to stream your channels and recordings to compatible devices on your home network, or get a media centre box with a built-in tuner, such as the WeTek Play. If don't want to have any form of subscription, I'm not sure how you'd get to watch the matches for free. I know a lot of the Android boxes on the market are used to access licensed content for free, but obviously illicit solutions can't be discussed here.
Yep, you probably don't need something as potent as the Nvidia Shield, and if you have external hard drives, you wouldn't need the Pro. Since your usage doesn't sound too diverse, I have to ask. Does it have to run Android? Even the Raspberry Pi 3 handles Kodi well, and then there's the previously mentioned WeTek Play.
If you figure you want access to additional services and apps offered by Android, I'd get get a box running Android TV rather than plain, often outdated Android. That way, you'll be presented with an experience better suited for the big screen, and streaming apps are more likely to allow output in higher resolutions. Currently, the list of devices certified to playback Netflix in HD & 4K is very short. Both the Nexus Player and Mi Box run Android TV while being significantly cheaper than the Shield. However, they don't offer USB 3.0 or an ethernet port, and are not as powerful. The Nexus Player does not have HDMI 2.0 and is not HDCP 2.2 or HDR compliant, should that matter in the future, while the Mi Box is not available quite yet. Furthermore, even if the Mi Box runs Android TV 6.0, unlike most of its competitors, it's not a given that it'll recieve the same certifications as the Shield and Nexus Player.
Ultimately, you'll have to be more specific as to how you plan to access your sports content before a final recommendation can be given.

Thanks for the informative reply. I could install Kodi onto my NAS and call it a day? I would be watching my futbol games on my 4k computer monitor at my work station. The NAS is also hooked up to a switch, which sits on my desk.
My needs are as follows:
* To access live TV channels. Sports, News etc...
* 4k movie capability.
* Able to record my games or shows.
* Ethernet port for directly plugging into my switch -> network.
What I don't need:
* Games.
* Games.
* or games....
My needs are very basic, yet specific as noted above. I already use PLEX and it is awesome for remote access while traveling.

Well, if you already have the hardware, going the NAS/Home Server route is the most practical. You could for instance use MythTV in Kodi, where your recordings could be accessed through Plex. I have no experience setting up a backend like this, but it doesn't look too complicated.

1) I wouldn't use this for 4K unless all the files will be in 8-bit, and likely not be in VP9. From what I have tested, anything in 10-bit just can't be done properly at the moment.
2) Look for Kodi channels that will have access to your games before purchasing.
3) I would imagine you would need an intermediate box, or some sort of splitter in order to record from these. There may be some app that could do it, but it may also depend on how well your box holds up performance-wise.iunlock likes this.
