Well, it's used to do an overall test of power delivery, to see if your vehicle / engine have a problem delivering the amount of power expected for your vehicle. After a complete visual and functional inspection it's a good test for a used car if you are considering buying it. It also tests out the drive train at the limits.
It's also used for tuning after market performance components, giving direct feedback to hardware changes and tuning changes.
It also gives buyers of after market performance and tuning components direct feedback as to whether their expenses amounted to anything useful![]()

I know what you are getting at. I am just passed the benchmarking era in my life. If it works, and works fast for what I am doing...I don't care what the benchmarks are.
-
Well, the expertise can be applied to logging performance information before and after changes, like hardware updates, or software updates. It helps give a clear base upon which to stand and compare as the computer ages - and it helps to gauge when it's time to upgrade - whether you can do some things with new hardware you can't do with what you have.
Of course that means *not* basing upgrade times on when the new shiny device is dangled every year - or several times a year - no need to spend your retirement fund for every new geegaw.
Benchmarking can be used as a tool to *save money* too.

True. But as I said, My devices work, work fast etc....I have NO reason to benchmark them. I don't care if my 6s is slower than the 7, or whatever on a bench mark. As long as it's fast while im using it. I have to deal with Horsepower zombies all the time in my shop. how come this part did not give me x number HP like I have been told it would. Well...there could be A MILLION reasons. but, does it work better since you put X part on? yes....well then....its fine. Could be the gas one person used compared to the other. How much carbon is in their motor...but who cares you are missing one HP. These HP claims from parts are approximates never guarantees.
-
On the flip side .....NOT using benchmarks could save you money....I look back at my younger self. Benchmarking every part I put into my old builds. a new part came out and benchmarked 10 points above mine...NOT noticeable while using....but damn, its 10 points faster....Therefore you HAD TO HAVE IT.

Yep, that's the default function isn't it, to spur on faster acquisitions, but we all go through it and learn from it and apply it to the next adventure's

Agreed, just saying there's a reason they occasionally bring out a portable Dyno covered in Monster decals that anyone can roll their machine up on when there's a dealer event too. -
Guys I own a Dyno. I know what it's used for ....Like I said, If my bike, sled etc is all stock, I don't put it on the dyno. I don't care what it has.....However, if I am modifying something...then yes. I get a baseline and go from there.

dammit, how did I miss this opportunity to back to iOS 9....

Apple Faces U.S. House Republican Inquiry Following iPhone Throttling Fiasco-hothardware.com
Apple is now facing a potential inquiry from House Republicans who want answers from on its throttling policy. Four of the U.S. House Republicans, including the chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee, wrote a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook on Friday.
The letter asks Cook to answer questions about throttling older iPhones with batteries that have lost performance. The letter also expressed concern over an iPhone battery that overheated and began to smoke recently in Switzerland. Apple is also facing inquiries from the U.S. Senate as well with Senator John Thune, chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, having sent a similar letter to Apple on Tuesday. At this point Apple has offered no official statement on either letter.
Apple is currently facing a number of class action lawsuits over throttling of devices with older batteries. Apple's competition is taking advantage of “ThrottleGate” fiasco and have announced they would never throttle older devices. -

Wonder if they'll push something voluntary, a notification that says something like "we noticed your battery is dying, if you want it to last longer, use this feature". Probably what I'd do in the aftermath. Also everyone needs to stop using "-gate" and come up with something different. It jumped the shark a long time ago.kojack, hmscott, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -
In all reality, they should allow users to roll back to the earliest firmware possible. They already lock you out of the appstore based on if your firmware is too old for certain apps, there is ZERO reason why you can't roll back to older firmwares. I downgraded/hacked my IOS9 4S back down to IOS6, and it is simply amazing, how much more usable the phone became. It feels as snappy as it did in 2011.

Battery gate: Apple promises transparency from the next iOS update
"In the future, Apple will let iPhone users decide if and when their smartphone will be throttled. According to Tim Cook, this feature will be on board in the next iOS release." What else could CrApple do? Be the only brand who force throttling on their smartphones?

Watch them put some sort of snarky message when the phone boots after a power-related shutdown. "User error: Your phone ran out of batteries again." -
Will love to see it on iMac, MBPs as well.
-
Not the same competition as in the smartphone market. Forget it, won't happen. Apple had to change their mind. Not nice being the only brand out there who delivers forced fully crippled performance once you walk out from the shop.Vasudev likes this.

Fully crippled with zero issues for end users, nice concept?

Apple will release 11.2.5 next week, so download the tvOS profile just in case you don't want ios device to auto update and lose performance http://www.ipodhacks142.com/download/tvos-11-beta-profile/
I already disabled it on my mom's phone. Can't waste time for another Clean Install. Better to wait for sometime and then deploy it.Support.2@XOTIC PC likes this. -

I think the affected person was taking a bite at the burger, suddenly the person texted/Whatsapp'ed/Tweeted something and instead of eating the burger, he took a bite at the phone. The iphone was angry and decided to explode itself.

Hmmmm. I have to check to see if I am on it right now....back. Downloading now. I noticed my messages took along time to send on the last update. See if this one fixes that up.

imessage or standard text? I don't have iMessage or facetime.
-
Yes on imessage. Seems to be much better after the latest update. I sent my wife a few pics of some work i was doing and it was sent fast and reliably!
-
Doesn't that depend on network/data connection speed? Or are you talking about how image is rendered and sent immediately w/o any delays?
Never used it, so that's why I'm asking. -
I was thinking it was, but no. there was something else slowing it down. I did a speed test on my laptop and pull over 300mb /sec. On my iphone it was 150 plus, so that was not the issue. It was something with IOS doing it. When I switched to LTE it still did the same thing.

Even message and phone app startup faster. App switching is stuttering like hell with reduce motion enabled.
I just beat my previous benching scores by 500-700 points. -

I have an iPhone 6 that's over 2 years old and I'm sure the battery isn't in the greatest condition. Whatever update Apple released as of late seems to have helped the performance, apps start up faster and the whole phone is more responsive.
Charles -
Still with reduce motion turned on the app switching is way faster than older releases.
Check battery wear level using AIDA64. Close the app twice and re-open it will give correct wear level. But the API can hook onto that data for a second, so be quick since it updates itself saying zero wear level.
This release should have been iOS 11.1.Papusan likes this. -

Apple responds to reports regarding the US Government's enquiry into throttling iPhones-Notebookcheck.net
Apple has confirmed that the US Government is probing into the throttling of older iPhones — a move that has caused quite a flutter among tech circles and consumers alike. Acknowledging the probe by the Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Cupertino-giant has said that it has no intention to "degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades". -

Makes sense though. They don't need to push new hardware like that when they're taking cuts from iTunes and the app store, just make sure that when people do upgrade that they stick with Apple products. I'd guess this was the result of research that indicated that people were more likely to abandon Apple for Android if the problem with their phone was a short battery life than if it had a slow OS. A n incorrect conclusion and a bad solution, but I doubt it was to make people throw away their old phones to get new ones so much as to keep them using the OS that makes them money independent of hardware sales because I'd bet as long as a consumer can download songs and games from them they don't care what generation it's on. -
Exactly. Hence the reason Apple supports their devices for 5 years. Unlike most any android phone which may get 1 OS update. They know they have to sell phones to stay in business. Apple is fine selling services and keeping people using iphones.
-
Apple is a hardware co. so their SW is just a free service to keep their Excellent hardware up and running as stable as possible.
Did you plan to switch to iphone 8? -
Nope. My 6s is running just fine. once it starts to slow down, i will replace the battery and keep on trucking. nothing besides wireless charging intrigues me with the new Iphones. Again, If Apple WANTED people to buy devices every year, They would not frig around messing with a silly battery "hack" to slow down their devices. They would simply not update them like Samsung, LG and others. Easy peasy, lemon squeezey. That's how you do it. legal, clean, etc. Just like the android rouges.
-
A tip for you, I discovered whilst charging the iphone through wall adapter. If your phone gets hot, AIDA64 will report a sudden increase in battery wear level and you must switch off charging and let it cool for 10-15mins and relaunch AIDA64 and actual wear level is hidden.
-
As I mentioned many times. My phone has no issues with slow downs, battery life, charging or etc.
-
As I said, its just a tip. Anyway, 11.2.5 has better battery it lasted 4.5 days with 25% remaining.kojack likes this.
-
I cannot comment on the battery life since most of the time my phone is searching for non existant LTE connections in my shop. I am fully wifi inside the shop, no service. So my battery is used more down there because of the constant searching. That being said, i was on a weekend trip this past weekend and after all day I still had 75% plus battery life left. That was with moderate use. NOT BAD.
