I don't know who's dumb idea was to introduce notches in today's smartphones to increase the screen viewing area by what? 0.1 inches!! No matter how much I tried to get used to it, it bugs the heck out of me especially when watching videos in full screen. My brain ignores everything else that's going on and only focuses on that darn notch.
I can't stand it, even though the notch is a tiny dot on my Galaxy Note 10's screen, I disabled it from day 2.
What are your thoughts on this?

I enabled Full Bezel trick moments after phone was taken out of the package!
Most apps and video still don't take up the notch area and revert to square or rectangular size which makes notches almost useless and obsolete.
EDIT: I bought a Nokia 8.1. Although I'm not a phone user it still can last upto 3 days even with Portable hotspot usage for 4-5hrs per day. I never tested the extent my device can go!HHHH and Starlight5 like this. -
Starlight5 Yes, I'm a cat. What else is there to say, really?
I personally think noticeable bezels and large notches are about equally ugly, while waterdrop notch or some alternative selfie camera placement are the way to go.
p.s. My phones don't have notches.Last edited: Sep 26, 2019Vasudev and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
Most videos and pictures are either 4:3 or 19:6, so the notch is outside viewing frame and doesn't bother me. On the home screen left side has clock, right side has phone icons and notch is like a divider. I think it's a little silly, but not a big deal for me.
What bothers me more is missing headphone jack, iris scanner and couple other things that IMO should be there.
Newest Huawei has no physical keys at all, everything is on or side of screen controls and that could be a problem for me: I already accidently invoke commands I have no intention of activating, when holding my N10+ and this will only get worse.Vasudev, Spartan@HIDevolution and Starlight5 like this. -

I have no notch and will not buy any smartphone with it.

Notch \ punchholes ?? imo in practice a bunch of dead pixel, a defective display, something seriously wrong. And btw, curved screens? All I've seen prone to produce horrible glare + distortions along the sides. Useless.
Huawei Mate 10 Pro my daily driver > no notch, fast, great flat screen, good cam, great battery, regular updates. Am hoping it will last long. Sam 10e is pretty close, flat screen with option to 'turn on' the top bezel to hide the hole.Vasudev and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
Guess I am the minority here. I actually like having the notification bar above the main area of the screen.

I have the Redmi Note 8 Pro, and the notification bar is either side of the notch and it does not bother me one bit, I would prefer a phone without a notch as bezel size does not bother me one bit, But all newer phones have a notch or a drop or a hole so if you want newer tech you just have to put up with it.
edit: Should we ask for a Android and iOS to be split into different section?I keep reading the title of a thread and then realise it`s for Apple and it`s a waste of time.Vasudev likes this. -
I voted no because my phone has no notch.. IPhone 8 for life.

you created a thread about how you will never deal with apple yet almost everything you own and kept is apple? do you see something wrong with this picture.
-
Yes I did, because I was pissed at how apple manages or should I say mismanaged their storeage on ios. I am getting rid of my iPad, and I will never own a Macbook, but after trying various phones, nothing works as good as my iPhone. Get over yourself.

Or even Iphone SE.

Not worth it imo. I have seen the speed differences and it's not enough for me to move. If the 12 pro has touch Id back, I'm gone to one of those.
Do you disable your smartphone's notch?
