The OS thing is ridiculous, M$ is probably he#a jealous of those guys for a long time and we can see M$ embracing that "buy new hardware or no go" greed logic in Win11, so far anyways. AFAIK there's no linux totally open and free phone OS.

hertzian56 and Reciever like this.

Been following that product for a little while now, I like what they have so far. If they have enough of a following for another generation it might be what I end up getting since on a hardware level it checks all the boxes.
-removable battery
-headphone jack
-SD expansion
Maybe by that time they will have WiFi 6 if they can source the parts for cheap enough, but that would be unlikely considering Dell still has lead times of about 4 months.
I feel like the Cosmo Communicator's dual boot of Linux and Android would be more palatable to people traditionally on Android but the price and function difference between it and the Pinephone isnt something that is easily overlooked. -

inferior to the lg g7 in everyway and 50 bucks more?

Your comparing an android phone to a not android phone. Apples and oranges.

It's just a demonstrator for most people and really for linux and other power users but it's something. The camera is probably the worst part hardware wise, 5MP pics ugh.

Got a used g900v with some screen burn for 31$ shipped, comes with an otterbox but I still have an otterbox that I never use for my current s5, came with it too but I also have a few gel cases which is all I've ever needed in all cases tbh.
I was researching putting LineageOS on there and boy it sounds ominous tbh. I'll have to even check if I can unlock the bootloader on this model, verizon isn't too friendly in this case. Either way though, if this current g900v gets too buggy can just switch over to the new one, or if I get to liking the A01 a lot just switch to that as a main phone it is a lot zippier. So for ~60$ I'm all set. -
All this talk is making me look at the Note 4 again, but I would have no use for it and its hard for me to justify things I know I wont use lmao -
Yeah I'll definitely try it on either one of them, I guess I could try it on my note4 though should be similar since it's the verizon version. Note 4's are pretty cheap on eb if you look for them, I overpaid when I got mine for about 80$ about 3 years ago but they've come down to less than $50 for the phone and if you look you can get a bundle with a case maybe an extra battery etc No point if you have no use for it though. The best phone samsung produced overall, camera is better than the s5 little brothers, pretty much all of them were the 32gb version, strong metal build etc etc I even think the resolution and ppi still stackup today.

Just have to be a bit careful with the Note 4's, I guess there is a bit of a design flaw with it. Memory controller gets too hot and eventually stops working. Wasnt enough for a recall but it happen from time to time. Now that I think about it, it was that phone that led me to use SD cards as I had to put the phone in the freezer and hook it up to my laptop to pull what I needed off of it.

Unlikely I'd use it as a primary phone, as mentioned it's been a wifi and phablet/ereader/road trip movie device. It will not go out of date for those purposes. Just a backup in case but it is a nice device, especially without the case I've got it in but I want it protected and clean. My primary phone has always been my main photo taking thing so that's what I'd really only worry about losing on there. I did lose a bunch of photos from a road trip I really wanted but that was the stupid pny microsd card, went back to sandisk and no problems since. I do have it as a second line for this month since I had an unused sim and already bought monthly plan card. Good for phone verification of old accounts.

Update: probably going to keep the s5 new used phone, the battery is average lasts a day or so, but can just put in my other spare or get a new one for 7$, screen burn is very noticeable on white or blue backgrounds but I think manageable. After looking at all the rooting/bootloader unlocking stuff probably going to pass on that, not worth it for one app that just won't run, even an installed older version that did run. Just a backup for cheap if my buggy s5 gets worse. The A01 just if I really need a newer phone, just grab a sim, buy a plan and transfer over.
Got the s5 in and wow it has a lot of screen burn, I don't know how someone could be so dumb as to let that happen and this is the original owner who sold it to me with the box and charging stuff still unwrapped as well as the case. My note4 and original s5 have screen burn too but only very minor never notice it. I usually work with dark backgrounds as much as possible so it's not too bad but since Android 6 doesn't have dark mode it will be noticeable on maps and internet etc Not sure if I'm going to keep it or not. They're just as bad here afa available memory vs. stated memory, 16gb and once I disable a ton of junk I still only have 6.5gb usable memory. oof.Last edited: Aug 13, 2021
