This will be my next phone!
I was almost gonna buy the Galaxy Note 9 but reading up on Android forums a lot of users seem to be unhappy with its camera like when taking a picture where there is sky in the background the sky would be blown out / overexposed and a few other issues like the pics taken not actually being saved (seems to be an issue only on the Snapdragon variants but still).
What makes me like this phone more is the wide angle lens and bigger 4200mAH battery and in screen fingerprint sensor so I can easily unlock the phone while its laying down flat on my desk

The phone has an IR Blaster as well with a built in app for it:

I'd be careful about firmware patches and bundled apps. I simply don't trust Chinese products.
Isn't that phone huge? -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
I thought Samsung has more bloatware as they have a Samsung version of every freakin' Android app like Samsung Notes, Samsung Voice Recording, Samsung calendar, etc.
Does Huawei have bloatware?
PS: Yes it's huge, so is the Note 9, but I have to make that compromise as I do want a phone with a good camera. My BlackBerry Key2 is amazing but the camera on it is utter garbage. -
Tinfoil, isle 3. These phones are fine. Actually if was was moving to android, I would have the p20 pro.
-
Never heard of those phones.
I know you'll buy an iphone XR like model in the next 3 years when your wife gets a sweet deal through her company. That time everyone in your family will be iphone users.
You're joking right? There's no way anyone would downgrade from Note 9 to a Huawei. Samsung loves to create clones which none uses ever. You can't uninstall it w/o breaking TW UI.
Try GCam port on Key2. -
The p20 camera is amazing. I've had samsung a long time, swapped to one plus for a brief moment, and now on the S8. If i was to upgrade now it would be the P20 pro as I do like taking pictures and macro style shots.
Also, I would chose a P20 over a note 9. Because bloatware.
Bixby anyone? -
Also, The pen is a novelty that just keeps a small space inside the phone. And I got a sweet deal THIS time on iphones. I am probably going to move to the new P series device when this round of devices are up. I am seriously not feeling the lack of fingerprint scanner on the new iphones (hence the reason I got the 8 instead of the ten). The p20 pro is one of the best phones out there.
-
Macro shots are very good but daylight shots just seem a little too over-processed to me especially the wide angle shots.
-
The shots from the P20Pro are on par with the 1020, no small feat. The camera in the 1020 produced the best still photos from any phone, the 20Pro is right up there with it. Nothing from samesong or apple can touch it.

So I went to one of the biggest cell phone retailers here in Dubai called AXIOM Telecom. I don't have any patience so I was actually going to buy the Galaxy Note 9 512GB. I played with it for a while but I wasn't impressed with the camera, photos look great but when you zoom in they look grainy and this was in a perfectly lit store. Then I tried the front facing camera, I was even more disappointed with that. Then I looked at my trusty BlackBerry Key2 and was like, is it really worth paying $1300 USD just go get a slightly better camera? I was in doubt....
I didn't even think they would have the Mate 20 Pro on display since it will be released on the 8th of November then I glance at the Huawei stand and I saw a Mate 20 Pro! I was super excited.
I picked it up, first thing is even though it's a big phone, it feels very good in the hand and looks like a quality device.
Then I tried navigating through the OS and it is snappy as hell!
Finally, I tried the camera and was simply blown away by the detail it captures, the wide angle lens adds a whole new perspective to photos and there is this maro mode where even if your phone is super close to an object ot even text, the photo won't be blurred and comes out super crisp so I was sold!
The pre-order offer is you get a free wireless charger, Huawei Watch GT, and VIP Service. Upon inquiring about what this VIP service is, they said that Huawei is giving 6 months accidental damage on the phone for free!
Can't wait till I get my hands on this thing! super excited!Vasudev likes this. -
For computational photography, Google reigns supreme and none can beat for now.. If Google can make the stock camera work on any android phones then its a game changer for Android trumping the iPhone in camera department even though the device is economically priced.
Your hands are similar to Zack aka Jerry rig and you'll need a sturdy and durable phone.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

Wow, this video really shows you every single feature of the phone!
-
Ultra, you have this phone ordered correct? What made you choose the mate over the P20 Pro?
Vasudev likes this. -
Maybe price to performance ratio was higher.
-
Ok, I did not realize the mate 20 pro had the 40 mp sensor in it as well.

A 40 MPx,Telephoto, Super wide angle camera is present on Mate 20P. Isn't every phone using 4:3 aspect ratio instead of 16:9? I don't like black/grey bars on the sides on 4:3 in portrait while I think 4:3 is better for landscape.
Did anyone notice some pictures posted by UltraMale in OP? I can't find it anymore. -

1) Ultra wide camera lens, that gives you a whole new perspective of taking images to get more stuff in your image without needing to step back
2) Better display with more contrast and color saturation and is slightly bigger although that is not why like the screen more as I like saller phones but the extra contrast/color is what I like
3) In screen finger print scanner meaning I don't need to lift the phone off my desk to unlock it like with other phones with fingerprint scanners on the back
4) Better face unlock features with 3D scanning
5) Wireless charging that can charge even other devices (reverse wireless charging)
6) higher IP Rating for water and dust resistance
5) Nano Memory card slot
7) More powerful 7NM CPU
8) Better GPU
9) The Mate 20 Pro ships with Android 9.0 out of the box. While that will come to the P20 Pro later on, I HATE waiting for OS updates
10) Having the option to choose the conventional Nav Bar or gesture based navigation
11) Image stabilization which is not available on the P20 Pro
12) Better signal reception and better GPS (on paper at least)
15) Bluetooth 5 on the Mate 20 Pro vs Bluetooth 4.2 on the P20 Pro
16) Slightly larger battery on the Mate 20 Pro (4200mAH)
17) Super fast 40watt fast charger in the box

For you bro @Ultra Male
92% Review of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro Smartphone
A strong piece. The spec sheet of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is packed with flagship-level hardware, including the new Kirin 980 SoC, the fastest LTE modem currently in a consumer smartphone, reverse wireless charging and a fingerprint sensor underneath. your screen. This review will put all this new hardware and much more to the test to determine if the technical prowess of Mate 20 Pro translates into real-world performance.Vasudev and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
Cool, so it's a true update to the p20. I was under the understanding it was a lesser phone to the p series, but I was wrong. Sounds like something I want.Spartan@HIDevolution and Vasudev like this.

@kojack
I canceled my pre-order after seeing many reports on the web about screen light bleeding and the jelly effect when recording video in 4K. I am not paying such a premium with a phone with issues from the get go. -
So you're using Key2?
-
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
Right now yes, it's very hard to leave this awesome keyboard man. I'm so addicted to its precision and I type without even looking at the keyboard
The battery is great and the level of customization you have is insane even the convenience key can be set to whatever app you want (looking at you Samsung with your stupid Bixby).
The only downside of the Key2 is its mediocre camera otherwise it would've been like the perfect phoneVasudev likes this. -
You should use GCAM port. Why not go for Pixel 2 XL or Pixel 3 w/o notch?Starlight5 and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

Thinking of the Pixel 3 the only issue is if I buy it from one of the stores here that import them from the USA, it's without warranty unless I wanna send the phone back to the USA. Not that I've ever used warranty on a phone to be honest as I'm usually very careful with my phones and even have a Spigen case ready for it. I'm just finding it hard to swallow the hefty price tag for it which is $1088 USD for the 128GB version. Ouch -
I'm getting the Pixel 2 but sadly its unavailable but I'm getting P2 XL at the same price, dunno what to do. Its 128GB unlocked SIM w/ 2 yrs onsite repair.
Get the P2XL from local store and ask them for their warranty. Its somewhat easy to service P2XL than P3. I don't like glass back.
Still I'm overpaying for p2XL.
Spigen case?? You don't have Pixel 3 with you! Did you mean Spigen case is available in Sharaf DG which is 15 mins drive away from your mansion?Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
no I usually order Spigen Cases from Amazon for all the phones that I am thinking of getting then I sell the ones I don't want later as I will never touch a phone without a case on it I'm too clumsy and I easily drop them and you know phones these days, one drop and it's scratched or scuffed.
There are no local stores here which carry any Google phones I only get them through these misc. retailers who import them from the USA but man the camera on the Pixel 3 is insane and more so that night mode is like magic!
-
Yeah I know the pain. We have service center just like Dell Onsite but I know it'll be worse. I thought about getting Nokia 8 sirocco and it has weird hardware defect wherein Qi Charging or Turbo charging will internally crack the front glass and back glass when the Delta temp is high and your ambient temps are above 27-30C. I dropped the plan to buy it from Dubai, otherwise would have got it from there. Sadly, Exynos chips are just like Intel 8265 when compared to SD 835 chip in terms of connectivity. My area has poor LTE coverage so Exynos and Intel barely gets signal. My Lumia can hold neck to neck with upload speed and get the max 3G speed shattering iphones and Galaxy series. My carrier is locking me out so I must upgrade to Pixel 2 and I'm deciding which case to buy Tech21 or Spigen thin case?
Night sight and other features (except Top shot and Wide angle shots) are coming to older Pixels and its a massive heart ache for competitors on how google achieved Night Sight.Last edited: Nov 5, 2018 -
