I don't understand why the Nexus 6P and the Xperia Z5 still stuck with the 810 even after its severe limitations became known in the One M9 and GFlex 2.
-

They must have fixed the overheating on the 810 they are using v2.1 , though i means nothing to me, even if they have fixed the problem 810 overheats is in peoples head`s now, and will affect the sales, though how many people check what cpu is being used, not everybody checks all the specs like us on NBR before we buy.
If it now has an lower performance people will say it`s been crippled to keep the temperature under control.
John. -
Even if they'd managed to slake the 810's thermal output, current-gen big.LITTLE on 20nm makes for an inefficient chip.

My Samsung Tablet has an octo-core and it just never lived up to the hype, I was supposed to be able to run all 8 cores at once, but Samsung disabled this feature due to thermal concerns, I watched all the video`s on utube showing all 8 cores working at once, but you get an Tab that will not do all 8, a total swindle.
John. -
Isn't that the same version that the heat-plagued One M9 uses?

Samsung's octa-core were just quad core CPU and quad core GPU/multi purpose cores.. -
The very same. But I will reserve judgment for Google and thew new Nexus.Mitlov likes this.

I don't think the Nexus 6 had a major issue with the 810. But look at the OnePlus Two, HTC M9. I'm sure Google has done their homework and made the last gen Motorola Nexus 6 work. -
Nexus 6 was 805. The last Qualcomm Krait chip. It gets pretty toasty, especially when it is on the rapid charger. That said, it doesn't throttle heavily. Qualcomm really botched their first big.LITTLE and the fact the 820 is a custom design by Qualcomm much like their old Snapdragon chips highlights that. https://www.qualcomm.com/news/snapd...o-cpu-heterogeneous-computing-and-role-custom
I'm watching the Nexus 6P but I'm most likely going to wait for the HTC O2 next year. This will be the longest I've kept a phone in a few years lol.jaybee83 likes this. -

Does Apple not keep the cpu cool by using the aluminum unibody as an heatsink, never had an iphone so i dont know for certain.
John. -
Aluminum devices are indeed large heatsinks but that heat gets transferred into the user's hand. There were times my HTC One M7 got so hot I couldn't touch it. My iPad Air gets hot when its charging. The real issue with these devices is how hot they get when they are charging and being used simultaneously. My Nexus 6 got up to 52C today when I was charging it and using Facebook and that heat went right through my UAG case and made the phone uncomfortable to use. The Nexus 6 is not aluminum and it still has that heat transfer issue.
I am really interested to see what these Kryo cores from Qualcomm can do, especially since they reversed direction and dropped back to a quadcore instead of big.LITTLE. -
After watching the liveblog, I'll admit I'm slightly seduced by the 6P. I won't preorder--that's a move for suckers, regardless of the product--but if initial owners don't report any woeful hardware or software issues, I might dump my Moto X for one. I'm tired of constantly battling against 16gb of non-expandable storage.
-
My interest just died. The 5X supports carrier aggregation of Band 4 and Band 12 but the 6P does not which means that this device will offer no speed benefit in my area over my Nexus 6 that I have now. T-Mobile rolled out their slow 700MHz band 12 here and my Nexus 6 has been stuck with it with no way to force it to use the much higher speed 1700MHz band 4 network... Guess I will be waiting for that HTC after all. Bad move Google and Huawei.
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Why not the Nexus 5X, though I feel that it may not be available to all US carriers like it states in the Playstore. The Nexus 6P just doesn't really do it for me, like the traditional designs of the Nexus devices. Even going out on a limb here, I like the Motorola Nexus 6 (look) over the 6P. -
The 5X is a ripoff for those low specs. That phone should be 300 at the most. It doesn't even come with 3GB of RAM.
The unfortunate thing is that the 5X has the more capable radio setup.
I don't mind the 6P look really and it sounds like that camera might post some nice shots, a first for a Nexus device really. -
My stance is about the same as it was before the 6P went official. AMOLED has been confirmed, and the camera is a nice surprise. No RGBW in use here; we're talking about a high-speed, highly light-sensitive IMX377 sensor. Outside of low-light usage, I think it'll ultimately lose out to the Z5, but having a Nexus phone that's finally able to compete with the best of the best is fantastic. The only disappointment in sight is the lack of OIS, camera hump and all. Two major downsides to me are the 810 and pricing. Initial pre-order pricing is ugly for me, with the 64GB and 128GB models commanding $825 and $920 respectively.

Slow-motion video of a hummingbird filmed with a Nexus 6P:
David Burke: Google+ link
Looks like the Nexus name has FINALLY been applied to a phone with a camera that doesn't suck. -
I want the bigger screen size of the 6P over the 5X. And initial reports are suggesting that the camera works faster on the 6P even though the specs look similar on paper. Also, the price difference is quite marginal when you compare 32gb to 32gb models. And the 6P has a 64gb model, which I might go for; the 5X tops out at 32gb.
As for the Motorola Nexus 6, I wanted a big leap forward in camera quality from my Moto X; the Motorola Nexus 6 only offers a small step forward. -
US Cellular, regarding whether you can activate the Nexus 6P on their network: "At this time it just isn't available for activation with our network." I clarified with them and that's a "no it's not," not merely a "we don't know yet." UGH. Darn it.
-
It's been confirmed that the screen is a Samsung panel, and some places are saying it's the same panel as the Note 5.
I'm sure it's just a delay in them getting the green light that they support it. It's fine because I won't have cash to buy one until at least Q1 2016. But unless it has horrendous throttling issues related to the 810, I think I've found my next device. It hits all the high points of iPhone* while still giving me the Android interface that I prefer, the file management and software-openness I prefer (choosing your default programs and such), the tie-in with google services I already use, etc. And despite all that, it costs two-thirds what an iPhone 6S Plus does (comparing 64 gb to 64 gb).
* (good real-world camera performance, slow-motion camera, attractive screen, impeccable build quality, several years of security updates straight from the OS manufacturer) -
nexus fanboy / total sucker here!
impatiently waiting for orders to become available here in germany, cant wait to swap out my 2yr old N5 for the 6P
couldnt care less about the camera, but nice to know that its supposed to be good. i really like the design and that camera bump isnt actually as pronounced as early leaks suggested. cant make up my mind yet as to which color to go for, but definitely the 32gb version (currently on 16 and rarely ever filling it up, so ill be fine). also very important factors for me: brilliant powersaving amoled screen, screen dimensions and most of all: huge battery! should make for some pretty nice runtimes
too bad they didnt implement wireless charging, was actually looking forward to trying it this gen around. but usb type c with 3.0 speeds kinda makes up for that
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk -
Yeah, the latest Samsung panel is good news (Note 5/S6 Edge+). Most competing AMOLED panels can't manage ~500 nits. Then there's accuracy:
The Nexus 6 Premium is starting to look plenty attractive with what appears to be a very nice camera, top-of-the-line display, front-facing speakers, 3450mAh battery, pure Android, and an all metal build. I wonder how hard it would be to get the 6P Special Edition from Japan...
I feel confident the battery life will be good, but I doubt it will be as nice as the capacity would indicate considering it has an 810 and a large, high-res display on board. Personally, I don't care much for wireless charging since it's slower and less efficient than wired, but I can see how people that are used to it would miss the convenience. With USB 3.0, the comparison in efficiency becomes even starker: quoted numbers for the 6P are 1% to 100% in 97 minutes and 10 minutes of charging provides up to 7 hours of battery life.Last edited: Oct 1, 2015 -
i'm in the same boat after 2yrs of my still pretty fast running N5 i decided too for the N6P this time, the N5X just don't look like a upgrade to me, just some minor upgrades which don't justify buying it. N5 with Chroma Rom and bluspark Kernel @ -100mV undervolting, is pretty fast and very smooth, i hope the N6P can keep up with it even when using stock rom, i'm spoiled now
. Hope it get's available soon in Austria, will probaply get the Silver one, dunno if 32 or 64 GB yet, still 5GB left on my N5 32GB.

(pre)ordered my N6P 32Gb aluminum
since EVERYONE is keeping a close watch on the google store and be hitting F5 constantly, I figured it might be smarter to look for alternatives, e.g. third party phone shops! and, well, would u look at that: found one in the UK offering the N6P for 440 GBP (thats slightly less than 600€, so 50€ less than expected pricing here in Germany) since that phone shop only delivers to UK mainland addresses, i spontaneously opened up a borderlinx account, got my UK address, input my credit card details and BAM: ordered

soooo, if anyone is in a similar situation as me, heres the link: http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/phones/huawei-nexus-6p-32gb
only thing missing now: a nice protective case/sleeve! already eyeballing that Google "Nexus 6P Adopted Case" in Quartz: https://store.google.com/product/adopted_case_n6pLast edited: Oct 1, 2015 -
I'd probably get the Speck case myself if I bought a 6P. The black one. Or I'd wait for UAG to come out with a case.
-
Heh, might as well reap the benefits of being part of the EU.
Congratulations on your pre-order!
I think I'd wait for Spigen to release their line-up. They have one out for the 5X already, so the 6P's shouldn't be far behind. None of the big names should mess up and cover the laser module.jaybee83 likes this. -
yup, thats why i was concentrating on official phone cases from Google thus far, didnt want any of them third party cases yet covering up that nice laser auto focus

I got mine yesterday. It really is a wonderful device
excellent camera, solid battery life so far, lovely display (albeit falling behind Samsung's latest offerings) and feels great in the hand despite its size.

funny u should say that about the display, since its actually using the latest samsung amoled panel (most probably identical to the one in the note 5 cuz of identical size and resolution
)
in any case, ive still got to wait till next monday, thats when itll finally be available for (pre?)ordering at the google store here in germany. i tried ordering in the uk, but the stores i tried wouldnt either accept my credit card or my address, ah well...whats one more week right?
besides, this way i wont have to get myself an extra charger due to the UK one being incompatible here...

The oled display on the S6 is quite a bit more efficient than the one of the S5, So the S6+ must uses an new display also or it would affect the battery life, I would suspect.

Mind... Blown...
Seriously... I've never seen a phone in the Apple or the Android camp perform so well... It is extremely unfortunate that Google produced such an amazing device (it absolutely destroys my Nexus 6 in every way except for screen size... Comparing the speakers to Boomsound instead of the sound on the Nexus 6...wow)... If it was carrier sold, even at a 100 dollar premium, I would say shut up and take my money and even go fight the T-Mobile reps who would inevitably try to steer me to a Samsung. Being a JUMP customer kills it for me... I owe 443 on my 64GB N6... You really have to question Google and their strategies sometimes... They released the 6 on all carriers, it became a totally niche device and sold poorly.... They finally produce something amazing and I'm stuck with the 6...
And by the way Google... One of these days... Please fix the Google Chrome text duplication bug on forums... Blackberry and even Sidekick had typing down, it should be a simple fix yet you have messed up this very post twice! -
I trust Marques Brownlee more than just about any other reviewer. And after watching that review, I really, really want a Nexus 6P. I hope US Cellular will add it to the list of unlocked phones they activate on or before my birthday next May (there's no reason they couldn't; it's compatible with all of their bands).

Great phone, but do make sure to put it in a case and pamper it. iFixit ended up scoring the 6P's repairability as low as 2 out of 10 and the back of the phone appears soft enough for #bendgate to make a comeback.
Even if Jerry isn't holding back when applying force, he didn't do that when stress testing other phones either. Check out another video of his, perhaps of the similarly sized Note 5 for a stark contrast.Tinderbox (UK) likes this. -
weeeelll....new rumours have surfaced concerning the huawei mate 8 now, sporting insane specs ans price tag and a huawei event scheduled for this thursday, nov. 5th. if the rumoured specs are true then ill actually change camps and go mate 8 instead!
6 inch 2k screen, two sim slots (one usable for micro sd cards up to 128gb), fingerprint scanner, 4000+ mah battery, usb 3.0 (probably type c), kirin 950 cpu (about 25% faster than samsung's latest exynos), new mali-t t880 gpu, lpddr4 ram, 32gb/3gb for 520$, 64gb/4gb 610$, bezel less screen sides with curved glass (kinda like s6 edge) and very thin top/bottom bezels....
only downside id see compared to the nexus 6p would be software update speeds and number of custom roms. should improve on popularity though, considering this is huawei's new flagahip shortly after partnering up with google on the nexus
exciting days ahead! put in a preorder for a 6p once theyre active here in germany, then check out the huawei event on the 5th an decide if im gonna keep the preorder spot or cancel

Indeed. Huawei had a couple of interesting things to unveil during their November 5 event. First off, the G7 Plus, with its $330 price tag, should attract plenty of buyers looking for a mid-ranger with a premium touch. More intriguing to what I imagine is the majority of us here, however, is the official specs of the Kirin 950 and Huawei's confirmation that it will be at the heart of the upcoming Mate 8. With four Cortex-A72 cores at up to 2.53GHz, a Mali T880MP4 GPU, four Cortex-A53 cores along with an i5 co-processor for sensor activity and VoLTE, all on a 16nm flip transistor FinFET process, the new SoC from HiSilicon should end up both powerful and efficient. In fact, Huawei promised a leap of 40% in performance and 60% reduced power consumption. Their demo rig managed 83k in AnTuTu.
The one area I'm concerned the Mate 8 might not excel is its shooter's performance. Sure, OIS is on board, and the 16MP sensor should have a slightly larger-than-average pixel size. I'm just thinking that it might not be given the same priority as in a Samsung or LG flagship. I'm expecting a year-old IMX240 instead of a newer sensor breed. I'd also think they'd want to stay fashionable with a thin device more than they care about appeal to road warriors in need of a larger battery, although that aspect isn't super important in my book with next-gen fast charging in tow. An OLED display would have been deeply appreciated, but the Mate 7's IPS display manged to convince most of its onlookers. Looking forward to November 26!
Huawei aside, Xiaomi should still be on track to announce the Mi5 before the end of the year, which could end up being the very first S820 device. Samsung is rumoured to be hard at work with their Exynos M1 and camera innovations, along with interest in the Z5's sensor. The Galaxy S7 should help Samsung raise the bar yet again. Shame about TouchWiz and KNOX.
