You guys believe most of the leaks on the pixel 3 or you think it's a ruse for October? I've got the original pixel XL and LOVE it, but everywhere I go the forums say the 2 is better choice over the 3 if specs are true..
-
One thing I like about the standard Pixel 3 is that it's not a 6.3-inch behemoth.
What the hell happened to pocketable phones. I don't want a 6 inch phone. I want a 5inch phone that I can easily one-hand and put into my pocket without there being a very conspicuous bulge.
Is that your phone or are you just happy to see me.
It's my phone.Spartan@HIDevolution and killkenny1 like this. -
I believe the leaks. And the leaks are pushing me back toward Samsung. The camera on my 2XL is amazing, but I think the Galaxy flagships I've owned gave better overall experiences, especially on the hardware front.

I like the fact that the normal 3 does not have the craptastic notch.

That's why I'll never ever think of buying HTC as much as I like their UI. I don't want a phone which feels like I'm holding slippers next to my ear when I'm talking. I want a phone which looks and feels like a phone like the old days. -
Phoenix, the new HTC mid ranger is a step in the right direction. Looks like a beautiful first generation pixel. The blue and lavender colors are very pleasing and it's just the right size IMO. The size of the normal pixel/iPhone (non plus).

They'll probably stop making smartphones soon as they keep on losing money, leaving you high and dry with no software updates and no warranty.

Buying a new phone today is silly. New models are very similar to their predecessors (e.g. Galaxy S9 vs S8 or the iPhone 8 v 7) and it makes very little sense to upgrade. If you're moving from a significantly older handset (3 years+), you'll get far better value for money if you buy a refurbished last gen phone. My brother managed to get a brand new Galaxy S8 for £312. At launch, that same phone cost £630.Spartan@HIDevolution, Vasudev and hmscott like this. -

Sad but true...
When I was searching for a new phone, there was pretty much nil choice for a small smartphone with all bells and whistles...
I don't get it, is there really no market for small phones?!? I' m pretty sure we both are not the only to complain about this issue... -

Yes I remember back in the old days, when Nokia was king, every new release of a Nokia phone made me feel like a kid in christmas, eery new phone had so much new features that really got you excited. now it's more of the same, more resolution for the screen faster processor, like you're gonna spend all your time benchmarking the freakin' phone, lesser batter life, and a slightly upgraded camera mostly in software optimizations. So boring and it's really expensive to keep up with the phones. I mean look at the Note 9 256GB! It costs $1400 USD for God's sake! I can buy a decent laptop for that money! -
I agree Phoenix. That being said, I bought two new iPhone 8s because my carrier was offering us an awesome deal because of my wifes employer. We get kick ass perks from them so we decided to upgrade from the 6s to them. It was worth it, since the speed, and screen are so much better.

You're not the literally only person, but people who like small smartphones are a small-but-vocal minority (like Americans who like manual-transmission cars, people who want swappable batteries in their phones, etc). Tiny-but-premium phones make internet forum users happy but they rarely help companies turn a profit.
That said, the Xperia XZ2 Compact is 135mm tall (5.3") and 65mm wide (2.6"). That's almost exactly the dimensions of the iPhone 6. And speaking of Apple, there's rumors of an iPhone SE2 on the way.
https://www.sonymobile.com/us/products/phones/xperia-xz2-compact/ -
Yes, but the SE2 will be the size of the iPhone 6s. Nothing like the original SE. The difference between the iPhone and the SE model now will be the fact they use LCD to keep the price down, nothing to do with the size of the device. I just went ahead and bought the 8 for the superior fingerprint scanner compared to FARCE ID!

Didn't say I was the only person.
Xperia XZ2 doesn't have wireless charging, or xxLED screen. And iPhone SE2 is... well... Apple. Will it come with a headphone jack?
I would love to see a high end small form factor, and the only option is Samsung GS8 (yuck, Samsung) and Apple... Not many choices...Vasudev likes this. -
So what's the sweet spot? 5.1" or 5.5" Infinity screen or similar?
I like the size of iphone 8 but I hate iOS11. -
What do you hate about it?
-
iPhone 7 gets switched off randomly even on 80% and upon turning it on, I see 3% battery. On iOS 12 beta, I had this only once on beta 10. Battery health is 94%. On standby it can last upto 5 days with light Youtube streaming. On constant usage it can last only a day and a half.
-
I think that is a hardware issue. NONE of my phones on IOS 11 did that.
-
Not a hardware issue, I checked its telemetry logs and it states Phone Shutdown due to low battery.
Even if it was a hardware issue, at least I'd get the message phone was shutdown abruptly so peak capability feature is now enabled.Last edited: Sep 10, 2018 -
There is no universal sweet-spot. What you find comfortable is largely dependent on hand size, ergonomics, surface, and pocket size. The benchmark used to be reaching the entire screen with your thumb comfortably during one-handed usage. Nowadays I see lots of people with small hands getting the largest iPhones despite the unwieldyness. Comfortable screen size is highly subjective and always a compromise.Vasudev likes this.

Please be aware that the Pixel 3 does NOT support wireless quick-charging on any wireless charger besides Google's own $80 wireless charger. It has 5W Qi charging (slow-charging on any Qi charger), but if you want to charge at 10W, that's not through Qi, but instead a proprietary system available solely via their own expensive first-party charger.

Between the poorly-implemented notch on the XL, the mandatory gesture-navigation (unlike the Pixel 2, you can't turn it off and revert to traditional three-button navigation), and this, I'm really frustrated with the Pixel line right now. It feels like they're actively pushing me back toward Samsung whenever I buy a new phone.Vasudev and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
Be aware that despite being a stock experience, there are an abundance of reported issues with Google's flag ship phone which for what you pay shouldn't be occurring at such a high rate: https://www.androidpolice.com/2018/11/05/unofficial-google-pixel-3-pixel-3-xl-bug-issue-tracker/

Candidly, I have not found my Pixel 2XL to be any more or less buggy than the Galaxy S7 Edge that preceded it. I think the stereotype that "vanilla Android devices are smooth and bug-free, and OEM-skinned Android devices are laggy and buggy," is inaccurate in both fronts nowadays.Spartan@HIDevolution and killkenny1 like this.

@Mitlov I'm pulling the trigger on P2Xl 128GB since P2 isn't in stock and P2 is expensive than P2Xl and thanks to P3, both P2Xl and 3 are priced exactly on same storage capacity and only difference is Warranty.
Anyway I'll wait for price to drop on P2XL otherwise I'm buying it. P2 and P2XL form factor are similar.
