When Razer bought Nextbit, the question of whether or not the gaming hardware company would be releasing a phone quickly changed from “if” to “when.” And now, the company seems to be gearing up for an announcement on November 1st, if the teaser posted to Twitter by the Razer account, which shows a man holding what appears to be a smartphone-shaped device in his hands, is anything to go by ( first spotted by 9to5Google).

Given that it’s a Razer device, it’s probable that the company’s smartphone will share a similar focus on gaming, and given the Nextbit acquisition, it may feature some of that company’s cloud-based infrastructure, too. And if the tease from Razer CEO Min-Liang Tanis anything to go by, the familiar acid-green Razer snake logo will be making an appearance, too.

For me, Razer gives a feeling a being inside GTA V where Micheal teams up with Lester to blow up a futuristic mobile device. I hope Razer test their batteries correctly or simply pay Samsung to make S8 w/ Razer logo, atleast the device will be safe than being a throttle mobile device. Open up chrome and you get heavy throttling!!!Starlight5 and Dr. AMK like this.

interesting, lets hope razor won't mess up!

If it's anything like their laptops it's liable to burn off the tips of your bits in two shakes of a lambs tail. Keep that out of my pocket!

It'd wise to carry it in container if it decides to overheat and melt the entire phone like chocolate.SuperContra and Dr. AMK like this.

I wonder about the support if Razor deems it a failure?

Its android, right?
Even S7 and above comes with Game booster. I don't know if any games on android or iOS will ever hit 120Hz Vsync, that was a bad move, i mean w/o GSYNC its hard to get rid of stuttering unless Razer has implemented Adaptive screen refresh rates.Dr. AMK likes this. -
The 120Hz maximum refresh rate is just a headline-grabber. When powered by a Snapdragon 835, modern mobile games aren't hitting a rock-solid 60 fps, just waiting for a faster display to break past. They have implemented an adaptive screen refresh rate, however. The one usage area where I can see that being useful is DaydreamVR... which the phone doesn't support. When playing touch-screen games, who cares about a tad less latency?
There's also no mention of additional measures taken to make sure the SoC never throttles. No ergonomic design. No clip-on controllers akin to the Switch. No deal with Nvidia to make a Shield phone, Tegra onboard, and truly be different. More RAM than the OS will ever use. No bragging about camera specs either, and those modules look tiny. No commitment to updates (other than Oreo in Q1). No headphone jack to use those analogue Razer headphones you own and love. A battery of its capacity can be found in the HTC U11+, which I'm sure will make a far better daily-driver.
One point of interest is audio – the lack of an audio jack withheld.
Sounds like the Razer Phone won't need a digital audio adapter to output to a 3.5mm device, unlike the new Pixels.Last edited: Nov 2, 2017Vasudev likes this. -
no real advantage to getting this phone for mobile gaming?

Use it for underwater gaming at QHD res w/o throttling.
@Papusan Will your kids buy it for on the go QHD gaming at 120Hz RSYNC UltraMotion??? -
what networks will it run on, assuming the major carriers will allow it?

Most likely they follow same frq. bands as Apple does.

how much pita will it be to have VZW,AT&T, etc do the prep work to have it work on their network?

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Network compatibility isn't based on the carrier, but more of what LTE/radio chips will be in the Razer. I have a feeling it might exclude the LTE radios for Sprint and Verizon as those cost more than the normal other LTE bands.Vasudev likes this. -

And this is why I moved away from Verizon Wireless. Their irongrip of locking down phone firmwares and overall not alot of Android phones make it to Verizon or is totally incompatible wasn't worth the "nationwide" coverage. Also VZW ruins the Nexus and Pixel phones by adding their own crappy software on it. Back on T-Mobile now for a year and it's been great with my OnePlus 3T.Starlight5 and Vasudev like this. -
Is it possible to uninstall Verizon crap software on Pixel phones?
I am looking forward to see what happens with this Razer phone, at least it is something a little different. -
can't Pixel phones be bootloader unlocked and rooted?

Yes but I'm in the belief that bloatware shouldn't be preloaded on any phones to begin with. "Normal" users shouldn't have to root their phones or flash custom roms to get rid of bloatware. I understand that it is mostly power users buying the Pixel/Nexus lines of phones but still. When I bought my Nexus 4 from Google directly, I didn't need 3rd party launchers or a custom ROM, the Google provided ones were more than sufficient.Vasudev likes this. -
It is interesting seeing Razer and Red trying to get into the Smartphone business. Red might have a niche with their camera technology, but I dont know how Razer will compete since current phones run all mobile games just fine.
