I don't really leave the house much so the camera isn't as important to me but the Note 5 holds its own

call me blind, but they both seem very similar and provide superb image quality for a phone camera.Ethrem likes this. -
Exactly my point. I have an unlocked and rooted phone with a larger screen plus the S-Pen and it still has an incredibly fast processor so the need to upgrade isn't really there. Why would I trade my phone in for a locked down inferior version with a faster processor and Marshmallow and a marginally better camera?Spartan@HIDevolution likes this.

I don't think anyone at Samsung considered Note 5 owners as as the target market for the Galaxy S7. The Note 5 was unveiled only six months ago! Of course the S7 isn't a big upgrade over the Note 5.
-
I can tell you that the S7 Edge is NOT inferior to the Note 5. If anything, the Edge is superior to the Note 5. I tried both and it's not even close. I went with the S7 Edge.
-
S7 Edge wouldn't be inferior if Samsung didn't encrypt the bootloader. T-Mobile has always had locked but not encrypted bootloaders unlike AT&T and Verizon. microSD alone could have swayed me if it wasn't for the 350 apps I own. If I can't use Titanium Backup, the phone is worthless for my purposes. Google needs to implement an iCloud type backup that actually backs up app data as well if they are going to kill root.

After owning the S6 edge+ 64 GB and realizing how much of a gimmick the edge is, I used it the first day and never felt tempted to use it again. Then comes the accidental edge swipe which are very annoying. Never buying a phone with an edge screen anymore. Just makes it harder to find screen protectors. It's only nice for a few days then it gets old. -
Yeah I'm not keen on the edge screen but the screen size is the smallest I'll go. I really want another 6" like the Nexus 6.

I just manually checked for updates on my S7 and I got a notification that there is an update that includes security enhancements..... it was around 182 MB or 188 MB can't remember
It also said that these updates may include bug fixes but didn't mention any changelog about them.
My OS now is:
6.0.1
Baseband Version: G930FXXU1APD1
Build Number: MMB29K.G930FXXU1APD1
Security Software Version:
MDF v2.0 Release 6
VPN v1.4 Release 6.1
Android Security Patch Level April 2, 2016 -
I love that they prominently put "Android security patch level" prominently in the settings. Seems to show an intent to keep that updated.
I played around with a Galaxy S7 at Best Buy today. Without question, it will be my next phone.
(1) Galaxy S7 is a "just the right size for me" size, like my Moto X. 5.7" or 6.0" feels too big for my relatively-small hands, but 4.7" like my old GS3 and the iPhone 6S just doesn't give quite enough screen real estate.
(2) Dear lawd that screen is gorgeous. Really truly unbelievable.
(3) Some reviewers have complained that the screen is oversensitive to touch, but I thought it was just right.
(4) The camera performance (both in speed and quality) is just plain remarkable. And camera performance is a big deal to me, since I primarily rely on smartphones to take pictures of my kids.
(5) Gear VR blew my mind. The 3D push of 2010-2012ish always felt a bit gimmicky to me, but Gear VR felt like the future. I know that sounds silly to say, and I was trying to be cynical, but I really just felt like a kid on Christmas morning. I want one.hmscott and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
Indeed, Gear VR can be a big deal if you're enthusiastic about VR, as it's the most polished of the inexpensive solutions. It even comes bundled for free from many retailers. HTC Vive and Oculus Rift will of course deliver a more immersive experience, with more content to choose from, but they're both expensive, 1st wave VR products. Second iterations may be worthwhile waiting for, as the platform will have matured more and current irks should be ironed out. The Gear VR is good enough to hold you over.

I'm definitely not ready to drop a couple grand on a high-end desktop and high-end VR headset, but if I can get a good taste of VR for $100 or so on top of a phone I like anyway, that's pretty darned cool. Just standing in the middle of a big box store but seeing sharks swim all around me as I looked around...let's just say that in this case it was jaw-dropping in the literal, not figurative, sense. I realized after a minute that my mouth was literally agape.hmscott, Convel and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

That's because I disturbed their sucking milk session. The ginger cat is their mother and she was feeding them again even though they are old. She misses being a mommy again and I destroyed their session. -

Still impressed by the S7's camera, especially when it comes to capturing the details of a cast shadow, but I'm becoming more aware of its banding/sharpening artifacts. Not that it matters if you don't do heavy cropping.
