I have found my new "phone". I almost bought the first gen about a month ago, but after hearing of a new version with the features I wanted, I decided to wait. Glad I did. This thing is BONKERS!
Merry Christmas to me. Thanks wifey, you are getting one too!
Surface Duo 2 – Dual-Screen Mobile Productivity – Microsoft Surface

It's an interesting brew indeed. But I'd wait ...for the sale figures forcing a price drop towards $400, like the MK1
-
Not gonna happen with version 2. Price will drop but not near 400 bucks.
-
Ha ha, Maybe. I have a few here now. But I was waiting for this to be released. Just waiting for it to level off for sales rush, and then I am pulling the trigger on it. It's the ideal device for my personal needs. Dual screens in the jeep is a boon for travel. Then, having a plan open and making materials lists in onenote on the second screen, etc. It's just the most functional device for my lines of work and play.

Looks like one should wait for a Duo 3 ...or 4.

^^^ Mk1 was out of the question, at any price. The Mk2, step forward but not there yet. Still, a fascinating device I'd like to grope fondle explore, but 1st needs a substantial price cut + some proof of MS willingness to provide support & updates.

The best option would be probably to make it a three screen device - one on outside for a "standard smartphone use, and two inside for the handheld/multitasking experience.
However, it will probably drive the price even further. -
if the second iteration is not much better, what would the mythical NEO be like?

Anyone still wanting to part with $1500, watch this 1st...

The reviews I read/watched said it was much better but with some fatal flaws. The touch issues also seemed to have carried forward from the first which doesn't help matters.
I remain interested in the duo 4...6730b likes this. -
As the tread title say. Wow.... Just wow
I want *to want* a Surface Duo 2, but Microsoft isn't making it easy windowscentral.com
The Microsoft Surface Duo 2 has received another round of mixed reviews. Can Microsoft ever get it right?
Some say, the third time may be the charm. But I doubt it. Its Microsoft we here talk about.

Microsoft Surface Duo 2 is one big foldable fail — here's why tomsguide.com | Nov 14, 2021
Two 5.3-inch screens don't add up to one big workspace on this quasi-foldable phone...
When you review products, right away you begin to recognize that not everything that comes across your desk is going to be built with your specific needs in mind. So when assessing a device like the Surface Duo 2, you have to set aside your own biases and focus on whether the product you're looking at addresses the demands of its target audience. In that regard, it's difficult to see the Surface Duo 2 as anything but a well-intentioned failure.
Why failing time after time exactly as they do with their newest Windows OS? It's in their blood? @Mr. Fox @jclausius -
The Redmond Reprobates clearly seem to have an agenda that most of us are unable to relate to. It is like they are speaking a foreign language that I do not understand. On top of that, I don't want to understand and it doesn't interest me. If they want me to care, then they need to speak my language and communicate on my terms. I am not interested in communicating on their terms, or in their language. Otherwise, it's a hard pass for me. Thanks, but no thanks... I have no need for the trash they are peddling.

I have no idea who's in the market for such a device. If I want a tablet sized device, I'll buy a tablet. I don't want a phone sized item that unfolds into a tablet unless the video display is one continual layout, and it appears there's a gap in that it's two displays with some bevel or whatever in between the two displays. Very odd design decisions.

Getting rightfully slaughtered in this french review :O)
"delirious 1599 euros price" "catastrophic bugs" etc lol

I recall years back, I used Windows Phones since the early Nokias. I even bought a 950XL when Microsoft got rights to the Lumia name, and loved that thing. Then it went away as rumors of a "Surface Phone" were swirling, Microsoft dropped support, and Windows Phone OS is no more. It was simple, effective, and I wish they'd have kept it up. My old 950XL nowadays won't even run most apps I did have as the apps are flagged as in need of an update, but it can't update because the store ecosystem is gutted.
... Then to see this as the "answer." Running Google-OS and farting its way through? Kinda a bummer! -
Totally agree. Windows Phone OS running on Nokia was excellent. Much better than any Android or crApple iOS garbage, including their top dog flagship models. It was super-stupid that the Redmond Reprobates dropped support for it. They seem to be great at avoiding their successes and repeating their failures. The more they strive to become more like crApple, the more they suck. Their fatal error is the assumption that PC users like Macs. There are certainly some that do, but most loathe everything about crApple. Either the idiots at Micro$lop assume most PC users like what they like, or they are just sadistic bastards that intentionally do stupid things to Windows to make their customers hate them more.
