If a factory reset brings it back that means pressing power and holding volume up and down to enter safe mode should work as that normally has a fixed wallpaper, so at least that way you can keep your data.

Yes. Even easier if you can get root.
However most OEM's now stop you unlocking the bootloader to do that.

Won't be going to android then. Apple isn't the be all end all in everything but I am pretty sure that if I put a wallpaper on my iphone or ipad, it's not going to brick.Vasudev likes this.

The issue is broken color profile metadata of the picture since A10 doesn't convert non-sRGB to somewhat sRGB or DCI-P3 or just basic RGB profile. It seems ios 13.4 onwards defaults to DCI-P3 profile.
