I don't care about android or ios, but if these guys could do the same sort of hardware for a real phone (yeah; Win10 Mobile), this would shake things up pretty fast for MS.
I thought I was reading about an apple phone at first (innovation this, 21 patents awarded that...), but the world hasn't seen this much hardware for so little cost (take into consideration that 17% tax is added to those prices) since... ever. And never from the fruity company.
Does anyone else agree that every point they hit is spot on? Imagine, actually making a device better for the end user and not charging them their first born and a leg too.![]()
With a few tweaks and additions, this would be the hardware to run MS' vision of what a phone should be (4GB RAM + 128GB non-EMMc storage) especially when used with Continuum.
Does anyone know of anything remotely similar happening for the Windows Mobile side?
Something like an Wi-5?![]()

The title is Xiaomi Mi5 but the text is all about Windows Phone. I'm confused.
Anyway, the only new hardware on the Windows Phone side unveiled this week was the HP Elite X3, a business-class device that plays up Windows 10 Continuum with a laptop-like accessory and a desktop-oriented docking station.

Sorry, didn't mean to confuse. First sentence says it all.
Just seems like great hardware (especially for the $$$).
I have seen the HP offering. Just not in the same league.
(Who needs a notebook to connect their phone to)??? -
Xiaomi has collaborated with Microsoft in the past – the Mi 4 and Mi Pad 2 have both MIUI and Windows 10 ROMs to choose from. A Mi 5 or Mi 5 Plus running the OS has been rumoured and is not beyond the realm of possibilities.

I haven't seen anything (yet) for a mobile phone based on Xiaomi running Win10.
Or any other high end hardware manufacturer for that matter.
Anyone else?
(Bump). -
It's hard to predict when or if a current flagship will get an official Windows 10 ROM or variant. Fourteen months passed from release to ROM availability for the Mi 4, though it's worth noting how Microsoft's and Xiaomi's collaboration is new-found. Even if partners might be more interested in Microsoft's platform nowadays, I reckon many are on the fence of investing given Windows' dissapointing market share. I think many are looking forward to a true Windows 10 flagship like you are, but patience is still needed. I'd take current rumours with a grain of salt and then some until we see leaks.
Since you seem to be more interested in Windows 10 running on decent hardware than the Mi 5 in particular, I recommend requesting a thread rename to something that would attract fellow enthusiasts of your favourite mobile platform.Last edited: Feb 28, 2016tilleroftheearth likes this. -

I found the above today, but depending on which article you read about the HTC 10, it will or it will not be available with Windows 10. (the search goes on). -
Quality down to the bone, huh?
That's fricking hilarious, but hey, at least Xiaomi didn't ruin the premium feel of metal by covering it with painted plastic like a certain other manufacturer. I hope he tests the Pro version later on as it would be interesting to see if the tougher ceramic back to a small degree is able is able to support the weak frame of this phone.
If anyone is interested to know how the Mi 5 launch has gone so far, the short answer is bad. Even with Foxconn working overtime in advance to ensure adequate supply, the March 1 launch can only be described as a flash sale. Moreover, only the lower-end, white 32GB model actually shipped out to customers in March; those who didn't get lucky or ordered a different model simply had to wait a whole lot longer, with orders of the Pro yet to be fulfilled (ETA: April 30). Their next flagship, the Xiaomi Max, will reportedly launch in May.
I wish I didn't need a new phone so badly. The Xperia X Premium could possibly be a Sony phone done right...tilleroftheearth likes this. -
Terrible phone for everyone who intentionally takes a knife to their phone, then sets it on fire, then forcibly bends it in half. Consumers who intentionally do those things (especially one after another) should steer clear.
Seriously, someone did the exact same thing to the Nexus 6P, and lo and behold, it bent too. Yet I haven't heard a flood of people who use the Nexus 6P in a normal manner suffering bent phones.
Edit: it was the exact same guy!

Agreed that it's a moot point to those of us who aren't stupid with tech. The #1 none-abusive scenario this applies to is putting it in the back pocket of skinny jeans, then forgetting about it when sitting down. A few photos circulated after unintentional bending of iPhone 6 Plus phones, but yes, that was a massively popular phone sold to a very broad demographic. Smartphones are engineering marvels, and yes, I do enjoy seeing a phone being bend-resistant, as it gives off that over-engineered vibe, but I don't consciously factor it in when making a purchase since it's irrelevant to my usage.
Entertainment factor aside, JerryRigEverything does highlight scratch resistance in a meaningful way. If a tool or knife with a certain degree of hardness can scratch a surface, so can small particles of the same hardness degree in your pocket. How it performs can make you reconsider a case and/or screen protector. I absolutely hate scratches while generally preferring the naked feel of a device. The camera lens cover being plastic on the Xperia Z5 Premium and BlackBerry Priv isn't a discovery I'd be happy to find out after having purchased either. The Mi 5's performance in this category is reassuring. Credit where credit's due. -
The comment section would be hilarious if people start doing a lot of bend videos with Nokias somehow.

Xiaomi greatly reduces costs to themselves by not spending much on marketing, not having physical stores, selling direct to consumers online, and purposefully making less products than there is demand for them so that they can sell them all at the same speed they make them. And to top it all off, Xiaomi is losing money on their phone selling business.
No, that is just the way that Xiaomi does things. I think it is stupid, and it is annoying as you can almost never buy anything off of their website, but that is their official strategy and how they release everything. -
The prices are a lot better than what they were doing before. What needs to be pushed is the Mediatek GPUs, if those could ever compete, then those would be the phones to beat! Their CPUs have come a long way and are excellent, they just have cruddy GPUs.
The only other worry is that if they do not have full support ready in the western world, then that puts me off greatly. -

Though it's probably for naught, a quick sign would be appreciated!
